News at 6 00. Colleen henry, wisn 12 news. Toya again this began saturday, august 13 when police stopped, what they called, a suspicious vehicle at 44th and auer. Officers say 23yearold Sylville Smith got out and ran from police. An officer shot and killed smith. The chief and mayor say the body camera footage shows smith was holding a gun. Smith was shot once in the chest and once in the arm. Later that night, unrest began in sherman park. Eight businesses were set on fire, seven squad cars were damaged, and four officers were injured. On sunday night, august 14, the unrest continued. An 18yearold was shot in the neck three more squads were damaged and 4 additional officers were hurt. Patrick right now, investigators are looking for this man. Hes accused of setting one of those eight businesses on fire during the unrest. Wisn 12 newss Joyce Garbaciak has that part of the story from the newsroom. Joyce police and the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms released the surveillance picture this afternoon. Its from mjm liquor near 23rd several people who showed up in six cars early in the morning two sundays ago. Investigators say there were about four people in each vehicle. Police say the suspects broke into the store, looted it and threw molotov cocktails inside. Wisn 12 news spoke to the owner last week. This one little old thing, i aint got no animosity. One person was found dead inside. They have not been identified. The state fire marshall is now investigating the cause. The red cross opened an Emergency Shelter at Farnsworth Middle School for the dozens of people displaced. A milwaukee officer on patrol finds a man shot and bleeding officers to gunfire in the area just after midnight. When officers responded they found the 18yearold victim. Officers say they tried to stop the driver of a minivan just before midnight near 60th and brown deer road after a check of the plate revealed it was stolen. Police say the driver took off, causing a crash near 76th and good hope. Police say the driver took off again, eventually crashing near the 17yearold driver is under arrest. New information on a body pulled from the Milwaukee River in lincoln park. The Sheriffs Office says the body of 46yearold thomas williamslewis was found last friday by someone walking their dog. The medical examiner is investigating his cause of death. It came down, sliding out and crashed down. Toya a racine man says half of after a recent storm, is putting his home in danger. This tree split in half and came crashing down almost a month ago. The homeowner says we energies left the tree unstable, and now he worries about the other half, leaning over his house. Thats not the whole story. I said you cant just cut all the weight off of one side and expect that its not going to fall. Kent mark valade says he saw it coming, and now cant afford to clear away the tree that fell across his fence into his yard or take down the rest of it still hanging over his home. And thinks it should be someone we energies for the way they cut the tree and left it in a position of danger really. Kent he says the tree split after utility crews cut branches that had fallen into power lines on one side leaving the tree unstable. And the City Code Enforcement Department is looking into whether the neighbor, whos property the tree is on, may be responsible for the clean up. Well, if you try to imagine yourself as a child receiving an assignment from a teacher, knowing full well that you cant finish the projects, its very, very hard. Tim major tim meyer with the Salvation Army hopes to see the donations pour in starting Tuesday Morning during the wisn Class Act Phone Bank. But we just ask as the phone respond and people look beyond themselves and realize there are other folks who are needy. Tim according to mps, the need is great. There are more than 77,000 students in the district with almost 83 classified as lowincome. Money and School Supplies are both welcome donations. Last year, almost 3400 students received backpacks filled with notebooks, folders, pens and more.
