Down. What he says the league knew all along only on gma. So crazy in love and beyonce and jay z expecting twins. The superstar family growing by two. Fans crazy in love with the news. This photo of the big reveal breaking a huge social media record. Her message about motherhood this morning. Your loves got me looking so crazy right now and good morning, america. Could not miss it on twitter or instagram yesterday. Yes, she is set to have twins, blue ivy will be a big sister. Well have a lot about that later. We have a lot of breaking news to get to first. The president calling out australia and iran overnight. More on that in a moment. Yeah, the president s tweets continued through the morning. Very tough talk both iran and australia are re violent protests erupting at uc berkeley. The campus locked down as more than a thousand rallied against the appearance of a controversial editor from breitbart, Milo Yiannopoulos. They escalated and the speech was canceled and President Trump weighed in again. Kayna whitworth has all the latest from berkeley. Reporter good morning. It was a terrifying night. Campus police issuing a shelter in place order after College Republicans invited Milo Yiannopoulos to speak. Now, behind me this is a police generator that was knocked over and set on fire when these protests turned into a riot. Overnight, mayhem on campus. The university of californiaberkeley erupting in flames as over a thousand came out to protest an appearance by the selfdescribed right wing Internet Troll Milo Yiannopoulos. We will not tolerate racism or sexism or hate crimes and violence. He is a fascist and berkeley did not welcome him. Reporter at least s injured including this trump supporter who was pepper sprayed. The university canceling the speech. Riot police even retreating to the building for safety. You can hear them urging the crowds to leave. I think we have a right to say that we dont want him here. And reporter the standoff intensifying as protesters lit fireworks. Police firing back. Its going too far right now. This is uncalled for. This is not going to get no message around. Reporter yiannopoulos an editor for Breitbart News and avid supporter of President Trump responding on facebook posting this video. Because i was threatened. Might take some people with him. They have to shut it down at all costs. Reporter President Trump taking to twitter asking the question no federal uc berkeley does not allow free speech. Thank you, kayna. President trump escalating tensions overseas. This time australia on twitter. This after recent heated phone call with the mrPrime Minister there. Cecilia vega has all the details. Reporter good morning from australia to now iran, the president is on a twitter spree and he is not mincing words, diplomacy in 140 characters or less. Overnight President Trump swearing in Rex Tillerson as the nations top diplomat. This is where you were meant to be, right here, today at this crossro crossroads in history. Reporter but just a few hours later taking diplomacy into his own hands tweeting, do you believe it . The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of Illegal Immigrants from australia. Why . I will study this dumb deal. That deal aiming to resettle refugees not undocumented immigrants from two Pacific Islands into the u. S. Trump discussed the deal during a 25minute phone call with the australian Prime Minister on saturday. Hours after his executive order banning some refugees into the u. S. Indefinitely. The call with one of americas closest allies reportedly ending abruptly when turnbull pressed trump to honor the deal. I can assure you the relationship is very strong, but as australians know me very well, i stand up for australia in every forum, public or private. Reporter a diplomatic shakeup from this new white house now also taking on iran. National security adviser Michael Flynn in a surprise Briefing Room appearance on wednesday delivering this stern warning. As of today, we are officially putting iran on notice. Reporter flynn saying all options are on the table after irans test of yet another Ballistic Missile and what of actions. Iran continues to threaten u. S. Friends and allies in the region. Reporter and flynn left that briefing without taking any questions but President Trump did take to twitter to taunt iran late last night in a series of predawn tweets, one saying iran has been norm formally put on notice for firing a Ballistic Missile. Should have been thank ft. Lauderdale for that terrible deal made with them. A response from a Senior Iranian official coming in saying iran does not need permission from any country to defend itself, robin. Thank you. Going to turn to abc chief Global Affairs correspondent martha raddatz. So much to talk about, martha. Lets start with iran. What are you hearing there . Reporter well, donald trump made no secret of wanting to toughen the relationship, robin, with iran, even as a candidate saying if the iranians made a gesture to our sailors in the persian gulf where there have definitely been provocative moves in the past they will be shot out of the water. He said that last september. And now iran has made provocative move with its Ballistic Missile test and theyre certainly making bold moves in iraq. So the statement by flynn and the late night tweet by the president should not be surprising. But what does it mean in terms of a response . The white house says they are looking at several options as cecilia said and did not rule out military options which doesnt mean theyre going to make a military move but iran now knows the gun is on the table. Late night tweets continuing this morning. Lets move on to australia. What are you hearing about that reported contentious phone call between President Trump and the Prime Minister of australia . Reporter well, the difference here, robin, as you know, australia is an ally, but ally or adversary its Prime Minister just learned firsthand what the rest of the world is quickly realizing, President Trump is like no president before him. He does not use the delicate language of diplomacy, even if you are considered a friend. What the president wants in his temporary refugee ban since these refugees australia wants to send here are largely from iraq and iran. There was a moment from yesterday when the president and his daughter ivanka making the trip to the air force base to see the fallen s. E. A. L. There, the fallen navy s. E. A. L. That was quite a moment. Reporter very somber occasion for any president , robin. He did not announce the trip to dover beforehand. But went with daughter ivanka to the dignified transfer for the remains of navy s. E. A. L. William ryan owens, owens family did not want cameras there but we know President Trump did speak to the family at dover and he did call them over the weekend, as well. Owens killed, of course, in that raid in yemen. Thats