Jimmy do you remember any of the characters that you i remember that one was a a cheerleader that couldnt spell what she was cheering. [ light laughter ] so i was like, be aggressive, and then, and then there was another one that was actually pretty nuts that was a baby sitter who is possessed. [ light laughter ] so as shes reading books to the kids, shes like, and then goldilocks and the [ demonic voice ] three bears [ laughter and applause ] jimmy now, come on i was just like jimmy thats fantastic [ girly voice ] sorry about that. Sorry about that. And then, i would keep reading. I would keep reading the book. Jimmy oh, my gosh. So it was a pretty special experience. Jimmy some people just are so angry, right . Some people are so angry. A lot of people are kind of oddly sexually attracted to jimmy sometimes both. A little bit of both. Jimmy yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, its been a weird, a a weird mix, for sure. Jimmy and a lot of people watch the show. I mean, theres a broad range of viewers from young people. Theres old fans too. Theres a ton of folks, and from all ages, and when theres so many, i figure kind of everybody thats one out of 100 is going to be nuts of your fans. Theyre going to be a little bit bizarre, a little wonky. Jimmy there will be one out of 100. Rowan claimed he told trump to spread peace by building skate parks around the world. He said trump was receptive to the idea. Trump met with a skateboarder . Did trump and his 10yearold son barron freaky friday when we werent looking . But the source of most of the turmoil inside the trump team seems to be infighting over positions and appointments and a slew of firings of people who were supposed to be running the Transition Team<\/a>. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie<\/a> was supposed to have been in charge, but he was pushed aside after the election by trump soninlaw jared kushner. Which might have something to do with the fact that christie sent kushners father to jail. Jared kushner, Donald Trumps<\/a> soninlaw, is said by sources to be rubbing trump allies the wrong way with a hand in purging chris christie. Back in 2004 christie, then a u. S. Attorney in new jersey, prosecuted kushners father charles, a billionaire real estate development. Charles kushner was accused of Illegal Campaign<\/a> contributions, tax evasion, and other violations. It became a shakespearean drama with Charles Kushner<\/a>s own relatives including a sister turning against him. In a sordid revenge plot, Charles Kushner<\/a> hired a prostitute to lure his sisters husband into having sex in a motel room. The encounter was taped and his sister. It didnt work. Seth seems like a chill guy. [ laughter ] also, christies been angling for a job this whole time knowing he put trumps soninlaws father in jail. What did he think was going to happen . Ill just kiss trumps ass and throw away all my remaining dignity, but it will all be worth it if his soninlaw forgets that incredibly traumatic time when i put his dad in jail. Move over, bridge closing. Chris christies got a new best plan ever. In fact nbc news reported the trump Transition Team<\/a> was undergoing a quote, stalinesque purge from the transition of people close to christie. You can just imagine trumps response to being called stalinesque. Its true. I am kind of like a stallion. [ laughter ] beautiful golden mane. [ laughter ] and that actually underscores a potentially troubling precedent that seems to be taking shape in the trump transition. Trump needs to fill thousands of posts in the executive branch and he needs competent, experienced people around him. Firing or rejecting people based purely on loyalty. For example, a few days ago, a veteran g. O. P. National security expert named Elliott Cohen<\/a> recommended to other antitrump republicans that they serve in the Trump Administration<\/a> for the good of the country. But after talking to the trump Transition Team<\/a>, cohen changed his mind saying, quote, theyre angry, arrogant, screaming, you lost. Well be ugly. It became clear to me that they view jobs as lollipops, things you give out to good boys and girls. Lollipops. Fridayed. [ laughter ] no lollipop for you and you have to eat my broccoli. [ light laughter ] the turmoil has apparently scared a lot of qualified National Security<\/a> officials away from serving in the Trump Administration<\/a>. As one National Security<\/a> official put it, quote, normally youd be attracting the best and brightest at the beginning of an administration, but people are nervous. Is this a sure bet or is it a house of cards thats going to fall apart . But come on, when has trump ever built a house of cards that fell apart . Oh, right. Hisi houses of cards. [ laughter ] the information we do have so far includes some worrisome names. For example, theres one of trumps reported candidates for National Security<\/a> adviser, retired Lieutenant General<\/a> michael flynn, who was forced out of the Obama Administration<\/a> and stirred controversy in february when he tweeted, quote, fear of muslims is rational. When you write the word rational in all caps, it disproves itself. [ light laughter ] its like when you scream in a fight, im totally calm right now. Youre the one whos not calm cabinet sent disturbing signals about his positions on civil liberties. For example, one of the names