Unaccounted for. A man his wife and their four young grandchildren. The house, built to look like a castle was so big, the fire so intense that as it burned it pancaked in upon itself and all that material is still smoldering. Were still in Fire Suppression activities. What that means is firefighters havent even been able to start looking for the residents of the home believed to have been home. And the fire started at about 3 00 a. M. So far, the occupants remain unaccounted for. The home belongs to tech executive don pyle and his wife sandra. Firefighters have been told they were home this morning along with four grandchildren. Colleagues at his Reston Company told us only that pyle wasnt at work today and they are hoping for a miracle. At the fire scene, several pyle family members clearly grieving declined to comment. Neighbors say they can only hope for the best. When they built the castle they had a sense of humor about it. There was a suit of armor in one area. You dont expect nice good people bad things to happen to them. Can only pray and worry and hope for the best. Certainly way too soon to know anything about a cause for this fire. We do know that there were smoke alarms in there because it was an automated call from the smoke alarm system that brought firefighters here in the first place. Now, this fire ground is so big that county authorities have asked for some federal help, a special a. T. F. Response team is on the way. Theyre going to lead the hunt for these possible presumed victims. But were told that theyre not going to get their specialized equipment that they feel they need here until sometime tomorrow. A Tech Company Founder is behind bars tonight charged with murder. Police say 38yearold min juen shot and killed his exwifes new husband. It happened on thursday in the Ashburn Village community. Police say two children were in the home at the time. He is being held in the Loudoun CountyAdult Detention Center without bond. He is the cofounder of the contact management and social networking startup. Montgomery county police are investigating graffiti sprayed on a chevy chase home as a hate crime. Police say the racial slur combined with the phrase go home was sprayed on the garage door on a home in the 3300 block of glenmore drive. A neighbor noticed it this morning. The vandals could have struck any time after 2 00 yesterday afternoon. Its been one week since the deadly smoke incident on the yellow line of metro. And today, friends and family held a memorial for 61yearold carol glover. The alexandria woman died of smoke inhalation as she waited to be rescued. Remembered as a devout woman with an unconditionable love for her family and friends. If theres anything that wed like to say to everyone in d. C. Is that my mother lived a great life. And everything that she did here was for others. Glovers mother told the congregation carols death was for a purpose to make a change. Virginia Governor Terry mauliffe is in the hospital tonight recovering from several broken ribs after he was thrown from a horse. The governor was on vacation in tanzania when it happened last month. Governor was admitted to u. V. A. Medical center for complications from those injuries. Doctors found fluids around his lungs. Doctors successfully completed a procedure to remove it. The governor sent out a tweet tonight saying he expects to be back on the job in two to three days. Workers across the country are getting higher pay this month after several states raised their minimum wage. But it looks like virginia will not follow suit. A Senate Committee shot down a proposal today to raise workers wages. Northern Virginia Bureau chief Jeff Goldberg is live in alexandria tonight with the reason and reaction. Maureen, that measure failing badly in that Senate Committee by a vote of 113 today. Now, heres what supporters are trying to change. Right now, the virginia minimum wage which is also the federal minimum wage comes in at 7. 25 an hour. That leads to an annual salary of just more than 15,000 a year. Now, while opponents did win the day today, supporters say they hope the fight continues. At this cafe inalexandria the owner knows the state minimum wage is 7. 25 an hour. He just chooses to ignore it. We believe that thats the right thing to do. He starts employees at 9 an hour and raises can come fast. He believes paying people more leads to better employees and better service. I live in this community. And i hire people in this community and i know how much it is to live in this community. To me its a no brainer. Five different bills are on the table in richmond this session to hike the minimum wage in virginia including one to raise it to 8 an hour this year followed by increases over the next two years. Across the country, 29 states mandate a minimum wage higher than the federal level with 20 of those states maryland included increasing rates in the past year.