right, all right, martha, thank you. More now on the president s pick for the supreme court. Judge neal gorsuch. With democrats promising to filibuster his nomination he told republicans to do whatever it takes to get him confirmed. Take a if we end up with that, i would say if you can, do it. Because that would be an absolute shame if a man of this quality was caught up in the web so i would say its up to mitch but i would say go for it. Mary bruce on capitol hill, jon karl at the white house. Mary, let me begin with you talking about Mitch Mcconnell, the Senate Republican leader. This Nuclear Option would basically change the senate rules so he could get confirmed with just republican votes, 51 votes. Reporter george, the pressure this morning on Mitch Mcconnell is huge. The president with those two words, go nuclear, telling him to do whatever he has to do, even change those rules if necessary to prevent democrats from blocking his nominee. Now, mcconnell has not revealed his next move but hes known as a stickler for those rules, not inclined to change them but democrats may leave him little option here, Chuck Schumer is saying he has serious concerns about gorsuch and Many Democrats and, jon, on that the democrats are caught in a little bit of a box right there as well. Do they really want to go through and push this to the wall and get that change in the rules . Reporter well, ill tell you, the president laying it on the line there yesterday saying that Mitch Mcconnell should go nuclear if he needs to. Actually was not on message for the republicans. They had been trying to say that they could get this through without changing the rules, without using the socalled Nuclear Option by making the case to democrats that this was a highly qualified nominee, somebody that is beyond reproach as far as the republicans are concerned and only to do that Nuclear Option if it really came to that. This is a tough battle for both but i can tell you that the republicans were a little bit taken off guard by what the president himself said. Didnt want it to come to this too soon and the president facing questions about his education secretary nominee betsy devos. The billionaire from michigan and, mary, two important key re yesterday. Reporter george, betsy devos could be the first confirmation casualty here on capitol hill. Two republican senators saying they simply cannot support her. Theyre the first republicans to come out and oppose one of trumps pick, senator collins from maine and senator murkowski from alaska have serious questions about her lack of experience especially when it comes to the Public School system and the kicker here, george, is that this could mean that Vice President mike pence might have to be the tiebreaking vote and that would be the first time that a Vice President has ever used that power for a confirmation vote. That is assuming all other republicans hold the line and, jon karl, white house pretty confident of that. Reporter im told they have done the whip count and all the other republicans will be there at least right now saying they will support betsy devos and that includes, george, senator and soontobe attorney general jeff sessions. Democrats had delayed a vote on his confirmation still in the senate. He has not voted. He had said that he would abstain from voting until he becomes attorney general and then passes the senate seat on so the fact that democrats actually delayed his confirmation is actually meaning that he will be there to cast what would be the decisive vote for betsy devos. And, you have this threat from the president this morning, that tweet about the protests at uc berkeley suggesting maybe federal funds could get cut off. Could he do that. Reporter its a great question. I dont know the details on that but the threat does not surprise me at all and when the white house sees those images, they think that this actually shows that their opposition is out of control and dont mind that from a political standpoint. Okay, jon karl, mary bruce, thanks very much. We move on from politics now to a tense standoff at a delaware prison. Youre looking live at the james t. Vaughn Correctional Center where inmates took four prison employees hostage on wednesday. Two of them are still being held this morning. Prisons around that state are now on lockdown. Abcs eva pilgrim is there good morning, eva. Reporter good morning, robin. Its been more than 20 hours since prisoners took control of one building here at this Correctional Center. They have released two hostages as well. Some of their fellow prisoners, there are still two prison employees being held inside. This morning, prisoners revolt taking four correctional employees hostage at this delaware prison. Hey, theyre at my neck right now with a knife if you dont hurry up and turn these phones on now. Reporter it began at 10 32 when a staff member radioed for assistance in a building that helped more than 100 inmates. Officers responded quickly to the scene and began negotiations to free the hostages. Tell us how you want them to come out. They coming outside now. Crack the door. Let them come straight out to the middle of the yard. At this point Correctional Officers responded to assist and the facility was placed on lockdown. Reporter roads around the prison blocked off. Images from above showing heavily armed s. W. A. T. Teams and armored cars gathering in groups in the prison yard. Everybody is just waiting for everybody to come out. Everything you asked for is right there for you, man. Are we moving forward . Were moving forward . Back away from the door. Reporter some fellow prisoners and hostages released hours later. One guard hit multiple times and the other bleeding from stab wounds. At this point we do not know if there are any other injuries or persons injured. Reporter the governor of delaware called it a long and difficult day. And now looking live you can see some of those prisoners laying on their stomachs there on the ground. The prison still in lockdown. This morning they are continuing those negotiations. Authorities say they are hoping for a peaceful ending, guys. Yeah, we all are. Thank you. This is what it looked like when the swissair flight bound for los angeles landed on a snowy Remote Canadian island. Stuck in this plane for about, what, four hours now, five hours. Getting a left engine malfunction message and diverting for safety. They told us not to panic. We saw fuel coming out of the wings and it happened fast. The rockiest part was the landing. Reporter passenger lee yoi sanchez said they were forced to wait on the tarmac for more than 12 hours while the temperature outside dipped to minus 18 degrees fahrenheit. We rescue plane s we dont know how far it is. Nobody has left the plane. So were stuck in here. Reporter so the mayor of that town wanted to take the passengers for a tour while they were waiting.
