Williams, 7news. A worchester man called to court accused of piewflg a machete on another driver during a roadrage incident, and police say the suspects children were in the car at the time. Today a judge ordered him held without bail. Kimberly bookman live for us in worcester with details of the case. Kimberly. Yeah, police are calling this road rage and say it all happened at the bottom of the street, not only in front of the drivers two taped kids but in front of a bunch of school children. Reporter Alder Riviera greets this judge very politely. Good morning, bless you, sir. Reporter but witnesses say he was out of control tuesday afternoon when he allegedly pulled a machete on a driver who slowed down in a school zone to let students cross the street. I heard someone say, and i dont know who, howd you like to get your head chopped off. Reporter dave reid was sitting on his driveway right near worcesters burncoat school where the alleged roadrage incident happened. It really did. Reporter but the defense Attorney Says riviera is the real victim here. He says when he tristate tried to pass the car, the other driver confronted him. This guy kept chasing him, swearing, the whole deal, then cut him off, got out of his car, came up to his door, opened his door, pulled on it. Reporter rivieras two teenaged children were in the cart at the time. Family says riviera felt they were in danger and acted in selfdefense. He didnt going to hit the dude but he was with his kids and wanted to drive off and the guy kept tailgating and tailgating him. My brothers not violent. This could happen to anybody. Reporter we did try to contact the other driver but were not successful. In the meantime, riviera will be back in court september 21st for a dangerousness hearing. Kimberly bookman, 7 nuts. Police in townsend report an attempted abduction. Police say three tainted boys told them a man jumped out from library yesterday and tried to grab one of them. They say another boy was hit in the neck with a rock. They say the man is old we are a long gray beard. Police searched the woods but couldnt find anyone matching that description. Police and people in the town are left on edge. Its pretty disturbing. My son wanted to come with me when i went out the house because he felt a little spooked. We dont generally worry. You want to make sure youre living in a safe town and unfortunately things Reporter Police say they looked at the Surveillance Video in the library today and didnt find anything inclusive and say theres no threat to the public. Two people are in custody after two Police Officers were hurt in a crash in roxbury. Police say the driver was trying to get away from them when he plowed his car headon into an Unmarked Police car. The Police Officers inside the cart at the time were taken to an area hospital and later released. The suspects were initially on the run for Unlawful Possession heroin and other drugs inside the car after the crash. Police investigating a laser danger near Logan Airport. This time it involves a United Airlines plane. The faa says pilots reported a green laser lit up the cockpit while flying over monday night. The plane left Logan Airport headed to los angeles. Similar incidents happened at least a dozen times in the past year. On just one station, 7news is there as Boston Police roll out the controversial body camera and today were getting our first look at the cameras in action. 100 patrol officers are wearing the cameras while on duty. Nancy chen has more on the programs rollout from the police commissioner. Reporter its the first week of the Boston Police departments body camera Pilot Program. 100 officers are now wearing the cameras. Superintendent and chief William Gross showed off the Technology Tuesday night. A live stream of the camera can be viewed through a phone app. Pleased with the start of the program. Things are going well. The officers are out there. You know, they know, you know, theyre wearing them and i havent heard any complains. Reporter when no officers volunteered for the program, the commissioner selected 100 people to participate. The patrolmans association filed a lawsuit, but a judge ruled friday that the program should begin. I think all along, it was more of a contractual thing than resistance to them by the troops out there. The commissioner says this program is just a small part of what his officers are doing to enhance relationsh cameras are gonna help, but its theyre really the gritty work and working with the young kids, the elderly in the community, thats the way you really build the bonds with the community. The Pilot Program is scheduled to run for six months. In the newsroom, nancy chen, 7news. Caught on camera, an explosive situation at a new jersey mall when a purse burst into flames. Surveillance video capture it is all happening as a woman is battery thats to blame. Reporter it was a typical sunday shopping day at the mall for mara until this happened. From Surveillance Video inside the store her purse seems to explode just as shes paying. Turns out it was a battery for her vaporizer that exploded. I had the battery in this pocket, and it was by itself. And what it did was, it through the pocket, charred every singlele thing, melted every single thing that i had in the bag. Reporter the single mom says her first thought was some kind of attack or shooting. What i heard first was a bang. And with the with it being 9 11, i thought maybe like it kind of sounded like a gunshot. The whole bag was engulfed in flames. Reporter she would like to be reimbursed for the purse, its content. Reporter sunday afternoon the schools varsity and jv football teams were leaving on buses after returning from a friday night game in california. The driver somehow crashed into a concrete bridge in the passenger pickup area and was killed. 15 students were taken to the hospital. Three of the coaches suffered significant injuries and included broken bones and fractured skulls. Just really affected us all. Reporter every student is expected to be okay. Monday one student tried to speak with his injured friends as they entered the school in talk about it because it was like so traumatic for most of them. Reporter junior kevin sagira spoke to a close friend on the football team, who was on the bus. He saw the bus driver pass and really traumatized right now.
