But the National Hurricane center says the storm is weakening. And has since been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. Hermine was the first hurricane to hit florida in more than a decade. The storm was originally packing about 80 mile per hour winds. But the maximum wind speeds are now down closer to 75 miles per hour. The storm also bringing some heavy rain and flooding. But there is still potential for dangerous conditions as it moves up the east coast. News from overnight one person rescued from a fire in whitefish bay. North shore fire crews were called out to the scene near henry clay and diversey early this morning. The person rescued was evaluated by paramedics on scene. But their condition is not known at this time. No word yet on what caused the blaze. And Milwaukee Police investigating three shootings overnight. The first taking place near 86th and hampton. Police say a 21yearold man was shot after two people tried robbing him. The man is expected to suspects. Police say the other two shootings. The circumstances remain unclear at this point in time. Were told a 26yearold man was shot near 20th and finn around 1 45 a m. And suffered a serious injury but is expected to survive. And then around 3 15. A 35yearold man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. But police dont know where the shooting actually took place. He is also expected to survive. And Police Continue to investigate. Sobering new numbers on violence in milwaukee. There were 24 homicides in august. The highest total in 25 years when police discovered the bodies of serial killer Jeffery Dahmers victims. In july of 1991. In a News Conference thursday high. It surpassed chicago. This. Despite the fact that chicago also experienced a recordsetting 90 homicides in august. Flynn says the majority of homicides in milwaukee stem from gun violence between convicted offenders. And he says the majority of homicide victims and assailants are african americans. Mpd has taken 16 hundred guns off the streets so far this year but he says part of the solution. Should be tougher laws. To crack down on felons caught in possession of a firearm. Bennetts family says theyre hurting. Its very devastating because never would i have thought it would be my child. It really hits home when it happens to you. As though his homicide may have been overshadowed by what took place in sherman park. They are hopeful someone will be held responsible for bennetts murder. A funeral will be held for a nun with ties to milwaukee who was killed in mississippi. Sister margaret held grew up in slinger. And worked with the School Sisters of Saint Francis in milwaukee. She and sister Paula Merrill were found murdered in their central mississippi home last week. A visitation will be held at st. Joseph center at layton and led by archbishop Jerome Listecki will follow. Organizers ask any donations be made to the School Sisters of Saint Francis.
