It started around midnight. When officers connection with a homicide. The driver took off. And ended up crashing into a car near 15th and capitol. Stopping right next to a house. The driver who Police Believe is a homicide suspect ran away from the crash. Officers found him hiding in a nearby yard. And he was arrested. A 23yearold woman who was a passenger in the truck was also taken into custody. The man in the other car was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Police investigating a shooting on milwaukees north we a man was shot in the knee near 95th and brown deer road. Police say the guy was in a fight. They say he was taken back to his house on heather avenue. Emergency crews picked him up and took him to the hospital. Milwaukee police are also investigating a homicide on the citys north side. A 61yearold man was shot and killed near hopkins and burleigh. It happened around 6 30 last night. Police have not released any information about suspects or arrests. 12 deaths in just 72 hours. Drug abuse is a problem that has been plaguing communities in southeast wisconsin for years but recently its spiked. It was two weeks ago we first talked to Alderman Michael murphy. And im fearful that its only going to get worse. this past weekend is proof that it has. The Milwaukee County medical examiner reports that in the past 72 hours, 12 more people have died from a suspected overdose. Area, attorney general brad schimel outlined how he sees best to combat the issue. but above all, from my perspective we need prevention, we have to stop more people from flowing into this problem. through july of this year, 161 people have died from drug overdoses. Thats up 10 percent so far this year, according to the Milwaukee County medical examiners office. we have great prevention messages if we can just convince people to use their medications only as theyre prescribed to them, to st in their home, and to get rid of them when theyre done taking their prescription. the mes office says it will take 3 days to autopsy all 12 of the recent deaths. Pipito thinks matilda knocked over a heat lamp. The fire started before six sunday night. Pipito was just pulling in to the business to take care of some paperwork when he noticed the flames. Dp my life was on fire. Literally. I pulled up and i couldnt believe what i was seeing. at least ten departments from nearby communities assisted in putting out the fire. Dp we were here until ab in the morning. They put it out and it reignited a little bit. pipito credits the brick wall separating the room matilda was in from the rest of the business. As the main reason the fire didnt spread throughout the building. That room has since been sealed by inspectors. The businesses structure remains intact. Dp i cant say how lucky i am to be able to still come to work. . But theres now a gaping hole in its heart. Dp the building can be remodeled, redone. But you the Waukesha County Sheriffs Office tells us the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental. Aquatica has been open for 16 years.
