To meet the changing needs of women in central florida, hospital administrators serving were going to leave the story and take you to jacksonville, where a big News Conference is l foing now, l foing breaking following many, many areas of our community, we had at times, 425 people searching on a daily basis during this time. We were looking for lonzie. 38 agencies represented from all over the southeast, really. That came to help us. To do that. We scaled back that large scale search, on august 2nd. Of last year. But i want to make the point today that our Investigative Team continued to work this case. And have worked it for the last 142 days, nonstop. We are here today to tell you that we strongly believe that we have found the remains of Lonzie Barton in a wooded area nearby here. With that, im going to turn it over for Additional Details to chief tom hackney. Tom. Thanks. You know, sheriff williams outlined our investigative efforts have been ongoing since day one that i stood up and and asked for the publics help. Many a sleepless nights have gone on from the investigators in the case to the state attorneys involved with this. To members of the public, and our goal from the beginning, was to find lonzie. Unfortunately, it turned pretty obvious pretty quickly that that wasnt going to happen with him being alived. But that didnt stop our efforts. And didnt stop the interest of the public. It is a very sad day that we find these remains that we believe to be lonzies. But its the first step in justice, i mentioned several times, that that little boy didnt need to be discarded like a piece of trash, and today, we are able to take what we believe to be him, from being disposed just like that, in the hopes in somewhere thats peaceful, and not somewhere that is basically a garbage heap and thats just wrong. It is this case isnt over. You know, weve got a lot of steps, theres a lot of legalities, le gal tis about how we got legalities about how we got out here. We have worked with ruben ebron and his attorneys every step of the way and again, specifics, as we discussed this, many times, ive not been able to give you specifics. And the lack of my specificity is because i dont want to jeopardize the judicial process of this case. Justice is sometimes slow. And sometimes piece by piece. And today is just another piece of the justice that we have. Finding the bodies of very, very large piece of that, this community, i can tell you, from comments that i have received, this family, this family of this community, is really lonzies family. And they love him. The Investigative Team, i can tell you, they take it with them to bed every night. To days todays action rs todays recoverys and what led us here is a piece of that justice. I can certainly let you know that our erts efforts arent through, today is not the end, today is another step. Its most important that this community is aware that the efforts, the investigative efforts, the decisions that were made in this case, by the Sheriffs Office and working with the state attorneys office, were the goal of taking that child from places unknown today to a specific place, and from that specific place, to a location of peace. That our efforts will still thank you. You know, we have a great, really, working relationship here in northeast with the state, local and federal partners and we have a great daytoday working relationship with our state attorney, who hooz been a big has been a thank you, sheriff. Good afternoon, and can thank you for being here. And thank you for being here. And the Justice Coalition thank you for being around to help us represent our victims. Working with Law Enforcement is critical and thats why this case illustrates it better than possibly any other case that weve dealt with lately. If you cannot work with the Law Enforcement, you cannot attempt to seek justice as it should be on a case by case basis, so thats been the parameters of this case. Working with Law Enforcement from the beginning, working to paramount importance to us, and as tom just said, this is one piece in an ongoing quest for justice youve been listening to a live thuz conference from News Conference of the remains believed to be Lonzie Barton who disappeared last summer. Ruben ebron is the key suspect in this disappearance, there were reports earlier that he had taken a plea deal in this case. And that led to the finding of the remain, but now it appears that that plea deal is off the table. Well stay on top of this. Lonzie bartons remains have been found. A sad piece of the story, but at least as one person said today, the family and the entire community now, knows that he can rest in peace, as they continue to piece youre watching channel 9 Eyewitness News at 4 00 with greg warmoth, Vanessa Echols and chief meteorologist tom terry ft new this hour, an expensive weekend for more than a dozen orlando Business Owners who say their shops were vandalized.
