A young man is back in custody this morning after the Story County Sheriffs Office says he tried to escape during a transfer and hitch a ride from drivers along the road. It happened around two oclock yesterday. Police say a transport officer and the juvenile stopped at a southbound rest area on i35 to a correctional facility in clarinda. Thats when the juvenile escaped, several miles down the road. Near mile marker 116 after the car that picked him up broke down. 10 13 24 they pulled in to use the facilities at the rest area and i believe upon exiting out of the facilities the juvenile male took off running and hopped into a car and that car left with that male. 10 27 21 i was talking to him in the back he was like yeah, im just on my way out of town man, he was like im just trying to get to safe spot, im like alright.