floated for secretary of defense is arkansas senator tom cotton. Cotton has said he agrees with trumps proposal to bring back torture techniques like waterboarding, which are currently illegal under both u. S. And international law. Do you agree with him that torture works and waterboarding and much worse would be a good idea . Waterboarding isnt torture. We do waterboarding to our own soldiers in the military. Thats in training. But the u. S. Doesnt do it anymore. Theyve stopped. But weve done it in the past you think the u. S. Should do it again . And radio djs volunteer for it. Seth radio djs . But it boils down to i dont know, its a long story can i suffice to say im a hero. Seth right. An american hero. [ laughter ] i saved someone elses life once. I didnt save this womans life. But i did save someones life. They were falling off a building and i saved their life. Seth wow i talked about it on another talk show. What i like to do, is when i do a good deed, i go out in front get the biggest audience i can and talk about it. [ laughter ] seth do you ever has this ever happened, where you know for example, you have a talk show appearance coming up and you havent saved a life ce i drive around. Im like some [ bleep ] better happen. [ laughter ] what if some people need some yeah. That was kind of true. I didnt deliver the baby on the train, although i did tell her i kind of lied to her. I said, ive delivered two babies, dont worry, i got this. Seth okay. Now, i had never delivered two babies. [ laughter ] but i have had i have two sons. Seth you had them delivered. One of them was born at home. Yeah, i had them delivered. Seth its like me saying, i make dominos. Yeah, exactly. It was comforting to her, though. Seth yeah. So thats what matters in that moment. Seth where were you on the train . I was taking the train from l. A. Up to i was going to canada, but the train, amtrak, stops at the border for some reason. Seth yeah. So i was getting off at seattle. It was an overnight train. And i was i was in the middle of the night, i woke up and i heard this someone screaming outside. Seth wow. It was in a little tiny like a cell you sleep, but doors closed. Everythings metal. Its like jail. [ laughter ] and i got up and i looked out and there was a woman like bracing hers very pregnant, crying and screaming. And i said, whats the matter . [ laughter ] and, i should have figured it out. Right then she knew she wasnt in good hands. [ laughter ] seth right, exactly. I bet when you said, ive delivered two kids, she thought back to that sentence, no, you didnt. She had to explain it to me, which was not good. She said, im going into labor and im all alone. And i said, im going to find someone and get you back to your room. I took her back to her room and i started knocking on doors and no one would answer their door. Looked at me and then closed the curtain again amtraks great. I take it everywhere. I really love taking the train, but its also overnight can be a little sketchy. Seth it is sketchy. They thought like why is this dude banging on my door . I didnt look like this totally. But almost. And so no one opened up. So i went back to her room and i sat with her and the contractions are getting closer and closer together. And i was fearing that it was going to come and i said, have you ever had a baby before . She said, i did but there were some complications. There was other things so i had and i thought, oh, man, were in trouble here. [ laughter ] seth right. And on every train car theres also supposed to be someone who works there and that woman was not coming out of her room, either, probably also afraid of me. And so finally, i went upstairs and i realized that this was urgent and something had to be done. And i so i did the old movie like you see the emergency switch. Seth oh, wow. And i grabbed it and i pulled it. Which ive been waiting to do for a long time. [ laughter ] you knew right where it was. Thats what it was all about. Are you pregnant . Let me just boom. [ laughter ] and it didnt stop the train, but it made the loudest noise ive ever heard in my life. Seth oh wow. And it was like this small metal hallway. Like anyway, so finally that got the people up. People started opening their doors. I sent someone to get conductor of the train. He came back. I said weve got to stop the train. He said, theres no stop for another three hours. In the middle of a National Park<\/a> on the border of california and oregon. And i said, youve got to do it anyway. So he looked on our phones, a little gps on the phone, and he called ahead and an ambulance there was a little road that went through the National Park<\/a> and they stopped the train there, we got her off. Seth wow. Got her, boom, done. And then i said i kind of thought it was a big moment for me. Seth sure. Im felt very bonded to this woman. Im leaving out that like i sat with her for a long time. She was in labor, her water broke right there, i was sitting with her, and shed given me her i. D. Because she thought she might die or something, she wanted to know who she was it was like very intense. Seth wow. I thought she would name the [ laughter ] and when i called the hospital i knew what hospital she was going to because i asked the paramedics. And the next day i called the hospital and they put me through to her room and she didnt remember me. [ laughter ] so