This is where relatives, and loved ones of 9 11 victims are gathering today area marking the 15th anniversary of the terror attack. Now, they are reading names out loud, and memorializing the people who died on that day, more than 3000 people perished in the terrorist attacks. The 9 11 terrorist attack that killed nearly 3000 people, on that day, and destroyed the lives of many more, since then. Jay gray has more from ground zero where that memorial is being held. It was debris falling from the tower, it was pitch black outside. Reporter 15 years. People started screaming, and running and saying run for your life started to run, and run, and what was happening was a tower was collapsing. Reporter the memories, and images have yet to fade. Nor, has the result. Literally, out of the ashes we have rebuilt stronger, and taller. Reporter in new york, washington, and shanksville, there are reminders every day. But on this day, the anniversary of the attacks, the nation pauses to remember. And reaffirm a commitment to 2996 a promise made by firefighters, who raised this American Flag from the rubble that day. The symbolism, of what they did, in raising that flag, is really what resonates with people. Reporter they iconic symbol has been lost for more than a decade. Reporter this is the finish line here at my dina for the Fourth Annual tunnel to 5k run and walk, we are seeing more than 500 people cross this finish line, this morning, and some of them firefighters, in full gear, police officers, in full uniform, as well. Here with us this morning we have a special guest, this is jack, you might recognize her, American Idol season 14, i think you said it was, third place, she also told me. Nothing else brings you here, what is the special connection you have . I love this foundation, it is very close to my family. My dad was a First Responder in the 9 11 attacks. Its a really special day for everybody to keep all of our heroes in the mind, and to never forget. Im really happy to be here and performing on 9 11. I havent ever performed on 9 11 before. Its really great to be part of the family here. Reporter you are only five years old, but there are things you definitely remember . It was a crazy day. I remember hiding in my b asement, with my mom, my little brother. He was only like 23. It was extremely scary. I am so blessed to have my dad here with me today. Yeah, he is always my hero, no matter what. Reporter he had a long life of service, and retired now, like you said you are so lucky to have him home with you. Put it into perspective, why they should never forget, and every day i wake up and thank god that i still have my dad, in my life, he has not only my hero but my best friend. He holds my family together, and so incredible that he is still here, and part of the experience. It so great to even say. It feels so real that he was a part of that. You have so many Strong Families here today. I have the tightest daddy Daughter Relationship you could ever imagine. He literally has dedicated his life to making my dreams come true, as a singer. So, it disguise that he had to retire. He was injured on the job during the recovery mission, the whole thing, and then yes, he just dedicated his life to being my manager, taking on the road and bring me to places i needed to be to make my dreams come true, take over the world with me. He is my partner in crime, and i am so thankful he is part of this. Honoring the First Responders who sacrificed that day, and every day. Nobody asks for a thank you. This is just my way of saying, you deserve a thank you. Reporter it goes beyond just the display in his yard, bill also gives back to local First Responders. Bringing them meals to show appreciation for all they do. I bring them pizza, and wings, to say thank reporter his work earns a lot of praise from the c ommunity. I get a lot of honks, and waves. A lot of people stopping. People love it.
