Joyce homicide in the unlikeliest place, the front door of a Milwaukee Police station. Police say a stranger approached two men in a van outside district six. Moments later, the stranger was dead. As wisn 12 news Colleen Henry reports, the men were there to buy a gun. Police say the stranger walked up to the van and asked why they were eyeballing him. E stranger threw a traffic cone into the van. He walked away, then returned. There were more words. And in clear view of the station, police say the vans passenger got out and fired his gun three times. 42yearold reed carlsen died at the hospital. I can understand why someone shot him. He was crazy. Carlsen last lived in this building near 64th and lincoln history of Mental Illness and arrest records show carlsen had then in jail for times in the last year. This guy was scary, he really was. You didnt want to run across him. He just looked like he was ready to snap. I can understand somebody being physically afraid of him, yeah. Police say officers inside district six heard the shots outside, seconds later the 65yearold shooter and turned in themselves and the gun. Joyce the accused shooter is in custody tonight. He has no prior record. The da will review his case next week. His friend the guy driving the van, a former mpd officer who once worked here at district six. One of the two girls charged with stabbing their friend 19 times will enter an insanity anissa weier were accused of stabbing their friend after luring her into the woods. The girls, who were 12 at the time, say they were trying to please the fictional character slender man. Today, the attorney for geyser said she will plead not guilty due to a mental defect. Attorneys for both girls are also seeking a change of venue. In waukesha, the level of publicity has been really quite high. So i think in this media market and in this its difficult to get jurors who dont have a strong opinion of the case. Kathy the judge appointed a psychologist not related to the case to perform a psychiatric evaluation on geyser. The results should be revealed during the next hearing in october. The Police Shooting of 23yearold Sylville Smith that sparked two days of unrest in milwaukee. The medical examiner confirms that smith was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the arm. It happened saturday at 44th and auer, when Police Say Smith ran off during a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle. Police say he was armed. The officer who shot smith is also africanamerican. Its a message Jermaine Robertson hopes will make a difference with those who may need to hear it the most. If they love their city, they can stop the violence. If they love their city, they shouldnt be doing the way theyre doing now. And for others, simply a reminder to focus on the good things in the city.