it was a bigger moment for me than it was for her. Just up until this year weve been staying at jerrys mommys and daddys for the last 12 years. Seth oh, my god, for 12 years. Yeah. Seth what is it like . What is his childhood its umm you know, its crazy. I mean, its a real its like an oconnell museum. Seth oh, really . Yes. Its they bought it in the 70s. I dont think theyve updated it since then. [ laughter ] seth okay, got you. Umm its just its layered. Seth well, that was when new york was its nicest, the 70s. So you want to keep it close to that as possible. [ laughter ] its original. Like all the antiques seth true artists. All the furniture, the walls. All the outlets were too plain. Everything needed to be colored in. And i hated it at first and now now i look at it, its perfect. [ laughter ] you know what, they were right. All this stuff did need to be colored in. [ laughter ] seth so, your show the librarians, as we can see from the clip, there is a lot of special effects in this show. A lot of special effects. Seth is this one of those shows where as an actor youre often have no sense of what youre supposed to be looking at . We have no idea. We need them to describe absolutely everything to us. We watch the finished result along with everybody else just to surprise we have to be told exactly what it is were looking at. Explosion . How far does it go . Where is it traveling . Where are we looking . Its all in our imagination. Seth have you ever accidentally given spark reaction to an explosion . It has happened. Seth and then people think your character is ice cold. [ laughter ] another role that youre famous for is mystique in xmen, and that is that was obviously special effects as well but a lot of basic like human being painted. Right . Seth this was not a cgi gig. That was not cgi. That was all done. That took nine hours every day. Seth nine hours . They would bring me in at midnight for a 9 00 a. M. Call time. Seth oh my goodness. And then nothing was a secret ever. I left a lot of blue paint behind me everywhere i went. Seth yeah. This would not be a good way to be a cat burglar. Terrible. Seth yeah. Like blue toilet seats. Seth yeah, well, what can you do . People were like oh, mystique was in here. [ laughter ] seth and have you cause you know theres that cosplay thing where people go to places like comiccon and they dress like y seth have you ever seen one cause it would seem to me this would be the impossible one to pull off in public. You know, its a terrible Halloween Costume<\/a> for little girls. Seth yep. I dont recommend it. Seth no. I think you would be able to completely completely inappropriate. Seth if you let your child do that you should be on a watch list. Yep, definitely. [ laughter ] i dont recommend it. Its not a great Halloween Costume<\/a> for little girls. But at comiccon, which, you know, and i love comiccon. Its for geeks. Its for scifi geeks. Its for fringe people. It brings seth but its a safe awesome place for them to love things. To celebrate being fringe people. Seth i dig it. Yeah. I have run into people dressed up as who do cosplay as mystique at the comiccons. There was one who did a really good job except for she was purple. Seth oh, thats not good. Thats one glaring mistake. Seth thats a huge i hated to have to point that out. Seth but sometimes you get to the paint store and theyre out of mystique. Theyre out of mystique blue. [ laughter ] seth youre like, ill take grimace. [ laughter ] so you to stay in line with painting, you were the first Sports Illustrated<\/a> model who got the body paint. Yeah. Seth and this was in 99. Ea you were a model in the 90s. I was a model in the 90s for those of you who dont know. Seth have you noticed was there something you were a huge model in the 90s. I was a passable model in the 90s. Seth you were a huge when my friends and i got together and talked about models yep. Really . Seth you were top of our list. [ laughter ] do you what was do you feel like modeling has changed . Was there something unique to the 90s . Well, fashion always changes. So modeling always changes. But there you know, i mean, i did a lot of catalog modeling back in the 90s, and there were some signature seth whats a signature i mean, theres hailing the taxi. Seth oh, thats very good. Yeah, ive seen that. Theres hailing the taxi. And theres certain like theres like a step and repeat like [ laughter ] any if you are any 90s model worth your weight you did that move. And not for the faint of heart. Seth and how many times would you have to do it per outfit . You would have to do it for like 12 hours straight. Seth oh, my god. Biggest difference between the last time you the outfit from the last time a guest was on because last time you were here we did a live show after the conventions. I looked like garbage. Yes. Seth jeans, sweatshirt. But you look fantastic. Well, you know, ever since i was a kid id watch def jam. And all of the black comedians dressed like this. [ laughter ] in the mid 90s. Seth this was the look . Bernie mac, shuckey duckey, all of them. And so im trying to get back to my roots. Seth there you go. And youre doing a fantastic job. Congratulations on all the election shows. Last week dave chappelle, a yeah, that was so much fun. [ applause ] seth was it im jealous you got to spend a whole week working with a sketch pro like chappelle. I