Yesterday at this time we had winds howling through. Temperatures are cool but its going to warm up pretty nicely over the next few days. That comes with a bit of a change. But not temperatures in the teens. Probably waking up to a little frost on your car if you go outside. 18 in oakland, 24 upton, 23 ocean city. Our daytime high today in the mid40s will go up to about 44 which is just about normal for this time of year. We will talk about the rain coming our way and the snow that moved on by. We will start there. Huge storm that hit millions is gone now. And now the cleanup efforts are underway. While many of the major airports are back up, cruisers to working to clear snow covered roads. Erica for ari has more from hartford, connecticut. Reporter still plenty of snow to shovel and plows. Crews are trying to clear the roads. Some 25 Million People depend on them. Many neighborhood streets remained buried and people cant get out. This video shows just how fast they came down. The heavy snow crushed the roof of this bowling alley. The way it was also too much for this home. It stopped traffic in parts of new york, long island. At least 150 people had to spend the night in their cars. I ran out of gas around 2 00 in the morning. What happened after that . Just stuck it out. Several deaths are blamed, including an 11yearold boy. He was in his dads car getting warmed up the tailpipe was locked with snow. Several counties in connecticut sun records no totals with some towns getting more than 3 feet. All the crews can do is keep piling it up and thats creating huge snowbanks. On the coast snow is just one problem. Hurricane force winds created a powerful storm surge and flooding. And it makes it so the water is trapped. Crews are trying to repair power lines brought down. Many more spending another day shoveling. But for the kids its another day to play. In hartford, connecticut, air, for ari wjz Eyewitness News. Many emergency crews have started responding on foot. A neighbor cut the morning workers say many times responding on foot is the fastest way to reach those in need. And the storms impact reached all the way to travelers here in maryland. More than 100 flights were canceled or delayed at Bwi Thurgood Marshall. As Rochelle Ritchie explains, some travelers have been stranded all we can long. Reporter we may have dodged the snow, but folks traveling out of baltimore are certainly having problems getting out of the city. Its been a long day and night for travelers trying to get home where several feet of snow fell yesterday. Started in las vegas this morning at 6 00 in the morning, went into detroit. My flight into hartford was canceled so then we went down here to baltimore in my flight, once again, to hartford, was canceled. Now is a trait a train to near city. Bwi canceled 33 incoming flights and 43 Outgoing Flights and mortgage more than 30 have been delayed. The stories are much different for travelers having an easy time getting around with very few cancellations. Im visiting my daughter for her birthday and i was worried my trip to visit her would be ruined. Crews are working diligently to get the tracks clear and get everyone on schedule, but travelers are not holding their breath or expecting an easy trip tomorrow. The way this trip is going, theres no way my plane will work and it will be completely reorganized in the morning. Trains between new york and boston will run, but they will be limited. Wjz Eyewitness News. Think you. Wjz following breaking news near bwi. Emergency crews say an Airport Shuttle bus has crashed on route 170 and terminal road. Anne arundel county firefighters responded and they were able to remove the driver of that bus who was the only person onboard. Crews say the bus was also damaged and has damaged light rail tracks leading to the airport. Service is expected to be impact while the damage is repaired. Wjz will bring you updates as they become available. A fatal shooting. It happened three off three officers responded to an apartment complex and confronted a woman brandishing a knife. According to police the woman lunged at the officers forcing them to open fire. She later died. Meanwhile, all three officers are now on administrative leave. She was a state first lady and now she could be the next executive for the county. Former governor bob ehrlichs life may soon announce her plans for the executive seats. Shes expected to appear at a forum for candidacy seeking to replace the former county executive. A leopold resigned after he was found guilty on two counts of misconduct. As many of you know, tonight on cbs, the very best in music will compete for the grammys. All this week we are looking at whats in the running for album of the year. This morning mumford and suns. [ music ] mumford and sun are a band from the uk who have wholeheartedly embraced acoustic americana. They are the british bluegrass guys. Its kind of folk rock on steroids. Just hitting it hard every time out. Mumford and suns are like the little banjo band that could. We met just through mutual love of music. Build a fire from playing in different bands. We decided to make a reject band. Of all the unlikely things have happened, their breakthrough single was the song that they saying over and over again as each tour comes up. Its not like everyones looking. This is the fun. These are the nominees for best new artist. Mumford and son. Ultimately, this is why i think they will win album of the year between the rock world and country world, theres a lot of people who want to get behind the stand. Everything is kind of progressing up and witness the snow in the process. Thats not a bad thing for many folks unless you wanted the snow. 22 degrees at now. I temperature at bwi with dewpoint at 18. Collins, 30. 