Interesting case. Theyre big caps fans and they take their little one to the games all the time. They say they feel cheated by the National Hockey league. They dont know if theyll be able to attend the all star game this weekend in Columbus Ohio. Months ago, they bought tickets to the game for themselves. Booked a flight and hotel room to columbus. The problem is whether or not their 9monthold daughter will be able to get in. They have no one in columbus now to take care of the baby. They checked with the host team the Columbus Blue Jackets before they even purchased the tickets months ago about whether the baby would need a seat. They were told infants were considered lap children and dont need a ticket. Earlier this week a couple of days ago, the nhl sent out a notice saying that every person including infants require a ticket. They can sell a ticket to an adult who is going to buy concessions and buy merchandise and sell that to somebody as opposed to my daughter who would probably fold up in the folding seat. Thats a very interesting point, isnt it . So what did they do . They packed up this morning, hopped a flight with their daughter out of Reagan National to columbus. They intend to go to the game and somehow get their daughter in the arena with them. So theyre in columbus right now. Well tell you how things developed. There is a development. For now, the pavement is dry even though were getting some reports of some scattered precipitation around the region but temperatures well above freezing and on river road weve had a close in both directions between little falls and western for water main work and were getting some information from Montgomery County police, some traffic may be getting by already. If not just down the road here. Southbound on i95 it slows down a bit over the occoquan from stafford heading southward from quantico towards stafford, i should say, traveling south. Generally a pretty good ride out there as we take a look at some cameras. Usual delays headed north on 270. Very slow, headed up through germantown. Nothing unusual here. As you can see the roads look good and the same on 66 in both directions. A little bit of volume out to centreville with all lanes open. Im bob emler with wtop radio. Everybody rushing home early to beat the weather. Let me say something, my kids tell me im starting to repeat myself that im going to do it intentionally this time. Yesterday we talked and i mentioned the snow and the mix today and the snow monday morning the clipper. Ill repeat, this much bigger system were facing now will have a smaller impact, lesser impact on the metro area than the smaller system monday that will have a bigger impact. Its because of temperatures right . Because it will be snow on monday. And a mix now. So with that said did i tell you about the no. Lets get into it. The temperatures . Winter weather advisory up through noon tomorrow. This is in the purple periwinkle colors and in the pink areas, primarily centered along and north and west of interstate 81 thats a winter storm warning. This is the advisory south of stafford and spotsylvania, and beyond no advisories because its too warm. That will be mostly rain. Well have this issue back and forth and its definitely visible right now. Snow well north and west pretty much toward the 81 corridor with the transition zone of a little sleet with rain mixed in and mostly rain. This is just the leading edge of the precipitation. The entire precipitation shield from this system extends well back to the southwest of us for hundreds and hundreds of miles. Air temperatures, anything that falls right now in the upper 30s, lower 40s is melting. So and most of what we have now is very very light around the area. However, down to the south and southwest, youre starting to see things fill in. A little yellow areas with the heavier rain maybe a few pockets of sleet in spots. All this will expand northeastward through our area later tonight overnight to early tomorrow morning. Late computer models suggests a lot of the precip tags will be out of here by 7 00 or 8 00 in the morning. So what will happen between now and then . Its due to this low pressure area in the gulf moving northward. The temperatures at the surface and overhead will determine what kind of precipitation well get and therefore, that will determine how much of the precipitation well be able to measure. Futurecast, areas of green, later this evening, rain and then areas of mix and purple color farther north and west some snow. This sinlt the, you know absolutely the way its going to happen. This is a representation by computer model. Whats interesting is how much rain is showing yellow here that during the overnight hours could affect metro areas and push out. Some heavy rain at times and look by early in the morning, most of it shifts east with some leftover rain and then the snow continues in the mountains and Higher Elevations. Our western suburbs continue to get sleet and a mix. And then through the afternoon, everything kicks out of herement we get sunshine across the area and clearing skies. Not too long off that we get into the mode for sundays weather. Mostly rain south and east of the area. Up to the inch, based on the projection north and west of the city zone of one to two slushy mushy stuff in the much Higher Elevations of the mountains. If it winds up being colder maybe the totals will come up higher. We dont think so. This is the way its going to be and very quickly transition to the outlook for sunday night and monday with the Alberta Clipper giving us a 70 chance of snow. That could have an impact on the rush hour monday morning. And then clearing and Colder Weather through the rest of the week. Speaking of monday morning, special 4 00 a. M. Early start time to good morning washington on monday morning with jackie jeras and the team will get you updated. After a quite quiet winter so far, you notice howpicking up. Did you order that .
