And the city of boston, worcester, no advisories, watches or warnings. And blizzard criteria in marthas blizzard. Visibility for three consecutive hours on Marthas Vineyard. It is a 12hour storm from midday today to midnight tonight. Scenario. We have been talking about this most of the week where it is a drastic cut off from very heavy snow, new york city picking up 23 inches of snow per hour and you move to connecticut and just a few flurry. Here the chal challenge. How much dry air can chew up the heavy plume of snow out of new york city as the snow lifts north . I think the dry air will do a great job north of the mass pike. Midday patches of light snow and flurries in the city of boston. But the steady snow because of the dry air never makes it much farther north than say, possibly pembroke and south of there. And thats where the snow will stay for the entire event. Again the dry air is your friend. Maybe a coating to an inch, metro west, the western suburbs, cape ann 13. Downtown boston 23 inches of snow and then the south shore. 36 inches of snow. 610 inches south coast as well as the cape and the islands. For more heres chris lambert. Chris we have the snow and the wind. Theres a wind advisory across essex county from 10 00 to 10 00 on sunday and a high wind warning the cape in nantucket. This is where we expect not only the heaviest snow but the strongest wind as well, and it will create some issue. Yes, we are not getting the two feet of snow as they are in d. C. , but this is still a storm for us in the cape and islands. Late this afternoon, tonight and fom morning could exceed 50 across the islands at times. Inland not as strong as what we will see along the coastline. It will push the ocean water back to the coastline, from hull down to the cape and nantucket, we will have concern of moderate coastal flooding a possibility especially the more prone areas like sandwich harbor. The combination of the winds and heavy wet snow could lead to Power Outages through the cape and islands and back to the south coast. I will keep an eye on that as well. More onto forecast to come. As they mentioned this Winter Weather could cause coastal flooding with the highest risk on the south coast cape and the islands according to the island morning. When it hits the house if its bad enough and Strong Enough it will go through the knockout panels. A new seawall built in marshfield after last winter will hopefully help once the storm does hit. And from the ground to the air, thousands of Flights Canceled today as that snowstorm hits the east. Has completely shut down airports from washington d. C. , philadelphia and charlotte. It will not allow the storm to move north, it will force it to go east at this point. The challenge for new england meteorologists, including yours truly is just how north does that heavy plume of snow that is now pummeling new york city get im not concerned it will reach boston but it doesnt get to the mass pike. It will be confined to the south coast, the cape and islands. Even in those locations after midnight the storm quickly begins to pull out of here so by tomorrow morning, i think its s sunny in boston with lingering light snow and flurries. The challenge is the Snowfall Forecast. We will hold strong we think around the metro, 13 inches. Perhaps lay down 3 inches in the city of boston and the north shore, and metro west about an inch or so, worcester, pembroke, preliminary lymouth , the south coast about 610 inches of snow. Traveling, i think most of us are fine in the afternoon. 4 00 in afternoon poor conditions. It tries to approach the city of boston. And it includes a dinner and a movie, i think around boston, 128 inside including the city, i would keep the reservations and allow for extra time. I dont think its s overwhelming snow for boston but southeast mass it will be a tough go. And so is chris had this is your map, sorry. 30 Miles Per Hour gusts in boston. These winds increasing as we go throughout the day and especially later this afternoon. Tonight. Frequent gusts to 40. 45 to 50 across the cape and islands and perhaps that speed, 4550 across cape ann. The islands cape cod 5560. And with the wind out of the northeast you are pushing the ocean water. Fortunately this isnt prolonged push of water toward the coastline, so we are not talking major coastal flooding but we we expect around 11 00 in the morning. 32 in boston. 33 in plymouth. This coastal front you can get a little convergence in here that will allow for snow to the north and west of boston. We have the cut off from southwest and southeast and a consistency. In worcester. No that we will see a ton of it, but where we have the higher snow totals it is a wetter snow with ocean air temperatures running in. It will be a wetter snow across the cape and the islands. The storm pushing through metro new york city. They have a blizzard warning in effect as well as the shoreline of connecticut. Even Marthas Vineyard, a storm warning. South coast in the cape, thats where most of the heavier snow will be contained will be along the south coast late this afternoon and evening. Blizzard criteria. Not so much the amount of snow on the way, but the concern of reduced visibility to a quarter mile or lower for three consecutive hours. Thats why the Weather Service its not in effect for nantucket because there will likely be rain and sleet mixed in, but anticipating the snow much like chatham and brewster. What helps us out if you do not like the snow, it is the dry air. It will chew up the Northern Edge of the snow that through new york city, long island, this deep shade of blue, that is very heavy snow. That is a fire hose of snow. 23 inches per hour. The storm system wants to come north but High Pressure says not so fast rgs my friend, and it gets