Ward rushed to a nearby emergency room but died from his injuries. This is an ongoing investigation. And we are looking at any information that is relevant to the crash. First responders say riders were sitting upright, a few had cramps, back pain, dehydration, but there were no major injuries. Abcs jeff zeleny has the latest on this frightening ordeal. Reporter a wild ride becomes a wild rescue. 24 people suspended for hours. High above the Six Flags Theme Park<\/a> just outside washington. They call it the jokers jinx, a roller coaster from 060 in three seconds. Watch here in this theme park video. The ride twists and turns with no pauses or brakes. Six train cars abruptly stopped. Leaving passengers stranded at least 75 feet in the air. Fire fighters reached the riders, handing out food, water and umbrellas to shade them from the blistering sun. From the scene, fire chief marc bashoor tweeted this will be a long term rescue. He tells abc news there are no early signs of injuries. More than three hours after their ordeal began the rescue started. It took hours, stretching into the night. One by one, passengers lifted to safety in a towering ladder truck. A carefree summer day at the park suddenly becoming anything but. Jeff zeleny, abc news, washington. That must have been quite a harrowing experience for them. Stranded there for hours in the heat, not knowing when, help was coming. So hot there. 75 feet up. And i have never seen this before. But they actually handed out umbrellas to the passengers while waiting up there. So they could shield the sun. Five hours, that ride is normally 56 seconds. Under a minute. They were up there a heck of a long time. Unclear why it got trapped, stuck there at the top of the ride. Thankfully wasnt upside down. Officials say computer glitches sometimes make it stop. Hopefully figure that out again. Breaking news now from suburban st. Louis where looting and vandalism has broken out. Some people seen smashing store windows and carrying away merchandise. Some streets were lined with cops and riot gear being yelled at and taunted by angry residents. The violence followed a protest over the death of an unarmed teen by police. Still plenty of questions this morning about the weekends car racing tragedy in upstate new york. That one left one young driver dead. 20yearold kevin ward jr. Crashed saturday night in the small dirt racetrack. He jumped out of his car, pointing in the direction of three time nascar champ tony stewart, you saw him there. Stewarts passing car struck ward killing him. Just an unbelievable tragedy. Our hearts go out to obviously kevin and his family. Stewart pulled out of yesterdays nascar race. Authorities called him visibly shaken as they questioned him about the incident. The sheriff says there is no evidence to support any criminal intent. But the charges havent been ruled out. Tony has done the exact same thing as kevin ward jr. Did over the weekend. In fact, the history of car racing is full of similar examples, drivers getting out of their cars, to confront another. Abcs paula faris reports. Reporter road rage its an alltoofamiliar scene in the world of racing. A sport where tempers can flare. This is not what the series needs nor either one of these drivers. Mixing it up in the pits there. Drivers routinely put themselves in harms way because experts say thats the nature of the sport. But sometimes it goes too far. Get to the back bumper.
