The child and her mother walking hand in hand crossing this intersection were hit by the driver of an suv, we have video of that vehicle. The most recent Surveillance Video of the suv released by police. The driver of the black Chevrolet Tahoe at the corner of Van Buren Place and 61st street turned as the little girl named shayla and her mother were crossing the street. The driver struck both of them even got out of the vehicle for several seconds looked at the child on the ground and the mother and took off. The child died at the hospital. She was the only child of her mother and father. So many people van buren, 61st street have left flowers and balloons. So many people were out here, angry about this driver hoping that he or she turns themselves in. That little girl and her mother only a block away from school when that tragedy happened.