pinched out to the south of new england for the next 1218 hours and its out of here during the day tomorrow. Patchy light snow arriving early this afternoon around the metro. Steadier snow arrives south shore and everything winds down i plan on boston, 23 inches of snow and farther north a coating of an inch, and along the south coast and cape 610 inches of snow. Wind speeds 30 Miles Per Hour. Gusting to 28, 3 an in the vineyards. The wind speeds in 35 in the vineyards. Closer to 40 across the coastline and 50 down through the cape and islands. We have a high wind warning in place from 10 00 through 10 00 tomorrow morning. The island seeing some of the strongest wind at times gusting over 50 Miles Per Hour. So no, we are not getting the two, two andahalf fee of snow, they are down in the mid atlantic, but its still a storm and we have a lot of wind and still getting snow out of this storm as we go through the next moderate to pockets of major coastal flooding. For us, the impact is a little on the minimal side. The most prone area that is get the coastal flooding and some of the shoreline road will be inundated to high tide tomorrow. High tide around 11 00 with the pockets of moderate flooding. More on the forecast coming up. All right, chris, as the weather team mentioned it could cause coastal flooding with the highest risk on the south coast, the cape and the islands. If the storm hits like they are saying, it will be the first storm that might purge the seawall to see how this holds up. And if the water comes over, i mean, its going to do a lot of damage. They are prepped there. Neighbors in that area are confident in that new seawall that was put in last winter that will help out and they made sure to get a few supplies as well. This storm is being blamed it could rank as one of the worst to hit part of the country in nearly a century. Heres chris with more. A monster storm barrels up the east coast. How long do these heavier flums of snow get into southern new england and how long do they stay there and when do they begin to peel out of here . Dry air in north new england will do a great job of fending off the snow especially in New Hampshire and metro boston. Im thinking around 3 in the city of boston. 3 inches of snow. But farther south there will be more snow in the bridgewater area, plymouth, fall river. Route 44 south of there toward locally heavy snow there. From the power house storm that would normally want to wobble north. These storms like to go from south to north. They do not like to go west or east but this one is going to have to, High Pressure, old blue, aint moving for anyone. Even with that said southern new england is on the edge of the storm and it quickly ly ly moves out of here tomorrow. How much snow is on the way . Again the dry air fends off the snow in the Merrimack Valley. A coating to an inch. This might be a burst of snow in metro west because thats where the coastal front is setting up. You might end up with 12 inches of snow worcester, carlisle. Then you come down to the city of boston inside 128 more likely to see two and three. And south of town, route 24, route 3, 36 inches of snow and 610 inches of snow. That will be a heavy wet pasty snow. The concern there is that you have that with the strong winds that will develop. There might be how we are outages. And for more here is chris lambert. Good morning. We are concerned about the wind in the cape an nantucket. Gusts 50 Miles Per Hour with the wet snow. High wind warning for you folks 10 00 this morning to 10 00 tomorrow morning. Wind gusting at 36 Miles Per Hour. These numbers increasing throughout the day and peaking late this afternoon and overnight tonight. And constant gusts around 3040 along the coastline. We will get a few gusts exceeding 50 Miles Per Hour across the cape and the islands. The winds coming out of the northeast initially and more out of the north so its pushing the ocean water toward the coastline. So we have a coastal flood watch in place. Most acceptable to moderate flooding. And places like sandwich in the harbor where you are facing directly into the wind, that water gets pushed toward you. Could get minor coastal flooding if not moderate coastal flooding. Could get a few outages across the cape with gusty winds and heavy wet snow. The snow will be wetter and heavier the farther east you go. Theres the coastal front where you have temperatures in the teens and lower 20s to the north and west of it. And that can help aid in a little bit of Snow Development to the north and west of boston for a few hours later on today. And then this front slide down to the east and once it does, the snow starts to shut off from northwest to southeast around midnight tonight. Tomorrow, snow is over, sunshine back with us. He likes giving back to the community. Enjoys it. Katie robert sop robertson is a single mom and she relied on soup kitchens to keep her family fed which he found out recently. I remember sitting in my room and i was shocked by it. I want to do is something that was provided for my family. She admits it wasnt easy to tell her son. Receiving help and giving back is what its about. Hes one of those kid that are so humble he doesnt go around looking for recognition or praise. We had we had decent storms but no arctic High Pressure to supply the storms with cold air. Now the irony for the snow pressure but the High Pressure might work against the snow lovers in boston and force the storm south. You can see this right here that a plume of snow working out of d. C. , baltimore, into new york city now, but as we run the loop. I will do it one more time. You notice the northward advancement, right . Theres the star, so we run it and there hasnt been much advancement north of my hand there. High pressure that allowed