Joce alison the clock is ticking inside the statehouse and theyre down to 7 45 if they want to get a bill pushed through and the delegate has a stunner here. She introduced a bill that tries to close a loophole that lets rapists seek custody rights. Thats getting a spotlight on it thanks to the show comedy central. Weve seen clips on you tube recently. The show publicly shames states including maryland for not closing that loophole. The delegate has been trying to do that for seven years. Shes proposed a bill that would limit a rapists rights to custody if the mother can show clear evidence of the crime and if the court says it is in the best interest of the child. Now, survivors advocates have been fighting this one too. Despite support from the Catholic Church and right to life associations road blocks means this bill likely will not make it past this session. It breaks my heart well are to tell that survivor and well have to tell survivors in the future theyll probably have to wait one more year before the courts get on board.
