Nearly three dozen people face charges after police in new york and new jersey after what they describe as a major auto theft ring. 27 of more than 160 cars uncovered in the investigation were car jacked. Just before christmas, a car jacker killed Dustin Friedman right in front of his wife at the mall, to take his car. It is part after carjacking epidemic. Police broke up a sophisticated carjacking ring. Accused of swiping more than 8 million worth of high end cars. Even allegedly pistol whipping some of their victims. More than two dozen people in jail. They will get what they deserve. The cars were stolen in new jersey and new york to be shipped all the way to west africa. These are some of the 160 stolen cars seized and we are told in west africa, they would have sold for a whole lot more than theyre worth. This mercedes sells for 94 thousand here. In west africa, it would fetch 30 more. That demand and new technology that makes cars impossible to hot wire, are fuelling those crimes. It is probably the compliment to the Car Companies here, is this they made it so it youve to steal a car in the conventional manner, they need the key.
