Reporter thats right, mary. We have now learn said that that classaction lawsuit has been filed against Johns Hopkins hospital. Following the investigation of a dr. Nikita levy, who was allegedly recording his patients during examinations. And we also know this is not the only lawsuit expected to come. Reporter hundreds if not thousands of women are still waiting to see if they were secretly videotaped by dr. Niceelta lev nikita levy, as they were examined by the Johns Hopkins gynecologist. Like how would i even know . Its just totally shocking. Reporter its a case that rocked maryland. Attention, patients of dr. Nikita levy at Johns Hopkins. Reporter now, attorneys are jumping. Theres been a lack of communication from Johns Hopkins. Reporter because of the enormity of the case, the firm has rented a Conference Room in downtown baltimore, to let victims know what rights they have under such circumstances. You have the right not to have been videotaped or photographed without your consent. And there is no justification for an exception to that. Two, now that its happened, you have a right to have open lines of communication, with the hospital. Reporter Johns Hopkins hospital has remained tight lipped about the investigation, only releasing this statement, saying, quote, an invasion of privacy is intolerable. Dr. Levys behavior violates the code of conduct policies and is against everything for which Johns Hopkins medicine stands. Its disgusting. You gotta trust these people. And you cant trust them. Reporter dr. Nikita levy was found dead after committing suicide. Officials with Johns Hopkins revealed the Ongoing Investigation against them, two weeks after they learned what he was allegedly doing during his examinations. Reporter a spokesperson said dr. Levy was dismissed from the staff earlier this month. He reportedly sent a letter to his patients, saying he was no longer with the hospital. But he never said why. Reporter tomorrows conference is the first time possible victims of dr. Levy will be in one room with one fear. I may have been violated. Reporter and again, we are learning that a classaction lawsuit has been filed against Johns Hopkins hospital, following these allegations against dr. Levy. Two bodies are found inside a car. And a car fire in the mondawmin neighborhood. That discovery was made early this morning in the 2100 block of north monroe street by baltimore firefighters. The victims names have not been released. The cause of the fire and deaths is under investigation. Incredible recovery. A Police Recruit shot in the head during a Training Exercise is released from shock trauma. Wjz is live there now. Meghan mccorkell has the details on what is next for the victim. Meghan . Reporter sources tell wjz that source worker, not identified, has now been transferred to a rehab facility. His recovery is being called remarkable. Reporter 10 days ago, a university of Maryland Police trainee was rushed to a state police helicopter, suffering a gunshot wound to the head. He immediately went into surgery at shock trauma. He is stable. But any thoughts or predictions about longterm neurologic outcome at this point are way, way, way too early. Reporter the recruit was shot by his training officer, William Scott kern, whois mistook his Service Weapon for a training weapon, during an exercise inside the training center. Now, sources tell wjz, that trainee is talking a little bit and is even able to recognize people. Police commissioner Anthony Batts has visited his bedside. Doctors have told me he is progressing better than they expected. However, they say this is going to be a long road. And when you have the kind of injuries that he has sustained, you can never be too sure were out of the woods at this point in time. Reporter six officers in the command have been suspended. A wjz investigation has revealed a lack of staffing and supervision. And that leadership didnt even know the old hospital site was being used for training. The Maryland State Police is now conducting an investigation into what happened. Reporter and we know the trainee that was shot is in his 40s. His family has asked that he not be identified. Live from shock trauma, meghan mccorkell, wjz Eyewitness News. More than a dozen officers were undergoing training when that shooting happened. Some clues in the mystery surrounding the burger cookies shortage. They have been closed for operating without a license. The cherry hill bakery hasnt made deliveries in weeks. But it may soon start again. Earlier today, they approved a license for the bakery, according to berger cookies website. It suspended operations, due to a family illness. According to our media partner, the baker is currently in the intensive care unit at a local hospital. Shes a long way from being a political household name. But thats now changing for laura newman. Today, she was sworn in as Anne Arundel County executive. Alex demetrick attended that ceremony. Reporter talk about a quick turnaround. Laura newman has gone from a virtually political unknown to claiming the top job in the county. Reporter Laura Neumann greeted friends, well wishers and employees. Thursday night, she was chosen by the county council to be the new county executive, beating out a large field of candidates, some of whom have more experience in politics. Certainly a nontraditional choice. And i will serve them proudly. It doesnt hurt that shes got a record of really making changes that are necessary when she feels they need to be measmed be made. Reporter changes that come in the wake of the criminal imiks of john leopold. Im fairly certain that he did some of the things he was convicted of. Laura neumann was voted in on the third ballot, cast by the county council. A big announcement from the ravens today. After 15 years in the nfl, six time pro bowler, matt birk, is retiring. The Ravens Center doesnt really like to be the center of attention. So he made his announcement doing something very close to his heart. Helping children learn to read. Announcing his retirement after 15seasons in the nfl. To have the honor of playing here for four years and playing under coach harbaugh