Pregnant while in the Milwaukee County jail is asking for 8. 5 million from the county after she says she gave birth to a baby girl while in custody, and the baby died. Kathy as terry sater reports, the woman says she told a corrections officer she was going into labor and nothing was done. This is 30yearold shade swayzer. In july, she says she gave birth to a healthy baby girl while in the Milwaukee County jail, but received no medical help in a maximum security unit. Jason jankowski is her attorney she had to spend 23 hours a day locked in her cell with very little contact or medical treatment. The notice of claim says before swayzer was booked into the jail, Glendale Police took her to the hospital, where she was told her unborn child was viable and her pregnancy was progressing normally. The claim goes on to say eight days after swayzer was booked into jail, she went into labor in her cell and she told a correctional officer her water had broken. But instead, he didnt call a doctor. He didnt call in nurse. It didnt call eight nurse. Didnt call a nurse. He didnt even open the door. He just laughed at her and kept moving. The Attorney Says shade is bipolar and schizophrenic, and while in jail was never given her prescribed prenatal medications, Mental Health medications, or seen by a licensed obstetrician, doctor. So two and a half hours after the baby had been born and six and a half hours after she had gone into labor, thats when they noticed the baby was born. And jankowski says thats also when they noticed the baby was dead. The Sheriffs Office is refusing to comment, saying its an ongoing investigation. In Milwaukee County, terry sater, wisn 12 news. Kathy the Sheriffs Office has had four inmates die this year. Theyve asked for an outside agency to investigate just of one those deaths. They gathered the numbers during a single night in january. On that day, tens of thousands of volunteers across the nation look for and count Homeless People on the streets, in emergency shelters and in transitional housing. Heres what was found in wisconsin. In january of this year, 5,685 people were experiencing homelessness. Thats a 10. 2 drop from january 2010. Most of the homeless were in 410 were unsheltered. There was a 15 drop since 2010 in the number of families with children experiencing homelessness. Veteran homelessness dropped by 32 . The obama administrations plan to prevent and end homelessness is called opening doors. It started in 2010.
