Theres a new debate brewing over whether vaccinations should be mandatory after more than 100 cases in 14 states. That debate reached capitol hill today. Medical experts on capitol hill today didnt mince words. Vaccines save lives. Echoing the scientific and medical consensus that vaccinations are safe and has no known link to autism. Slam dunk with decisions. The pace of measles cases this year have been striking. One month into the new year and the number of cases is nearly 1 6 of last years total shining a spotlight on a controversial divide between parents who vaccinate their children and those who dont. My older son had difficulties with some of the vaccine. We had one shot that he hadnt been able to walk for two days and i was concerned that he could possibly develop autism. Recently comments by two top potential republican candidates for president poured fuel on the fire. While in support of vaccinations both argue its a decision for parents to make. I heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccine. Parents need to have some measure of choice in things as well. Thats the balance the government has to decide. The spike in measles cases is troubling as medical experts say there is a risk that measles could reestablish itself in the united states. So far we havent had any cases of measles in d. C. Maryland or virginia. That doesnt mean that parents arent talking about it. It is a hot topic with everyone from parents to politicians. Whether children should be vaccinated. Im working on a story and talking to one local group that says it should be up to a parent to make that decision. Ill also be talking with a parent who is trying to decide what is best for her children. Ill have that story coming up at 5 00. So our question of the day is asking what you think about this vaccination issue. Should it be the Parents Choice . Or should a vaccination be mandatory . Now, to a developing story out of the middle east where it appears that islamic militants have killed that jordanian pilot they were holding hostage. Senior political reporter scott thuman has reaction for us now. Scott . Early this afternoon, islamic militants released another of those horrible execution videos. This one which we will not broadcast shows what appears to be the jordanian Fighter Pilot in a cage on a street and being burned alive. Now, jordan had been working to free possibly through a prisoner swap the 26yearold lieutenant who had been captured back in december when his f16 crashed in sishyria. He was flying as part of the u. S. Led coalition forces. Isil claimed they shot down the jet and took them hostage. The video is 20 minutes in length and the language in it according to analysts is aimed at pressuring jordan to get out of that coalition. Instead tonight, jordan is vowing revenge and in fact this may actually amp up the effort by syrias neighbor. Heres president obamas reaction today. Should this video be authentic, its one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity of this organization. And it i think will redouble the vigilance and determination on the part of our Global Coalition to make sure that they are degraded and ultimately defeated. And it also just indicates the degree to which whatever ideology theyre operating off of its bankrupt. All of this comes just three days after another video one that showed the beheading of a japanese journalist who had been held hostage. Another quick note here. During these negotiations in which jordan seemed willing to iraqi woman, a convicted terrorist they were holding to get the lieutenant back. They had been asking for proof of life. Apparently they werent getting that from isil. Thats part of what may led to this unfortunate ending. Or some believe its possible that the pilot was killed quite sometime ago and that isil just released the video today. Alison . Ok, scott, thank you. Right now, people across new england are digging out after being socked in by snow. The region was hit by about two feet of snow last week and then more last friday and then a third storm hit yesterday. And thats left plenty of people stuck in their houses or bundling up to try to get outside. Some are taking it all in stride. This was bang, bang, bang. Look at the roofs and look at the houses around the banks. You cant pull out on the street. Its dangerous out there. After a while, you get used to it. Boston was supposed to host a victory parade for the new England Patriots today for the teams super bowl win but the mayor pushed that back until tomorrow because of the storm cleanup and even then mayor martin walsh is asking fans not to climb on snow banks and dress appropriately for the weather if they go out for the parade. Meanwhile, back here we only saw some rain here. That was followed by a bitter chill and whipping winds outside. Thats right. And in Silver Spring that wind launched a tree right into a house. While the residents were on the phone with 911. That 911 call was released halfhour ago and Stephen Tschida is live along woodley avenue inside the beltway to let us hear this. Hey, stephen. Hi, alison. You can see this massive tree behind me came crashing down on this house as the occupant chris fisher was on the phone with 911 listening into this 911 call it captures the sound of this massive tree as it hit the house. About to fall on my house. Its actually falling on my house right now. Hold on one second. Yea, it just fell on my house. Yeah, that sound recorded on that 911 call of that massive tree. Fisher heard from his neighbor that it looked like the tree was going to fall. A branch had come down. He had gone to the right side of the house, the opposite side of the house to make that 911 call. He spoke with us a short while ago about what it sounded like and what went through his mind when that tree came down. Almost like kind of like a small earthquake and it shook the house and scared the dog. It was definitely, you know something that you dont feel every day. Right over there. There you can see just what that is that is chris fisher there with friends. It was he his wife and their dog in the home. Now, they do say they expect its going to be at least several months before they will be allowed to return to this home. But again, because of those warnings from a neighbor and seeing that branch come down, they were able to retreat to the other side of the house and they are not harmed. Reporting live Stephen Tschida abc 7 news. Thanks stephen. They were so lucky they were awake when it happened and not the middle of the night. Exactly. In the next couple of nights we have jupiter flying a little bit higher in the sky for a couple of nights. Temperaturewise, its cold here but not brutally so. Were in the mid 30s and the numbers are seven, eight nine degrees below average. It was so much more enjoyable without the strong winds today. Tonight, 26. Getting a good deal on line is what many of us set out searching for but if it seems too good to be true listen to this. Autria godfrey shows us one comment targeted an Online Community thats typically very trusting. Tim is an avid gun collector who thought hed found the great deal on line. The collectible was 20 less than the going rate so he quickly contacted the seller by phone. This guy knew his firearms. Tim was eager to get the item before it got away. As requested, he sent the seller a postal money order for 1,000. I hadnt heard from him in four or five days so i tried to contact him. And the number that i had went straight to voicemail so i emailed and kept doing this for a few days afterwards and just nothing ever came of it. Tim had been duped and he wasnt alone. Postal inspectors were already investigating dozens of similar complaints. In every case the person had bid on this particular auction item and never received their products. Investigators soon realized all the complaints were against the same person. Paul Steven Webster who kept creating new accounts. Webster would rack up about 10,000 and handful of victims. He would then close that account out, open a new one and the con would continue. Piece of advice for postal inspectors if you send money orders through the mail get the recipients signature. That piece of information was key in busting webster. I had a tracking number. I had a signature of the person w