mean, its weird how like how just in sync he is immediately. Like, he hadnt been on tv in so long and he just was just like rolling like he never left. It was kind of crazy. And what a week to be on. Seth sure. It was a great week in that as soon as that monologue started, which can sometimes, you know, be an uncomfortable moment, you just immediately felt you were youre like oh, yeah, i forgot im watching the greatest comedian living. Seth and perfect time i would say for this week with kristen wiig coming back. Yeah. Its also its a different kind of thing. Thats how cool snl is, is that there be two completely different kinds of hosts but also just on the right time, just right on the same track. Seth we mentioned last time you were here, we talked about the conventions, and you and jost were saying completely different what you experienced in cleveland with the republicans and in philadelphia with the democrats. Perceive the outcome . We should have saw this coming. Seth youre saying that now. We should have saw this coming. Because when you go to the convention for the republicans they were happy and celebrating. They were all having a great time. And then when you see hillary, the democrats convention, there was people booing. They were heckling. They were crying. They still thought bernie had a chance. And i was like, oh, no, theyre going to be in a popularity contest . Turns out it didnt come out good for her. Seth no. They liked the people that are having f. [ laughter ] seth now, the other thing i want to ask about is you have this netflix special. This is very exciting. But you did it before the election, obviously. Yeah. Seth is there things now based on the result you that wish were in there or do you are you happy with it . I mean you every time you tape comedy you want to do it the next day just because youre like oh, man, you know so much more every time. But theres a lot of stuff that i still think holds up because i try to write from more so the tone of the country, not and you mentioned your brother is a police officer. Yes. Seth and thats affected how youre dealing with him . Well, yeah. I only see him thanksgiving. And even then im like im reaching for the potatoes. [ laughter ] he doesnt find that funny. But i think i think its hysterical. Seth you you and some others, brian tucker, write one of my favorite sketches on recent years on snl called black jeopa [ applause ] seth and i want to talk about the last incarnation of it was with tom hanks. And i felt like as far as any of the comedy thats been done about this election it has an incredible amount of empathy for trump voters in a way that i thought was really unique and interesting. Yeah, well, i mean, i thought it was tuckers idea to do one with a trump voter that gets everything right and plays on in the game, and it made a lot of sense because you know, with all this comedy it seems very divisive and this is kind of a thing that said when you really break it down, weve got the same kind of sensibilities, we come from the same places usually, we want the same things, and this sketch i thought people kind of it was a good way for people to laugh and say were very similar. Seth and particularly you sort of drew a parallel between trump voters and black people, which is not a parallel that anybody else was making at the time. [ laughter ] well seth but it works. My brothers a cop. [ laughter ] no, no. I mean theres a lot you know, listen, i grew up in manhattan in the projects and i feel like i have a lot more in common with southern whites than i do Upper West Side<\/a> whites in manhattan. Seth sure. Yeah, there you go. Also a lot of jesus and guns and big trucks. [ laughter ] seth what is your does that make sense somehow . Yeah, it makes sense. Wallys laughing. [ applause ] seth did you what is your take now on how voters are reacting to the outcome of this i think white people think theyre not going to be white no more. Seth yeah. You think were but seriously youll be fine. Dont worry about it. Seth were going to be okay . Yeah, man. [ laughter ] no, i think people are freaking out and they probably should. Hes a maniac. But also [ laughter ] also, i hope that we remember that hopefully this government is constructed in a way where one man cant undo it all by just pulling a string. Seth yeah. Hopefully. Seth now its interesting because you dont i feel like you have the you got in a little bit of trouble for saying in an interview that donald trump was smart, but this is something that Bernie Sanders<\/a> just said as well. We make the mistake of dismissing his intelligence based on some of the things he says. Clearly hes a smart guy. I mean, he knows something we hillary didnt know apparently. [ laughter ] so i mean, i think sometimes you take for granted when you dismiss a guy as being dumb or dismiss a guy as being crazy and all that stuff, you dont see him coming when he actually does have a plan and puts it into effect. So, we need to give this guy more credit than we are giving him, and maybe he wont shock us as often as he has been. Seth i think thats excellent advice. And im so happy to have you here. So its not what i would lead with, with the parents, but i dont go to p. T. A. Meetings anyways, they dont want me there. Like, duh, i carry a gun. Like it gets a little bit tricky when you play such a badass, because then people really