49 is the barometer reading. The Nations Capital coming in at 29. 27 in annapolis, 30 rock hall, 23 in columbia and bel air. Westminster at 21 degrees. Calm winds around much of the area. We had gusts up to about 35 or 40 Miles Per Hour. They had 70 Miles Per Hour gusts along the cape. That storm system has completely exited the area. We have High Pressure building in for today but another system lifting him from southwest moving in by tomorrow. Our temperatures dictate whats happening with this one. We see temperatures in the mid40s today up into the 50s tomorrow because it comes in from the southwest. It also brings that warmer air. Temperatures in the 50s. This is an all rain event for us. The front associated with the whites it out of fear and weak clearing before our next bit of a disturbance comes through on wednesday. Temperatures are going to be in the mid40s so we have a chance maybe for a bit of a rain and snow mixed with nothing thats going to accumulate because we are just going to be too mild. Four people are in the hospital after gunshots rang out in the middle of mardi gras. It happened last night on new orleans famous bourbon street. Police say they have few details but they do know two men and two women were all wounded. One of the men is in Critical Condition this morning. So far no arrests have been made and a motive is to the mystery. Nearly 1000 people gathered for a Trayvon Martin peace walk in miami. It comes on the week he wouldve celebrated his 18th birthday. The parents and other supporters say their children should always feel safe and able to walk in peace. The event also received support from actor jamie foxx. He was shot and killed by a former Neighborhood Watch leader, george zimmerman, back in february of last year. Well, valentines day is less than a week away, and you may be preparing to share it with your sleep hard, but one Michigan Attorney says this is the perfect time to get a divorce. Instead of worrying about chocolates and roses, hes offering a contest for the unhappily married couples to wed a nocost divorce. Its a simulated off course inside. We are welcoming the public to take a ride in a jeep as it drives over. You are saying its a big attraction. Tell us some of the stuff they are driving over. We have a 14foot mountain with a 35 degrees grade on both sides, a couple logs displays, a sidehill demonstration, just a bunch of cool things that show the capabilities of the product. And its not just one jeep you are letting people write in. Theres a few different models. Thats right. We have 2013 g at current share key and 2013 jeep wranglers. This is something we want to clarify. People cant drive themselves. They could ride in it, and children can go with a certain height. We have professional drivers that drive the vehicles. This morning the Anne Arundel County politician tells mary bubala how that fateful day made him take a long hard look at his life. Reporter delegate don dwyer facing charges related to the boating accident so he cant go into much detail but he does open up to me about his battle with alcohol. Of violent collision on the river. To speed boats slam into each other. During the harvard at the controls of one vote. He and his grandchildren suffer serious injuries. State delegate don dwyer at the home of the other boat. According to witnesses, he drives his boat right into the path of the other one. Police say hes going full throttle, is out of control, and drunk. Are you an alcoholic . When you get to the point you are struggling at the level i was and using alcohol in the way that i was, clearly, i had a problem that needed to be addressed. In his first indepth interview since the boating accident, he opens up about his drinking. The Anne Arundel County republicans blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit that august night. It is true that i was drinking while operating my vote yesterday. Its a wakeup call for him. He goes to aa meetings where he stands up to say this. Im don dwyer. Im an alcoholic, and im here to discuss my situation. Uses two things drove him to drink. The breakdown of his marriage and intense legislative battles. Do you feel that you should still be in this office . Did i make a mistake . Absolutely. Does everybody deserve a Second Chance . I think so. For me in this case, no one was killed, no one was seriously injured. Do you think public figures should be held to a higher standard . When the average person is involved in a situation like this, its not made public. You are not on channel 13 news at 6 00. It makes a very personal, makes it very humiliating at times. It makes it very open and exposed. Its very difficult to do that. And im a human being. I make mistakes just what everybody else. Eagles on trial in may. He faces a possible year in jail and fines if convicted. He could be kicked out of office. Im not afraid of any of the repercussions of what may or may not happen. Theres consequences in life for everything. One of the things ive realized is that once you are willing to admit you are an alcoholic, its not something that goes away.
