People were upset over the riots last night, and that officer Darren Wilson is a free man. Outrage from coast to coast. Today, for the first time officer Darren Wilson is talking publicly about the day he shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown, telling George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview that while he is sorry , he would not have done anything differently. Wilson remained in hiding, where yesterday he learned a grand jury decided not to indict him. The announcement sparked violent protests in and around ferguson, missouri. I am very disappointed. Michael browns family through their attorney shared their own disappointment, angry with how the case that sparked the unrest was handled. Police across the country say they are getting ready for more protests in the wake of the grand jury decision. Were focused in five different areas in the district today. Outside muriel bowsers Transition Office in northwest, one protest will start about an hour and a half. We are at Freedom Plaza in front of the wilson building. We still have a Police Presence here because of the demonstration which was held a short while ago. If you look across Freedom Plaza , you still see a number of demonstrators lingering. Mostly young people. These demonstrations began earlier today, this morning actually, in front of the Justice Department and metropolitan police headquarters. They held dieins, lying down on the sidewalk to try to draw attention to what they say are abuses by the Police System against young black men. They are calling for demilitarization, for Police Officers to be required to wear body cameras, and also for better oversight of Law Enforcement across the country. They do believe that these goals are obtainable. Is not about necessarily having police not protect people. It is about having police not killing people, not using force to and unnecessary you can see the demonstrators across the street here at Freedom Plaza. They will be moving to Judiciary Square very shortly to muriel bowsers transitional headquarters. They will health have another demonstration, and protests will continue through the evening as well. U. S. Attorney general eric holder says that even though the grand jury decided not to indict officer wilson, the Justice Department will still investigate the shooting incident. The department is looking into any potential civil rights violations, specifically the question of whether Darren Wilson deprived Michael Brown of his civil rights. That is a difficult claim to prove. For example, in 1991 federal prosecutors did not find enough evidence after new York City Police shot 23yearold amadou diallo 41 times for reaching into his pocket. The Justice Department is looking at the entire Ferguson Police department to see if there is an overall pattern of discrimination. This meeting was attended not only by administration leaders, but student leaders as well as protesters who were inside the meeting holding signs. The board is unanimously voting on a zero tolerance policy for Sexual Assault crimes, and said that the suspension of fraternity activities here could go past january if satisfactory changes are not happening. The Rolling Stone article described a culture of permissiveness of Sexual Assault at uva and a 2005 Sexual Assault were a victim named jackie was the victim of a gang rape. This conduct will not be tolerated at university of virginia. The status quo is no longer acceptable. Jackies experience should not have happened, and nothing like it should ever happen again. Board members said today that the Virginia Attorney general will look at possible cases to state law to better deal with the issue of sexual abuse. Also, an independent law firm will be coming in and looking at possibly hoping to deal with cases of Sexual Assault at uva.