that storm to zip right up to new england. It is a slow process. It is trying to fight with the dry air and it will be a struggle all day and evening for the storm. D. C. Under a blizzard warning and its the 95 corridor basically from washington d. C. Through baltimore, long island and even Marthas Vineyard under the warning as well. It will go into effect later this afternoon and evening for Marthas Vineyard. Snow around northern virginia, maryland and that works up to extreme portions of southern pennsylvania and new york city, 12 feet of snow. And for washington d. C. It could be in the top three of the major storms. Right now at Reagan National we have 14 inches. They have several more hours of snow to go. Thats something we will watch for you. And of course we will watch what is going on in our own backyard. Boston, nothing is officially in effect but not to say we wont get snow, but we will get some snow. The criteria is not because of heavy snow, its the reducing visibility for three or more hours. Thats the concern on Marthas Vineyard. Midday today to after midnight tonight. The snow will be all or nothing with the plume of heavy snow trying to work up in new england and the dry air trying to fend it off. It is a real battle because of the storm syste right here. Forced out to our south with High Pressure not moving, but where that plume of heavy snow sets up, that is the challenge for the forecast. The Storm Timeline brings the snow, patchy light snow and flurries into the metro around lunchtime and thats the case for the afternoon and evening hours, with the steadier snow through southeast mass as well as rhode island and connecticut and the steady snow continues tonight and winds down quickly after midnight tonight. So its gone by tomorrow morning. How much snow . The light shading of blue, i plan out three inches of snow in the city. Northwest of there, around an inch an inch or so. And as you head south of town, 36 inches of snow. Pembroke, 610 inches in new bedford and out on to the cape as well as the islands. Chris, your turn. Jr, a lot of snow on this and a lot of wind. Checking the observations out of delaware. Wind gusts to 75 Miles Per Hour. Coastal flooding as we speak. Ocean city, new jersey seeing a lot of that, too. So the travel conditions, i think we are okay for a while here from boston to worcester at least through the early afternoon. And you have the steadier snow along the south coast later this afternoon. Still fair, close to route 44 and up to the south shore by mid to Late Afternoon. Okay in the city of boston. Patchy light snow breaking out at this time. You work into later this evening and this will be the time frame to start watching what happens down through southeastern mass, to south shore, the cape and the islands. There may be the secondary wave with the ocean storm to the south and east that brings in heavier snow down this way. I do expect poor travel down through the south shore. Down through the cape and the islands, this evening through midnight tonight. City of boston, its manageable. We are expecting 23 inches of snow from boston and we will have good travel later on tonight. Southern New Hampshire. Wind speeds gusting 5060 Miles Per Hour and there is the risk of moderate coastal flooding. Pockets of moderate flooding tomorrow morning during the hide tide at 11 00 in the morning. We have a Winter Weather advisory that is purple and pink is the winter storm warning and red is the blizzard storm warning that will be in effect vineyard. This heavy plume of snow the dry air will chew up the Northern Edge of the snow band thanks to arctic High Pressure. High pressure and low pressure. The difference of the pressure between these two are setting up the wind. There may not be anything in the form of snow flurry activity in boston, but its windy. So even though the city doesnt get much snow there had be a lot of wind out there this afternoon, overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. You notice the h and l, they are checking each other out and just not far from each other. That will set up wind this afternoon. So patchy light snow and flurries in the city of boston. Steadier snow. It continues until 2 00 or 3 00 in the morning and then winds down tomorrow morning. For the rest of us its all over by early tomorrow morning. The amount of snow on the way, smallest numbers are up through the Merrimack Valley and plan on one to two inches of snow. Coach, new south coast, new bedford. Plenty of snow and plenty of wind down that way. We have a high wind warning for the cape and nantucket for gusts 60 Miles Per Hour this afternoon into the overnight hours tonight. The concern around the midday high tide, pockets of moderate coastal flooding. Moderate flooding from hull to the cape and over to nantucket and especially the east and north facing shorelines. High tide 11 00 in boston. Sandwich after 11 00 and noon time in nantucket and the water getting pinned in onto strong northerly winds. Keeping it is more prone to it during that high tide versus what we will see on tonights high tide. How about a power outage . You combine the wind and heavy wet snow, the best chance to see outages through the cape and the islands. 32 in boston. 