Clouds and scattered showers and sprinkles fell overnight and there will be more around for a time. Mostly just light sprinkles or light showers expected in most parts of the state. Meanwhile, if youre about, say, concord on south, somewhere in that rough vicinity, you are in the possible area that could see a passing shower and a lot of clouds. Meanwhile, if youre north of those areas, dont really look for anything, maybe, maybe a quick sprinkle, but for the most part you should see sunshine in these areas northward once the fog burns away in some locations, so big, big changes and big differences, rather, from one spot to another in parts of the state today. Southern New Hampshire, youre closer to this front. Its a stalled front, but just close enough to throw some clouds and sprinkles in southern parts of the state for while. Especially mid day. And then i think the threat subsides quite bit for this afternoon. Southern New Hampshire, breaks of sun should make their way out. Dont cancel any plans, as i mentioned the rest of the state, the front thats moving to our south, is connect today an area of low pressure in the southeast, theyre getting battered with a lot of rain. A boys wish comes true, and how the boy went on his very own zombie hunt. For spencer holt, this was a pain, without seven, where this 7yearold was free from ivs and talk of terminal illness. For just a brief moment, spencer was no longer a child who was dying, but rather, a little boy watching his dreams come true. Have courage in the tough times and the good times, right . This is the day spencer would be granted his ultimate wish. He became a deputy. The zombies overran the jail. Theyve overran the jail, we cant hold them back. How many are there . 20, 30, 40. Lets draw up a plan the Pasco Sheriffs Office truly made it a magical moment for this young patient, inviting him to be one of them. Were getting overrun, buddy, we need your help. We need a team leader out there. It may get dangerous. We never fought zombies before. The job to protect and serve began right away. Spencer was deputized. And then given his zombie gun and off to find the walking dead. It was the dancing deputies who stole the show and thrilled their coworker. I think for spencer, hes going to remember this day and as much as it meant to him, it probably meant a lot more to us. Its nice because he spends a lot of time in the hospital. So for him to do Something Different, special, and have fun, its nice. Coming up next, while the growing season is winding down its the perfect time to plant a new tree. What you need to know before you start digging and in our next half hour, its fall, but new it is time to deal outofpocket costs. Commentator the 32yearold head of a Pharmaceutical Company raised the price of a lifesaving drug overnight by 5,000 . Im announcing a detailed plan to crack down on these abuses. Commentator he may be lowering it after Hillary Clinton blasted him out of the water. Her plan would limit the outofpocket costs that consumers have to pay. Clinton nobody in america should have to choose between buying the medicine they need and paying their rent. Im Hillary Clinton, welcome to todays grow it green. Im joined by Margaret Hagan from unh extension. Planting a tree, whats the first thing you want to do . You want to choose the right tree for the right place. This looks kind of cute, but its not going to always stay that way. Its not. There are two big oak trees and one is starting to go out and i want this one up. So im planting it early so its ready. It goes to 7 5 5 feet . This is one that has beautiful fall foliage, and. Sometimes i encounter things, this is known as the Granite State. And you want to follow the trunk to where its at the base, the root flare where they meet the trunk. After that, you want to measure the width and then the height of the root ball that youre going to be putting in. And you dig as deep as the height and no deeper because you dont want it to settle. Some people think they might be protecting the tree from the winter time and a harsh environment, but thats not a good thing, you said. People plant them too deeply. So you want to dig it just to the depth of the root ball and then two and a half to three times as wide as the root ball. So, this is nine inches in diameter and my hole is 24 inches in diameter. Do i want to expose some of the root ball and the tree or leave it intact like we have it here . You dont want to expose it. You want to see if the root flare does show above ground. Once were set, the trees there, what do we do next . This is a really sandy soil and because its sandy, im going to need to add a little bit of backfill. So im going to add 30 compost to the backfill and then ill turn it altogether. If i need lime or some other amendment, ill add it to the backfill and then you put it in about half deep, tamp it down, and make sure you water it in well. Ok. And then put the rest of the backfill in and water it again and if you can create a shallow saucer to hold water, the next important thing is watering. You need to make sure you get an inch of water on it a week, whether from rain or your that much, really . That much. How long do i have to do this . The first year and a half. We trend to have dry falls for water it until the ground freezes. And next year youll be ready to replace the oaks and this is pretty much universal for any type of tree . It is for any type of tree. Thank you, margaret. Thats it for todays grow it green. Back to you in the studio. Amy thank you, ray and margaret. Summer is over, but you still need to watch out for mosquitos. States along the east coast are bracing for potential flooding as the storm pumps in more moisture. And five have issued a state of emergency. Right now, crews are searching for a cargo ship, that board en route to puerto rico, the crew reported the ship had taken on water, but the flooding had been contained. Its got to be tough to be out at sea. I was on a cruiseship during the hurricane, and i was so sick. And any effects that joaquin will have to the u. S. And a now, meteorologist josh judge with your storm watch 9 forecast. Josh well, those temperatures are widely varying around the Granite State to start off. Most of us will top off in the 50s so a cooler day on tap. There is a look at your temperatures. Look at the difference between whitefield and berlin. The berlin area has certainly been seeing chilly conditions whereas whitefield, 41, has warmed up in the last hour or so, but 40s to near 50 degrees in central and southern New Hampshire where youve got a lot of clouds and there are some showers, as you can see here, in some parts of southern New Hampshire. Very scattered and very light sprinkles out there, and more of them around parts of massachusetts, but its really just extreme southern New Hampshire and thats where we have that chance for the next several hours. Up until about mid day or so, maybe, early afternoon, but by the time we get into the afternoon deeper, into the deeper part of the afternoon, rather, we could see some drying conditions even in southern New Hampshire and not out of the question, late day. Even had breaks of sun, as we head into central New Hampshire, you should turn partly sunny and northern New Hampshire partly sunny if not mostly sunny. The simple reason why, the front is to our south, the more you go, the more distance you put between yourself and it. And were also watching a couple of things, this front goes down to an area of low pressure. This is not the hurricane, but certainly a strong storm system which is battering the east coast and bringing lots of rain to them. Meanwhile, the hurricane itself still sits down around the course. Now. The hurricane is just over, north of the bahamas. 125 mile per hour winds, a strong category 3 storm still. Its going to be headed to the northeast now, and as we get into today and tomorrow and the next couple of days over the weekend, as you can see, it starts to weaken just a little, but still, a very strong hurricane, but notice, as it makes the closest pass to us, monday night, tuesday morning, it will be far off shore. So shouldnt really have any effects on us, except for some rough seas and chop. Thats really about it, it just continues out to sea. Around here, theres your clouds in the southern part of the state. Somewhere around the lakes region and concord is where it will be. And then the clouds start to thin out going through the afternoon, they may toughen up in extreme southern New Hampshire, but central New Hampshire, youre turning partly sunny and southern New Hampshire, some areas will see some sun. If youre in the southeastern happen. Most of the state, breaks of sun could develop this afternoon late and depends farther north you are, the sooner it happens. Tomorrow more sunshine and highs today mostly between 55 and 60 degrees with clouds to the south and partly sunny skies farther north, a pretty nice day there. Tomorrow, we all turn sunny with the possible exception of southeastern New Hampshire where you could see a sprinkle or some clouds near the coast because youre so far to the southeast near the ocean. The rest of us a lot of sunshine, pretty nice day for tomorrow, too. And the week ahead looks good and the hurricane will miss us, monday, tuesday, wednesday, during those days, well be gorgeous. Leaf peepers. The sunny days. A 7yearold florida boyss wish came through. The boy went on his own zombie hunt.