and his staff, was it was truly an honor. Reporter birk, a harford graduate, made the announcement, surrounded by students at Battle Grove Elementary School in dundalk, where his Hike Foundation will build a new reading center. Anat was part of another special announcement he had for a student he had formed a very special bond with this year. Fifth grader larry bryant. Olympian Oscar Pistorius is out on bail tonight. This morning, the blade runner posted bail. Prosecutors insisted he was a flight risk, but the judge disagrees. Reporter photographers crowded around the range rover, carrying paralympickian paralympian Oscar Pistorius. He is facing trial for the valentines day shooting of his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp. A camera follows the car all the way to his uncles home. The ruling said that he could not return to his own house, which was the scene of the crime. Prosecutors charged him with premeditated murder, saying he intended to kill the 29year old model, when he shot four times through a bathroom door, after a heated argument. But the doubleamputee claims he accidentally shot steenkamp, believing she was an intruder. I come to the conclusion that the accused has made a case to be released on bail. Reporter pistorius supporters cheered in court. And his family says theyre relieved. We know oscars version of what happened. That tragic night. And we know that that is the truth. And that will prevail. Reporter a spokesman for the grieving steenkamp says the family doesnt know what to feel. Whatever happens, its not going to bring reeva back. You know . I just want justice and the truth. Reporter pistorius was ordered to turn in his passports and any guns he owns. The athlete will have to report back in two weeks. Pistorius was also ordered to stay away from all alcohol and all witnesses in the case. He is confined to pretorria, unless he gets permipgz mission permission to leave. On the west side inner loop, thats been a problem most of the afternoon. Delays stretch there from 295, around to liberty road. And northbound 95, those delays just continue to build. It begins at russell street, over to whitemarsh boulevard. As far as accidents go, roscoe boulevard, at yellow brick road. Brokenning highway at keith avenue. Fleet street at broadway. A state Senate Committee approved legislation to tighten controls on gun ownership in maryland. But as political reporter pat warren explains, thats no indication of a rubber stamp. Can you guys hear me out there . Yeah. Reporter gun rights advocates, up in arms, swarm the state house this month; youre trying to make me pay for the crimes of other people. Reporter proposals that have now passed through a Senate Committee and onto the senate floor for a vote. I think its an excellent bill. I think its in great shape. Reporter the gun includes a prohibition of guns for people with Mental Health problems. It also sets fees and regulations for licensing handguns. Although the committee adjusted the fees. And it includes a weapons ban and limits bullets in a magazine clip to 10. Each one of them will save lives. Marylanders will be safer with all of this stuff. Reporter thats the debate. What theyre offering right now is not solving the problem. Reporter Senate Minority leader, e. J. Pipkinin pipkin grees. Agrees. A lot of discretion to the state police that make gun owners unhappy. The bill has a backing of a coalition of faithbased and community organizations. An offshore bill has passed the house. Lawmakers approved the measure today in annapolis. The bill now goes to the full senate. Under the measure, maryland residents could pay as much as 1. 50 more a month. Now, businesses could see increases of up to 1. 5 . The bill would create the infrastructure for an offshore wind farm near ocean city. The weather in that video looks nice. Yes. Sunny. Probably warm out there. Dont have a whole lot of wind. But wind energy is basically free. Lets take a look at temps. Very critical temperatures across north maryland now. 32 now. South southeast winds at 3. The barometer actually rising. Good news is downtown, its actually 36. Good. Not having any freezing inches there. But the airport and many places from the city on north, its 31, 32. Some places, 29 to 30. That means anything that does fall, if it hits a cold object, its going to freeze. Were not having very much precip. But as i mentioned, it only takes a trace of freezing drizzle to make things slick in some areas if theyre not treated. Particularly, were talking walkways, decks, things like that that get cold air underneath them. Bridges as well. Lets take a look at temps around the region. As i mentioned. 34 down to the south in d. C. 37, ocean city. 32 here. 27 in oakland. Cumberland just went up to 33. 36 in bel air. But everywhere else in the city on negotiate and west. Right on the freezing mark. Takes just a tiny bit of precip. Later tonight, winds will continue to come in off the atlantic ocean. That means low level moisture. And slightly milder air. Overnight, temperatures will be coming up. We dont expect much of this freezing condition to last much longer than maybe midnight into the Early Morning hours. Then temperatures will be increasing. The main area of low pressure, and its dying now, over southern wisconsin, heading up to the upper great lakes. It spreads snow in that region. In our part of the world, it did bring warmer air over top of the colder air. And lighter precip off to the north. Nothing that is going to hit us later on. Very light precip. How much, across the carolinas. Another area of low pressure will redevelop by later tomorrow. That will bring rain tomorrow. From the area north and west, baltimore county, weve got that Winter Weather advisory until 10 00 in morning. All because of a slight chance of that light freezing drizzle. As it warms up. Looks like warmer air coming in on sunday. Northeast winds, 10 to 15. Bay temp, around 37 degrees. Tonight, maybe light freezing drizzle. And temperatures rising from 32 overnight to near 45 determine, with rain and drizzle, becoming breezy in the afternoon. It will end sometime later tomorrow afternoon.
