Taking a look at the other top stories this morning. A man who was critically injured when he was tased by Chicago Police officers, has been charged. Dominique franklin is charged with retail theft and resisting arrest. Police say officers chased franklin after he stole vodka from the walgreens at north and wells yesterday morning. An officer used a taser, which caused franklin to hit his head on a light pole. Hes now in critical, but stable condition. A 76yearold woman was shot while driving on the southwest side. The woman was stopped at a stop sign at 40th and artesian yesterday evening, when she was hit by a bullet in the shoulder. She drove for about two miles, before calling 911. The woman was treated and released from the hospital. Former state representative Keith Farnham is now forbidden from using his own patio. The democrat from elgin is awaiting trial for trading child pornography. And hes under home confinement. But farnhams condo and a neighbors condo share a common area the area where farnhams patio is. And the neighbor has a small child. So a federal judge says farnham cant use the patio because it could put the child in danger. A Village Trustees meeting was met with a protest on police layoffs. That happened in southwest suburban lyons last night where one third of the police force was laid off. Lyons now has 16 officers, instead of 23. Town Officials Say the cuts are necessary for budget reasons. Chicago Police Believe they have solved a 5yearold murder case. And their suspect made it easier for them to catch him. 47yearold rene valentinmatos was arrested in minnesota. Now he is back in chicago to face trial for raping and murdering 12yearold jehmeshia conner in 2009. Originally, investigators runaway. Until her body was found in an alley in englewood two weeks later. But then, in 2011, a woman was raped and murdered in pilsen. And police say dna was found on her body. The same dna was found on jahmeshias body. Now valentin jahmeshia is charged with both murders. For jahmeshias mother, there is relief and closure. I always felt in my heart that someone took her. No one wanted to believe me i was trying to tell my story. The suspect and victim may have known each other through church. She was a parishioner, while he did odd jobs for the church. Jahmeshia went to church the night she disappeared. A botched murder case that became known as the dixmoor five, is being reopened. Five men spent 19 years in prison for killing a 14year old, until new evidence cleared them all. Now sheriff tom dart and the Dixmoor Police chief are reactivating the cold case. Dart says dna evidence points to a new suspect. But at the moment, authorities arent ready to charge him. Cateresa matthews disappeared on her way home from her grandmothers house in 1991. Her body turned up in a field near i57. Chicagos red light cameras caught the mayors own motorcade breaking the law. Theyve racked up 17 tickets for running red lights and three warnings for speeding since 2012. The mayor says his drivers are being corrected. Hospitals in illinois, even ones that are closed, are required by law to preserve medical records for at least ten years as a matter of consumer protection. The ferry has been underwater for three weeks now. Divers recovered 269bodies, but 35 others are still missing. 15 crew members, including the captain, were arrested for negligence. Police in tampa, florida, say four deaths in a house fire appear to part of a murder suicide. The house belonged to former tennis pro james blake. And the family had been renting the mansion from him. Police found the bodies of tech Company Executive Darrin Campbell and his wife and two children. Blake wasnt at the house. Investigators say the fire was set intentionally, and fireworks were placed throughout the house to accelerate it. President obama visited Central Arkansas to tour the areas affected by last months tornadoes and severe storms. He viewed the damage from marine one yesterday, then walked through a hard hit subdivision near little rock. 16 people were killed in arkansas, including a baby. At least 35 people were killed from rural system throughout the south and midwest. President obama declared arkansas a major disaster area, and is providing federal aid to help them recover. Security cameras at a church in mississippi were rolling when a tornado from that same system swept over a playground. Heavy wind and rain sent debris flying past the camera. Only a few pieces of playground equipment were left standing. The church also sustained significant damage. But, its still being used as a place to feed people from the community who lost their homes. The republicancontrolled house voted to hold a former i rs official in contempt for refusing to answer questions about the agencys targeting of conservative groups. Lois lerner was the head of the irs department accused of giving extra scrutiny to tea party and other groups seeking tax exempt status. Lerner took the fifth amendment when she appeared before a House Oversight Committee Last may. Republicans argue she waived her fifth amendment rights by first asserting her innocence. Wednesdays vote to hold her in contempt fell almost entirely along party lines. The california Highway Patrol usually gets its man. Dogs are another story. Traffic came to a standstill on a freeway in sacramento when a stray dog got on the roadway. It evaded officers chasing it and got away again after police used their cruisers to corner it.
