In nashua, jim morelli, fox 25 news. A firefighter arrested for what allegedly happened outside of a local taco shop. Hes now facing Assault Charges tonight. Our ted daniel live in brookline now. Ted police say the whole thing started inside that restaurant. Reporter weve all been in this situation, blair. Youre in line waiting for food the person in front of you is taking a long time and youre in a rush. Police say thats what led this 37yearold firefighter to berate and beat the homeless man and it all happened right across the street on the sidewalk in front of a taco shop. A polite request to speed up man to challenge him to a fight outside. Thats the story brookline firefighter joe ward gave police when they arrested him. We tried to confirm wards version of events on our own. We got no answer at his apartment door in dorchester. And no comment from the apartment where a neighbor directed us to right below it. Two sides to a story. Reporter ward doesnt have to face us butly have to face a judge for what happened outside the taco shop on harvard street late sunday night. Brookline police say ward severely beat a homeless man because the man didnt order his burrito fast enough. Your reaction may be similar to the ones we heard. I think its really disheartening to hear that could go on in our own backyard to hear that a person of authority beating up a homeless person its a little disconcerting. Reporter according to Police Report ward deberated the homeless man inside the restaurant and attacked him outside. One witness says ward pushed, punched and kicked the victim and then threw food and a glass bottle at the man while he was on the ground. Another witness says ward straddled him and threw five to seven punches with both hands until a girl started yelling at him. Thats absolutely horrendous. I cant believe someone would treat someone that way. Reporter the Town Administrator provide fox 25 with this statement. The town is aware of firefighter wards arrest he has been placed on administrative leave immediately pending investigation. The town will not be making any further sames at this time. Investigators say hutchinson was filled by her roommate who took his own life this week inside a 2006bury hotel. Were certainly looking tewkesbury hotel. Tonight the search is on for a suspect in a violent gas station robbery in bedford. Police tell fox 25 that suspect walked in wearing a mask and holding a knife. There was a scuffle between the clerk and the suspect and the clerk was cut in the hand. Reporter police say the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous. If you know anything about this call police. A woman is recovering after she was thrown from other horse in topfield. Skyfox was over the scene this afternoon. That woman had to be flown to the hospital. Fire Officials Say she appears to have broken both her legs. Reporter it happened just before 3 00 this afternoon on packard street in brockton. Brocktons mayor tells us people in two cars were shooting at each other. One man was shot twice and taken to an area hospital. The thing i can tell you is the victim is wellknown to police and extremely uncooperative. Reporter neighbors told us they are fed up innocent people at the corner store were so scared they quickly walked away to seek shelter. My main concern is the safety of the residents that are not involved in this. Folks around here want these criminals to handle their business elsewhere. The victim here is at a local hospital where he is expected to survive. In the meantime, police tell us they have a good idea of who this suspect is and they want to get him off of the streets before an innocent person gets hurt. Officials are investigating after a revere man died following a violent struggle with police. Police say that they found that 38yearold man bleeding and combative sunday night after he broke into an apartment building. Were told that man fought against offers and was tasered with no apparent effect. He restrained and taken to a hospital where he later died. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of his death. Some big changes are coming to the way Auburn Housing Authority operates. Following the deathoff a 2yearold foster child. She was living in subsidized housing with her foster mother at the time of her death. Well, now the Housing Authority says it wants better communication with d. C. F. Because there were six children in her home. The chairman of the authority tells the telegram its also installing cameras in its properties and changing the way units are inspected. They have also set up a tip line for tenants. They dont have to leave their names. No one has been charged in the death. Tonight police are investigating allegations that a registered sex offender approached a young girl in a bookstore. That girls father called offers after he claims the suspect was checking his daughter out. Tonight fox 25s Kathryn Burcham spoke with that sex offender in manchester, New Hampshire. Reporter Manchester Police here tell me that this case remains under investigation by their detectives but so far they havent charged that man James Sorensen with any crime. Sorensen tells me he wasnt the reporter this man is speaking out about a violation of his daughters safety. I was glad i made the call. The father who we are hiding to protect his daughters idea he said James Sorensen approached his 6yearold in the Childrens Book section. Sorensen served time for Sexual Assault on a child under 13. I hate to he checked her up and down with her eyes theres no other way to explain it. Reporter the father claims sorensen then asked his daughter how old she was and who he was with. He at one point asked me oh, youre here with the pretty girl. I said yes, i am. That led him to call the police. He admitted that he had checked out the young girl. Sorensen called her a pretty little girl but said he would never do anything he didnt want to go back to jail. At sorensens nashua home tonight he denied the allegations on. He told me he never approached the little girl was just making conversation with her father. The girls father told us he just wants all parents to be reminuted to always keep a close eye on their children. Listen to your gut if you feel theres a danger around your kids then call the police. Sorensen told me he also felt the daughters attitude toward him was uncalled for and that the publicity surrounding this incident has cost him his job. A School Community mourning the sudden loss of a student athlete. Wellesley was standing in line for a drill at field hockey practice in dedham on friday when she suddenly collapsed. Officials say dunn suffered a massive brain bleed but had no preexisting medical conditions. Her brother says the family is grieving but theyre comforted by the fact she died doing something she loved. Im very happy that she went out in such a happy place southerned by people she loved in a place she loved doing something that she did love. Reporter the headmaster says that grief counsellors will be at that school tomorrow. Funeral services will be held on wednesday and thursday. Two hikers are safe after getting stuck from on Mount Washington.
