The fire started wednesday afternoon fueled by steady winds and bonedry brush that hadnt burned in seven years. It exploded from 300 acres to 5,000 acres in about three hours. It then doubled in size overnight, scorching 10,000 acres and more than a dozen struck qhurs. Oh, there it goes. We didnt think it was coming this way then instantedly whole mountain caught on fire. Lindsey graham gramson of our cbs affiliate is in jerome, missouri. How significant is the damage . Floods have ripped through the southwestern region of the state. The fouryearold boy was trapped in his mothers car as waters rushed in. Authorities continue to search for the boys mother. This area has seen as much as 15 inches of rain in the last two days alone. The t river here in jerome crested at 32 feet, its highest level ever recorded. Up to 40 homes have been completely flooded. We spoke with residents who had to evacuate their homes. Witnesses described chaos as the gunman walked through the building leaving blood and bodies in his wake. And last month in miami the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department found three of 33 policeinvolved shootings were unjustified. Some people would argue, though, that by asking for this review its undermining the authority of the officers who are out there and second guessing what it is that theyve done . I think our job is to second guess. I think our job is to review. Our job is to evaluate. And thats what we have to do.
