Tammy still to come, following the growing popularity why more program that incorporates mixed martial arts continues in popularity. Larry more people are trying mma for the new year. Its also turning in to a family affair. A lot of people think that mma is just for fighting and they think its a brutal art. And its absolutely not. Reporter if you talk to abby Clark Robinson and her us h band jeff who Work Together at this club, mma, the reason mixed martial arts is growing is you get more than a stronger body. Youre going to learn a practical art. Youre going to learn selfdefense. And youre going to learn a skill. Reporter that skill is becoming more attractive to especially women. When i first started, there werent very many girls. I actually had to wrestle with men. Reporter but not anymore, they may have started because they have a family. Shape having kids. Reporter but mixed martial affair. W w ask that we always get the kid in here first, and then mom and dad want to join. Reporter part of the appeal for the women is the selfdefense part of training is about leverage and not size. If you train properly and mix the moves with martial arts, size doesnt matter. This is what she means by this. Hands here. Im going to grab you here. Im going to lift this behind you. I just stepped on your foot. Sorry about that. And then im going to roll you over and get the heck off you. Reporter the goal is fitness with a healthy respect for awareness of your surroundings. Its also, however, about realizing that youre worth it. I know i have personally lost a lot of weight. Ive slimmed up. Also i have learned so much from the people around me and from my coach. Ive grown better as a person and as a young adult and society. Tammy and there are plenty of fitness clubs that offer mixed martial arts across the country. Larry they say Group Classes are a great place to start. Tammy still ahead, staying what people learned a learning, we made at stop at the Western North Carolina Nature Center to see what the kids are doing during the holiday break. Now you and i have a squeeze factor of about 20 pounds per square inch. So we can squeeze about 20. Some raptors can squeeze like 220. Larry well the rain did not keep visitors from stopping by this afternoon. Some of them took part in an Educational Program called animal moments. Tammy the focus of todays program were an owl. Those in todays program were excited to learn. One thing we like about this center is it brings animals that are indigenous to this region, to the appalachian region, in to the center. So its not a zoo where you see exotic animals. But its a place where you see indigenous animals from this area. Tammy it takes place every afternoon
