Covering her face with a hoodie, 34yearold Melissa Benedict of dorchester pleads not guilty to charges of Motor Vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. She stopped about 20 minutes after the accident. Reporter Surveillance Video shows her driving away in a minivan she was operating for vhs transportation. Wednesday morning along washington street in dorchester that claimed the life of a 43yearold man. Prosecutors say the construction worker was crossing the street when he was struck and killed. Benedicts smashedup minivan was located four miles away in mattapan. Benedicts Attorney Says her client has no record and is a mother of two young children. She stands before you with no record. I have spoken to the family. She has many family members in the courtroom fbs. She has aunts, uncles, her sister and brother are both here. But from there, his vanity really took over. Face led police right to him. Reporter selfie cost this smiling teenager his freedom. Police had an easy time finding this suspected thief after he snapped a fee toe of himself on a stolen ipad. No. I dont think the suspect is a threat to the national security. For sure. Report few days ago, a wrentham man had his backpack stole from his car. His ipad was gone. Days later, he noticed something odd. Looking on to his account, saw nine photos that were uploaded after the truck had been broken into. Reporter most of the pictures were selfies. Investigators had a face. They needed a location. I like to say the police did all of. This the victim did most of it. He activated his find his ipad app. And that narrowed it to an area of woonsocket. Reporter police knocked on several doors in woonsocket. They found a woman who said that was her son. Officers found the ipad in their kitchen and arrested the 19yearold. After the arrest, Wrentham Police linked him to other at a pawn shop in rhode island. The suspect got nabbed again for a residential housebreak in woonsocket. Reporter police are the ones smiling now. They barely did any work and still solved the case. Technology is great. It is even better if the suspect takes a picture of themselves and sends it our way. Now experts have a warning about another problem. Nancy a local man says a utility made a mess of his nancy a power problem sparking trouble for a cape cod man. His driveway was dug up and destroyed. Kris the crew chief promised everything would be repaired. They gave me a flyer and said, if somebody isnt out in two weeks to fix your property, this is the number that you call. Kris two weeks passed. No work was done. Jerry called the number on the flyer. Back to me. Nothing happened. Kris weeks turned into months. The damage was spreading to the other side of the driveway. He was worried it would continue to get worse. With no returned calls and no answers, he was running out of options. I said, you know, we have to go to court to do. This to get this settled. Then lo and behold, Kris Anderson is on the news. I said, thats what im going to do. Jerry reached out to solve it 7. We called eversource. The representative told us that they didnt have a damage claim on file for jerry. But that someone would reach out to him regarding the work. A few weeks later, his driveway and yard were repaired.
