Rescue teams are now working to get them. Live on rose lane with the block of rose lane in Southeast Raleigh firefighters are attempting to rescue a gentleman stuck in the water we dont have the best Vantage Point there is where Law Enforcement has us set up on the other side of the fire truck there is a man holding on to a branch for dear life as firefighters were trying to rescue him. The man in this video decided to go into the water and he ended up getting stuck. We arent sure if he was out playing in the water or simply trying to get he is still stuck. That was 4 hours ago. Now crews went in to the water to rescue him and got stuck then they needed to be helped and rescued themselves. We are still working to learn that mans age as well as name, but witnesses here say he just got stuck and they have no idea exactly how it happened. Someone actually did try to save him but with the current being so heavy they almost got and again as we bring you back here live you can probably see just coming into your screen, what appears to be another firefighter approaching that fire truck just simply trying to rescue that man. I believe that is walnut creek down here towards the end of that road and from where i was standing earlier didnt seem the water was too bad it is about up to the mans waist however the current of this particular creek is very strong so it appears this gentleman is a little hesitant to cross water at this point as he has fears of being swept away we are continuing to learn more about what is happening and what Emergency Personnel are doing to save the man down there in the water live in Southeast Raleigh, abc 11 eyewitness news. Thank you one of many rescue operations going on tonight. Coverage of Hurricane Matthew continues after the break. A live look at Brunswick County, this is south port our coastal communities battered by crews on the coast after the break where does North Carolina go from here . Im roy cooper, and after years of our state moving backward, these would be my priorities as governor. We need to end giveaways for companies that send jobs overseas and grow our economy here. And we need to reform our tax system so those at the top arent getting tax breaks at your expense. Whipping winds and rain causing problems on our coast. Parts of downtown wilmington flooded as matthews eye wall moves fart fresh the North Carolina coast. Live in white moves farther away from the North Carolina coast. Live in whitesville beach. Reporter thats right none to have rain has stopped wind r tonight. Standing here on the beach the wind is kicking up the sand you feel that pelting your face. We were listening to the latest reports emergency crews watching and measuring the wind, they are anticipating having to close down bridges just in case because they dont want anyone driving over bridges in these conditions. They are watching for that tonight as you mention downtown wilmington was flooded out, flash flooding has been a major water had been receding that is good news there but while the water was going down we were noticing transformers going out. The sky was lighting up as they exploded in a lot of places and they are without power tonight. Last check with Duke Energy Thousands were without power overall people right now are dealing with Power Outages and any left over flash flooding and of course, this wind still pelting the area. So that is what we are watching out for, that is the very latest, i am going to send back to you guys. Thanks. That is the view from New Hanover County Hurricane Matthew causing problems south in Brunswick County. This is video of the storm surge knocking down the Oak Island Pier this pier ended up being another victim of Hurricane Matthew. You can watch just a moment there, and you see it falling the waves crashing into it, that wind really hard there. Guests have been trance forked to other hotel transferred to hotels in this area. Matthew has caused other problems through out the community, waves crashing, streets inundated with water downtown. Raging waters ripped off power right now, utility crews we have seen them rolling through neighborhoodworking to restore power. A curfew is in effect in Brunswick County officials really want folks to stay off the road and at home where it is safe. That is the view from the coast tonight here in the triangle as chris said the rain is tapering off but the water is still rising. Right and the threat then or the problem is going to shift flooding. The bigger rivers, tar, noose, Cape Fear River they are all going to be in some sort of flood stage. Noose river, clayton to smith field, and goldsboro potentially record levels, surfacing floyd of 1999 surfacing floyd of 1999 access of heaviest rain set up, along interstate 95, that was would be rocky mount to goldsboro, rocksboro, 6 inches of rain raleigh south ward, 6 to 8 inches of rain fell in wake county the airport picked up 6 inches. You can see these areas, cumberland to wayne off our charts, we just dont plan for more than 7 inches in one day. 10 to 15 inches in darker colors here along and east of interstate 95, parts of flooded, still raining still fairly light compared to what it was it shouldnt add any more problems but it is not going to help matters may stop the water from receding as quickly as it would if we were completely dry. First alert predicter we go past midnight still persistent rains, on the light side. Earlier in the day, rainfall rates 2 to 3 inches per hour across the sand hills incredible amounts of rain in a short amount of time that is as impressive although it did just about as much damage in terms of wind damage but Property Damage and aggravation and life threatening issues as it did along the east Central Coast of florida. Hard to tell this is a hurricane. Interact withing a frontal boundary that caused it to lose tropical characteristics. Flash flood warnings in all the regions not watches through Early Morning hours that means about just 6 inches of water can cause your car to stall, and even float a car. 12 inches can carry a car away. That is not even over the tires and 18 to 24 can carry away most large suvs we have seen examples of people trying to drive through flooded roadways and having to be rescued. 45mile per hour gusts, pope airfield, 58mile per hour gusts goldsboro earlier in the evening 68 Miles Per Hour Hurricane Force winds 74 Miles Per Hour and it came close. We are watching this rain move out of here and our first alert predictor tomorrow will be a much nicer day. Breezy, why so much rain typically a hurricane that stays that far offshore, hugged our coast we dont see these massive amounts of rainfall from a hurricane that stays off the coast typically it has to interacted with a stationary front along the coast much like floyd did in 1999, that allowed the moisture to come flooding north ward the hurricane became less sei metic in terms of rainfall less symmetric in terms of rainfall, along the north side. High pressure over new england bringing in a northeasterly flow of moisture and everything combining to produce a disaster around here today across state. Downtown durham, 4 and a quarter inches, 64 degrees temperatures 60s some stations knocked out the power out