think you are one, which is the best. Badass. Everybody needs an anne heche in their life. . I am in the new Television Show<\/a> aftermath, with my pretend husband james tupper. Well thats a little alarming. . Crazy times, huh. [ screams ] this is definitely a show the world has ended and shifted, in ways that i think really tap into every single fear weve ever had about what might happen to our earth, is happening. Earthquakes and tornados and all the things that we think Mother Nature<\/a> is gonna rain down upon us, is happening. And its dangerous as hell, because everybodys lost everything that they have, so youre also dealing with an emotional desert of where people have landed and i think that is an interesting part of the show too, because its not like were the last people on earth. Its that everyone has lost everything they have and care about and is desperate to find out how theyre gonna survive. Death situation. . Its so fun to play roles that are smarter than you, because its like, i would be going out of mind, like are you kidding . Its the end the world. Somebody just like, took my child up into the air and kidnapped it, and it was well you know, a monster. I would be afraid, karen on the other hand is like cool, well deal with this. I got this. No you dont, its the end of the world. Who cares if youre a marine. The ability for karen to access her violence, gets her into trouble, and so she has to go through a transformation looking embrace in herself in order to help her family survive. And theyre not necessarily the tools she had before, and each one of the family members has to do that. My husband is a you know, he fights for peace, but all of a sudden he has to wield a gun and protect his family, and access those physical, perhaps violent, sides in himself in order to do that. Were gonna have to find another way around for brianna. Oh no were not. We dont have the time. We cant go in there, people are infected in there. So we have [ indiscernible ] which is useless if you walk into a full outbreak. Theyll just kill you for it. They pretend that hes really smart, but i know him kind of well. How so . Sometimes i sleep with him. You know, if he says something nice or something, like a nice poem. But hes not all that bright when he plays bright on tv, i like that yeah. Hes your husband, right . Yes, my husband ive been told. You know, people ask us this all the time, is it really fun to work with your partner. Well thats a yes and no answer right . Sometimes if hes acting well yes, i really like it. If hes doing something thats a good choice yeah, thats fun. If hes boring, no, and i say no hes not my husband. He just got hired to play it on tv. Yeah, its a role. He could get recast. Well duh, i mean in real life and you know, on the show. Im not even married to the guy. Ive been with him for ten years, we have an adorable son, i mean, hes kind of adorable, he looks like his dad. You know, its good but were not married, i can leave him anytime. Im not going to, by the way, like i sometimes say that to him and hes like thats not funny. Its not funny. I wont no. He says that or you . Im gonna stick with him for another three months. Hes over there. . The show is very action oriented. One of the things that i think is special, is that we do do most of our stunts on set, and we dont have, that was this. As big as they are, i mean, obviously the comets we, they, we didnt hire comets to come down and blow us up, but the stunts are really outrageous and fun. So pushing yourself physically in that way is really fun for me. What do you suppose this is for . If you dont ask a good question youre going to get it. Its not a strainer. Its not gonna be that rough on you, but you know what . Youll feel it. Yeah, youll feel it. I usually walk around with an m16, so im really, i feel very im gonna take this strainer. . I was seen in a High School Play<\/a> and they asked me to go back to new york and audition for this show called another world, and i literally held on to the wing of the airplane cause my mom told me i wasnt allowed to go cause i was 17. But its like, im going. And i had never seen a Television Show<\/a>, let alone a soap opera before, and they put all my body parts in a really small little like bikini suit that was nude, and i had all this like, fat and what i called shame weight all over me and this sausage casing and plopped me in a bathtub with bubbles around me. Im in there all day, oh, yeah i got this. Im like what is going on. I had no idea what i was supposed to do, or what i was capable of, and they believed in me, and i could not believe my luck. I, you know, i wore the sausage case things, and you know kept going. . I watch myself 24 7 because i feel like the more i know about me, the better i am. Carson that was anne heche. Acting is such an easy profession to really get wrapped up in your head. And so, you focus what youre there to do. You focus on the character, on the role. You dont think about anything else. Evie marie callahan, will you that was just a surprise. Can i just let me get back to you. Whats funny with evie is sometimes i feel more of her than i would like to in my personal life. I mean, shes lovely and she has a lot of anxiety and when i was brought up, i had a lot of anxiety as a kid. So its something that when i read her, i understood her. I associated with her right away.
