A 5yearold killed in the city of cleveland. A man beaten to death at a bus stop. By the end of 2015, everybody was saying enough is enough. And then 2016 happened and it appears to be happening again. Lets talk about some of the numbers. In the last four years, city of cleveland averaged 100 homicides. In the past two years, the city exceeded that. City councilman zach reed painted this picture at the meeting. He went on to say 65 of these murders have been in retaliation, and that the number one war in downtown cleveland are these murders. And that all the development and money being pumped into downtown is not stopping the violence. Heres what he had to say following the meeting when he presented the plan. For the last two years, weve had 222 homicide in the city of cleveland. We stand here tonight with 10 homicides already. At this pace, were going for the third Consecutive Year of homicides in the city of i think weve finally come to the realization that the status quo is not acceptable. This plan. Give 250,000 to the peacemakers, the violence disrupters in the city. Then he wants officers to have dash cameras. Also body cameras. As many people may be wondering, how are we going to pay for this . Reed wants to increase the city tax by 1 . This will be discussed next week when council gets the budget. Huntington bank has acquired they said they will lay off some employees but they hope to keep as many as possible. The deal reached last night will create the Number One Bank by deposits in ohio. There are more questions in the northeast ohio town where high levels of lead have been found in the water. Sebring is a village about 70 miles southeast of cleveland. Weve now learned the person operating the water system has been put on paid leave while the state looks into what went wrong. Ohios epa is alleging the water Plant Operator wasnt doing his job and may have falsified reports. Residents are afraid. Were very afraid. Were just taking one day at a time. Instant fear. We dont know what to do. Were told the lead levels in the water are falling, and only a handful of homes and a fountain at the high school are still testing high. Today in flint, michigan, families concerned about their exposure to lead can get tested for free. The test is available for children up to six years old. Offered next month. The National Guard has been assisting the people of flint by providing bottled water. A new report on Human Trafficking in ohio. Last year, investigators found more than 200 potential victims, most young women. Seven of them, 13 years old or younger. The collaborative and Human Trafficking held an event at tower city to bring attention to the crime. Then tomorrow some lake effect snow will be possible for some of you along the lake shore, especially cleveland areas east. A lot of you wont deal with that, but its going to be cold tomorrow through the end of the week. We get another little system in here thursday to friday, more snow shower chances, but then were talking well into the 40s. We may hit 50 degrees by the end of this weekend. Its 6 16. Yesterday. They used our connection to their space vehicles. Earlier i showed you the actual rover lab where they systems. Any next stop was the electric nasas 75th anniversary. Check out this place. Its filled with these gigantic basically put a lid on and can vacuum suction all the air out of and drop the temperature to near absolute zero. Basically what they can do is generate deep space conditions inside of these canisters. Now, the reason they would want to do that is so that companies and other nasa properties that are developing things for space can actually test them without sending them out to space. That turns out to save them a lot of money and a lot of time. In this case, what youre looking at is a Power Generation system, almost a minireactor that they can test in space flight conditions right here on earth. This is a one of one of a kind lab manned by an extremely talented group of people that Companies Really come to from all over the world to use right here in northeast ohio. I was very excited to see this thing. This thing is huge. There are several of them throughout the electric propulsion system laboratory. Very important to this laboratory are these. They dont look like much. Theyre called ion drives. Basically these things use electricity generated from solar power from the sun to make enough force as this sheet of paper is putting on my hand right now. They will need a rocket to launch the orion space craft to send it to mars. Once it gets to deep space, theyre going the use one of these drives to slowly increase the speed of the craft until they finally get it fast enough to get men and women to mars in about six months. This is all coming from research right here in northeast ohio. And some of these big canisters and vessels theyre using to generate deep space conditions, amazing work going on outside of cleveland. Its important to our heritage. Well give you more information because im going to be telling you how you can have a chance to actually visit nasa and see yourself. Yeah. In terms of traffic. 71 at 271, weve been monitoring this camera all morning long because you still have the two lanes blocked on 71 south, which means youre only getting by your right lane because of a crash involving two semi trucks. Were not seeing any delays on 71 south approaching 3 and 271, but, again, you might want to give yourself extra time so you can slow down as you pass that crash. Other than that, were looking pretty good on the traffic map, even though were seeing wet roads in the area. We have our slow traffic on 71 north before the inner belt bridge, but that drive time in just under a week, the official primary season will kick off when voters head to the polls in iowa. John kasich is getting new momentum. This could help boost his campaign. Yeah, john, pretty big endorsement for the kasich camp. The boston globe backs the governor. While the endorsement may not do anything to swing voters in iowa who start the voting process for the country on monday. New hampshire is where kasich has been focusing his attention. In its endorsement, the boston globe called kasich a latest poll out of New Hampshire has kasich tied for second. New hampshire which typically serves to narrow the field has a lot of narrowing to do. The boston globe says the gop take the fight to trump and kasich is the best bet. Other candidates have swarmed to iowa ahead of the caucus, but kasich has only been there twice. Its clear hes focused on New Hampshire. This endorsement should help him there.
