He s at Butler County Juvenile Court with a breakdown of where the investigation stands this morning. Dan . Dan there were raw emotions yesterday, certainly raw emotions today. He could face a judge as early as this morning. We re talking about 14yearold James Austin Hancock. We re told he s a student at madison juniorsenior high school and also on the wrestling team. Investigators say he fired shots with a. 38calibur gun in the cafeteria yesterday morning, hitting 15yearold Cameron Smith and 14yearold cooper caffrey. Caffrey is also on the wrestling team. We also know two others were also hurt by shrapnel or while running from the gunfire. All are expected to make full recoveries without surgery. Say they won t forget these moments, saying they feel scarred. Be hunkered down in shelter the building is now secure. Police are now sweeping the building. The suspect is in custody. The injured are on their way to the hospital. Nothing lifethreatening. Dan Butler County investigators say hancock ran from the scene, dropping the gun, but was caught shortly after. He was then arrested. He faces a long list of charges including attempted murder, felonious assault, and terroristic threatening, all felony juvenile charges. It was an emotional day for both students and their parents, as many mothers and fathers rushed to the school trying to make sure their kids were ok. You just can t believe it. Because you see it on the news. It happens to other people, but it doesn t happen to us because i just can t imagine. Lisa two seperate vigils took place in middletown last night with crowds coming out to show support to the madision School District. Dozens of people came together outside Middletown High School and prayed. They said they had to remain vigilent when danger can reach yoru front door at any moment. Mark countless people and politicians are sending their township, as they cope with this tragedy. Ohio Governor John Kasich was briefed on the attack while at a he offered his support to the families. Gov. Kasich obviously it is a tragedy, particularly coming in a school in Butler County. We don t know what s behind it, yet i am very happy there is not going to be any loss of life. Mark ohio state representative Tim Derickson out of oxford is also passing along his thoughts and prayers to the students, teachers, and faculty. He went on to say, during times like this, it s critical that the Community Comes together and that families support one another. Madison local schools are moving forward with plans to help the the district s latest Facebook Post says staff will report and together, we will begin to put plans in place, including onsite counseling, to support our students when we return to school. Extracurricular activities are also cancelled. Mark the Clermont County narcotics unit arrests a man accused of distributing heroin in new richmond and surrounding areas. 34yearold Charles Crossty is now charged with one count of trafficking in heroin, a fourthdegree felony. Officials say they intercepted 25 grams of heroin and 20 grams of crack cocaine in the arrest. Also making the headlines this morning, the heroin epidemic in Greater Cincinnati. Virginia Police Officer Ashley Guindon will be laid to rest today. Her body was escorted by dozens of police cars and motorcycles last night to a chapel which is where her Funeral Service will be held at noon tomorrow. The Prince William county officer was shot and killed in the line of duty last saturday. It was guindon s first day on patrol. She and two other officers were responding to a domestic shooter Ronald Hamilton fired his gun and shot all three officers. Guindon died from her injuries. Mark closer to home, a 14yearold behind bars this morning in Butler County after a School Shooting at Madison Junior Senior High School. Officials say 14yearold James Austin Hancock opened fire during lunch in the cafeteria just after 11 00 yesterday morning. Two students were shot. Two others were injured by shrapnel. Hancock is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, inducing panic and making terrorist threats. The 14yearold could make his first Court Appearance this morning. The four students injured are expected to be ok. The two boys shot, Cameron Smith and cooper caffrey, are at Miami Valley Hospital in dayton with nonlifethreatening injuries. Teachers will be coming back today, getting ready for the return of the students. They ll be making plans for how they ll handle the arrival of the students. We heard last night that some teachers were reaching out and calling students at home to see how they were doing. We also got a chance to talk to the mother of Katherine Doucette one of victims. , she says shrapnel hit her daughter in the knee. Stephanie doucette says the hardest part yesterday was trying to get to her daughter at the school. She couldn t get here fast enough. She s still in shock that Something Like this is happening in this community. She s still shocked it happend. She s gone to madison since kindergarten and she s known these kids, even the shooter. She knows and it s hard to think that, you know, her biggest question is, why . Scared. I thought i was going to die. Everybody. Andrew that second voice, jade ilderton was in the cafeteria when the gunshots were fired. She, like a lot of other people here, are asking why a 14 yearold classmate would do this.
