Now, we talked to a witness earlier today one of the women who was working inside held the door open for him to let him come in. He had just a momentary thought. He didnt want to go into the building for some reason. Something told him to stay out. He turned to walk away. Thats when the explosion happened. Hes standing literally right outside when the explosion happened. Knocked him to his knees and injured one of the women working inside as well as the jeweller and another person. So exactly how this started but the man we were talking to is involved in the jewelry business. He says its not uncommon for a jeweller to have gas involved in the business. But the local stores abc 7 checked with said they are not expecting to receive hard copies until friday at the earliest. As karen traverse reports, now an alqaida affiliate in yemen is claiming responsibility for that terrorist attack. A symbolic poignant day across france. Its been exactly one week since two masked gunmen stormed the paris offices of Charlie Hebdo killing 10 stad two police officers. And today, the satirical weekly magazine published their next issue on time. People lined up before dawn waiting to pick up their copy featuring a cartoon image of the Prophet Muhammad on its cover. I wanted to find this magazine has been murdered last week. Charlie hebdo usually prints 60,000 copies of issue. This printing five million. And still, some were out of luck. Newsstands are quickly selling out of all their copies. Some Muslim Leaders in france and around the world blasted the new issue as a provocation and even an act of war. Charlie hebdos publishing comes on the same day that an alqaida affiliate in yemen in a new video claimed responsibility for last weeks horrific terror attack. This we believe likely came from a media wing. The latest example of the brutality that is really a calling card. Some Media Outlets like abc 7 chose to show that cover. Others are not. Our question of the day is asking if you think it should be reprinted or broadcast. Meanwhile, a federal judge is saying that the paris attacks are no reason to delay the Boston Marathon bombing trial. Dzhokhar tsarnaevs lawyers claimed potential jurors would draw parallels between those attacks. Tsarnaev is accused of killing three people and wounding 260 others in a bombing at the Boston Marathon in 2013. Jury selection is scheduled to resume tomorrow. Lawmakers introduced more than 1,000 bills before virginias General Assembly started session today and those bills include the measure that would require a majority vote in order to declare a winner in statewide elections. Without that there would be a runoff between the two top vote geters and another bill would prohibit Police Departments from establishing quotas for arrest or warrant. And a third, perhaps the most controversial, would nearly decriminalize marijuana in the commonwealth. There would be no jail Time Associated with the charge. But it would become a 100 fine. Northern Virginia Bureau chief Jeff Goldberg is in richmond today for us and well have a live report on that coming up at 5 00. Now this mornings session began with a disgraced delegate back in attendance. Delegate joseph morissey. You see him there. He was reelected by his constituents in a special election yesterday. The county lawmaker is serving a six month prison sentence right now as a matter of fact. Hes behind bars serving that sentence after prosecutors claimed that he had sex with a 17yearold employee and yet he will serve in the house of delegates as well at the same time. A maryland governorelect says that he wants to take a look in lowering polls once he takes office. Larry hogan will be sworn in next week. A look at how hogan may mesh with the General Assembly. All eyes this session will be on governorelect larry hogan the republican who won in november in a surprise upset over the democratic Lieutenant Governor anthony brown. Hogan won by hammering away on the issue of taxing and spending. And he comes into office at a time when the state is facing a 400 million budget shortfall meaning theres going to be a lot of drama, a lot of tough decisions about cuts in programs and cuts in aid to the localities. Well see how all that plays out. In the meantime, Senate President mike miller gives hogan high marks for pulling together a bipartisan cabinet. He will be much better than governor to deal with the General Assembly. He had been a congressman on capitol hill, no, on education. No on health care. No on the seniors and came here with that mentality and were going to do things differently. Governor hogan has come in and put his sector, hes from the middle, he has more democrats in his cabinet than republicans. Hes going to try to govern from the middle and hes reached out to myself this morning and reached to senator mikulski and had good relations with the former governor Martin Omalley and right now, hes doing everything right and saying everything right. And it could be that way for four years, who knows . Larry hogan gets sworn in one week from today. He served in the cabinet of bob urlich and many of the people weve spoken to expect him to learn from the mistakes that he made. He crashed with the Democratic Assembly for years and the expectation is hogan is going to do what he can to find common ground. In annapolis, abc 7 news. Montgomery county reporter kevin lewis is live outside of Rachel Carson Elementary School. That school sent home hundreds of letters today, right, kevin . Thats exactly right leon and those letters indicate the student was in a classroom here back on friday, december 19th. That, of course, was the last day of school before winter break began. Well today the Montgomery County Health Department did confirm that that student does have an illness often referred to as whooping cough. In other cases, the cough is so severe, it actually induces vomiting. Officials say the big take home point here should your child show any of these symptoms dont risk it. Call your family doctor. Its important to notify the parents any time theres anything, you know. Otherwise, we wouldnt know. Get it walking down the street. You can, you know get it anywhere you go. So theres not that you can do about it once its out there. Keep yourself healthy. It is worth pointing out it is treatable with antibiotics and we should mention that most students are vaccinated against it. On average, Montgomery County sees about 60 cases a year. Westbound braddock road at 123, there was a crash. Im bob emler with 103. 5 wtop radio. What a difference from the last time we had some snow come down here. Twohour delay helped. I kind of reversed that and came in two hours early today. Traffic was really easy. Thats good. Handled it very well. Conditions a little more concerned Southern Maryland northern neck. Area got by just fine. I want to start with a video of rehobeth beach delaware. Why . They had more snow than we had here. Thats not surprising. South and east and southeast of the city most of the snow would fall closer to the track rule system and a little snow but during the day, kind of melted from the bottom up. The ground temperatures still above freezing. Up through the boards and there you have it. Also a little closer to washington, George County and a little bit of snow. But in that part of king george nothing accumulated. When you got east of king George County across the potomac and into Charles County another inch or inch and a half of snow in some spots. Temperatures are cold but worked out pretty well here with minimal impact on traffic from the metro area at least. Southern maryland more problems. 1. 7 inches of. Most weve seen reported in calloway. Thats in northern st. Marys county. Culpepper, 1. 3 inches. An inch at stafford a little bit less. So here we go with the snow out of here and now we have a cloudy and cold wednesday afternoon. 27 in gaithersburg. 31 in quantico. 33 at Reagan National.