23 in bedford. Heres the coastal front and you are beginning to see a little moisture converge along that. If you are seeing spitting snow and flurries, thats along the coastal front and it will set up the coastal air from the dryer air from the east. About 1015 degrees and that could create a little snow too. We have a little snow in the forecast, north and west of boston. Sunshine back, gusty wind in the morning. They will subside by Late Afternoon and this is not like last year where you get a snowstorm and it doesnt melt. We will get snow on this one and get melting temperatures as we enter next week. We have seen a couple of snowmobiles out here oddly because thats what you can do with it. What you see is what you get in d. C. , plenty of snow constantly falling. What you cant see is some of the sights. The Capitol Building is down the street on a normal day, but to see it today is not a chance. By the time we are done we have about a foot of snow on the ground right now. We could have double that later on today. The historic and crippling storm is pounding much of the eastern u. S. It is expected to create dangerous conditions through saturday night. It is intensifying over North Carolina and could bring a foot of snow to new york city and capitol. At least eight people have died in weather related accidents in kentucky, North Carolina and virginia and 85 Million People are in the storms path. Citizens are strongly encouraged to remain indoors and off the streets. And 130,000 customers are without power and a snow emergency in washington d. C. In kentucky the National Guard has been rescuing drivers trapped in their vehicles on an icy interstate highway. Stop trapped for 12 hours. We have stuff in there to keep warm with, you know. It will not run for the entire weekend because officials want people to stay inside of their homes. Even if you did want to venture out of your car you would have a hard time doing that. A lot of the streets havent been plowed. If you have an suv you might be able to get by, but mostly right now weve seen snowplows working on the main drag which is how officials want to see it kept. Is not hit as much as we are in boston with snowstorms, but do you feel like city officials are prepared for this . Well, its odd. On wednesday we had got just a light dusting of snow. Really unprepared for that. The streets werent treated. It caused massive gridlock. A colleague of mine that lived 17 miles out of town, he had to stay out of town halfway because he wasnt going to make it. That was with an inch. When they heard it would get up to 30 inches they want to take more precautions. They are more prepared out. Theres 50 front end loaders to get the street cleared and get 39 tons of salt on the road to hopefully get things back to normal early next week. Scott down in d. C. Pembroke and plymouth and in this area it will be a light and fluffy snow. In these locations, basically east of route 24 it is a heavy, wet pasty snow so remember, bend at the knees. Now the time frame is watch to the south and east of boston is the evening through about midnight, 2 00 in the morning where we could get heavier bands so traveling poor down route 3 and 24 this evening and overnight tonight. Until 1 00 to 2 00 in the morning. After that the snow will turn off quickly from the northwest to southeast. The winds gusting 4550 to 60 Miles Per Hour. Wind advise ory on the north shore. We do expect minor coastal flooding around tomorrows high tide around 11 00 in the morning. It will give us coastal flooding. Take a look at the sevenday forecast. Boston, nothing is in effect but you will have snow in the city through the afternoon. Essentially its 12hour storm and the snow. Its an all or nothing forecast. Some of you will walk away and say it was a terrible forecast. Others will say, spot on. The challenge is going to be boston south. Especially south of town. That is the very difficult forecast. Right now Doppler Radar showing a couple flurries and also it looks like weve got this wall of snow advancing, but what is going on a the radar beam up in the cloudy texting flakes but its not reaching the ground for the most part. Connecticut, it is snowing steadily. You see this deep shade of blue approaching the island . That is a plume of heavy snow. Does it hold together and how far north does it work up to buzzards bay before it pulls back out of here with the dry air trying to fend off these heavy band of snow that are storm. High pressure will not move. It will force the storm to go right and go out underneath of new england. In doing so it will keep extreme south new england prone to the plumes of heavy snow. The Snowfall Forecast in terms of the timeline shows heavy snow developing. The steadiest will be across southeast massachusetts, dukes county and nantucket with lighter snow around the city of boston. It will wind down around the metro. Might take a little lock longer may not taper off until 4 00 or 5 00, but after 7 00 we are quiet. So the Snowfall Forecast, again its a challenge south of town. I think boston, i would focus on the three more than the one. We will say 12, south of town 36 inches. Leaning on the higher end of these numbers. Pembroke and preliminary plymouth plymouth. And traveling is good through the first part of the afternoon. So if you have date night north of town keep it intact. City of boston, fair conditions. Allow extroo time. Conditions. Chris lambert picks it up from here weve been talking about what to expect snow wise and in fact, when you look down into pennsylvania, there is over 100 miles stretch of 0 snow to about 30 inches to the south. So its very sharp. They are dealing with the mid atlantic to the southern show line to delaware and maryland and even parts of virginia. Moderate thome o major coastal flooding. We do expect moderate pockets of coastal flooding in our area the high tide around 11 00 in the morning and more susceptible through sandwich over to the cape and nantucket. The north and east facing expecting minor coastal flooding. And perhaps moderate coastal flooding across nantucket. The wind, the other part of this storm. So we are talking snow totals. Close to a half foot of snow and higher farther to the south you go down route three and down to 44 here. And its heavy wet snow with gusts closing in on 50 Miles Per Hour.
