If someone believes me or not, i have no control over it. Reporter all along, hes maintained his innocence. Now at 36 years old, after spending more than half his life in jail, a judge signed an order for a new trial. The conviction is erased. Its gone. Hes not, as of this date, hes not convicted anytime. Reporter in the order, the judge cites the defenses decision to not crossamen a states witness over cell tower evidence. Why the defense had not spoken to a possible alibi witness. If there was some technicality that would then prove his innocence, great, you know . Reporter but i think asia, like you might be that technicality. Reporter asia mcclain, a classmate of syeds says she was the time prosecutors allege lee was killed. Do i think adnan killed hai, i couldnt tell you. I think we have a very compelling case that if thats what we try to do, that hes not a flight risk. And he is not a danger to the community. And therefore, he should be allowed out on bail. Would you be getting this retrial right now without the podcast . Its undeniable that its generated so much interest in the case and so much new investigation. That i would say, but for the podcast serial, we would not be sitting where we are today. And whats challenge Going Forward in the retrial . No guarantees. No, i mean, its a its a new trial. I think even before we get to that stage, though, its possible if not likely that the state would want to appeal. The judges decisions. But were pretty confident that the opinion is very solid and its based on the facts. Its based on the law. And, um you know, we feel pretty good about the fact that it will hold up in the Appellate Court ps zplp what is the number one move youre going to make that wasnt made in the original trial . As the judge pointed out in his opinion, there are substantial questions about the reliability of the cell tower evidence that the state introduced at trial. And, it would be a nobrainer for us to try to initially fete that thrown out. Are you confident your client didnt commit this murder . I am. Ive been representin almost eight years now. Surrender means losing. Just being a professional athlete works against the process. If Johnny Manziel were serious, what we would see is forget about the fourgame suspension, im sitting out next season. Im going the rehab . Absolutely. Probably, he would just drop out. Reemerge a healthy man and pursue an active career. In the meantime, his life is in jeopardy. Im wondering, should his team do that for him and just say, you know, lets do it right.
