Morning, up around 50 this in the city. The wind is coming out of the northeast that will pull in the chillier air. We have a frontal boundary and area of low pressure trying to push in our direction. Its raining lightly in and around the city. The heavier rain, well see a few of those move on in. There are breaks in the action. In between the periods of rain today, there will be drizzle around. Look at the temperature, nosediving from the 50s into the 40s. Low 40s by mid afternoon. That high of 47 is kind of a generic one that will take place at 8 00 a. M. Or so. Keep the umbrellas handy. Damp roads early on. Lauren scala here to see if there are any issues because of that. We got our first accident of the morning in. As chris said, the roads are wet. Just one isnt the worst news. 95 northbound on the new england thruway, an accident by playland parkway. Lauren, thank you. Breaking news in brooklyn where a 2yearold girl has died. First responders rushed to her home last night. They couldnt save her. Katherine creag is there with what police are saying. Kat. Reporter what a tragedy to happen. Its near 6th avenue. There are Police Officers stationed in front of the familys house. Police are telling us the name of the little girl. The childs name is melody fang. Only 2 years old. The child has died. As we mentioned, there are Police Officers at the door of the familys house. There are Police Vehicles all around here as well. When officers first arrived here to the scene, this was after 8 00 last night, we were told that the father was actively performing cpr. The child appeared to have drowned. How that happened is unknown. An officer with the nypd told me that an autopsy is scheduled to take place a little later today to answer a lot of those questions. Then the parents of the little girl, 2yearold melody fang, the mom and dad are at the 72nd precinct station house being questioned by investigators. Back to you, darlene. Katherine creag, thank you. A Staten Island mother faces murder charges after her newborn was found tossed in a trash bag. The charges against 28yearold Nausheen Rahman were upgraded after the medical examiner determined the baby was alive before it was placed in the bag. The infant was found saturday morning in a garbage bag outside rahmans home on Richmond Hill road. The medical examiner is still working to determine the exact cause of the infants death. New this morning, police are searching for the man who tried to rape a woman in her apartment building. These are new images of the suspect. He followed the victim into her building in borough park on saturday. Held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her before taking off. New this morning, most new york city Police Officers believe the city is not as safe since mayor de blasio took office. A poll conducted by the Police Union Says 87 of the officers find the city less safe in the past two years. 96 believe suspects are now more likely to actively resist police. The poll shows morale is low on a scale of zero to ten. Officers gave it just under 2. 5. Were learning some of the details from a deal that helped divert a new Jersey Transit strike. Union leaders agreed only after officials said theyd give retroactive pay to recent rye tier ease. Rail workers would get a raise. But would also have to pay more for health benefits. An amtrak passenger train derailed in western kansas overnight. At least five cars went off the rails about 20 miles west of dodge city. This happened just after 11 00 eastern time last night. Amtrak says the train was headed to chicago from los angeles. They had 142 passengers and crew on board. 11 people had to be taken to the hospital. Happening now, Police Investigating a pair of gangrelated attacks in front of a building in queens. Security video shows the aftermath of one of the stabbings in Jackson Heights on saturday. Police say a 16yearold boy walking a dog was stabbed after two mep asked if he was down with the abk, which is a local queens gang. Then a 23yearold man was asked the same question at the same location and was stabbed in the back. Got to these kids doing these crazy things. Not getting easier in new york city. The suspects stabbed the teenagers dog also. None of the injuries are life threatening. Divers stopped the search for a third victim of the tugboat crash near the tappan zee bridge. That boat sank after striking the barge saturday morning. Divers pulled two bodies from the water. But theyve been unable to get inside a section of the tugboat where the body of a third crew member is believed to still be. The operation will now focus on how to move the wreck anl and clean up he estimated 5,000 gallons of fuel that leaked into the river. Voters in five states head to the polls tomorrow for president ial primaries. Right now, donald trump lead in two of them. The latest poll shows trump ahead in illinois and marco rubios home state of florida as well. Thats despite some violence at some of trumps recent rallies. There was a real dustup friday in chicago. It went viral this weekend. Shows the trump sticker on the dashboard. Many people when word reached the Police Department, the officer involved was counseled, the sticker removed and its under investigation. A highspeed chase across los angeles where police were pursuing a stolen police car. Police say that stolen cruiser hit speeds of over 100 miles an hour as it weaved in and out of traffic. It eventually turned down an alley in glendale, california. Police rammed the car and shots were fired. The driver was killed. No Police Officers were hurt in that pursuit. Drenching storms moving through the south are bringing dangerous flooding to the region. Thousands of people had to be rescued from floodwater and at least six people are dead. President obama signed an Emergency Declaration for louisiana after days of heavy rains and historic flooding. Hundreds of homes are already tennessee and arkansas. Lost my car. Beds, furniture, everything. All the belongings. Dont know what were going to do. We dont have flood insurance. Nobody in this area has had to have flood insurance. Do anticipate a couple of days of, a stretch of two to three days of the weather being unsettled. For today, theres the shower activity. Periods of rain through noontime. Through the evening commute, still over the area, right through the overnight. By tomorrow morning, more to the north and east. Could be leftover drizzle or light rain tomorrow morning. Then heading over to island city, an accident investigation that shuts down 21st street between 49th avenue and the pulaski bridge. That could be there for a while. You can take other local streets to get around this. Heading over to the area of brooklyn, water main break shuts down avenue u between Ocean Parkway and Elizabeth Taylor ast 9th. One officer is dead, two suspects in custody following an unprovoked attack on a Maryland Police station. One of the suspects opened fire in Prince Georges County on sunday afternoon. This officer was shot. He later died at the hospital. Other officers pray for him outside. One suspect was wounded in the ensuing firefight. The other was caught though after running into a nearby restaurant. Those officers did not shrink. They bravely advanced and engaged this individual who was threatening not just the Police Officers and the Police Facility that he was opening fire upon. But numerous members of the community in the area. Officer coal son was a fouryear veteran, worked as an undercover narcotics investigator. The flags were ordered to fly at halfstaff today. Also today, a new jersey state trooper struck and killed at the scene of a car crash will be laid to rest. A wake was held sunday for him in burlington county. Last monday he was walking at the scene of a car fire, on i295, when he was struck by a passing car. Cullen leaves behind a fiance and a 9monthold son. Happening today, a new trial over General Motors faulty ignition switches is set to begin in manhattan federal court. The case will help define legal boundaries that could affect hundreds of other lawsuits. General motors announced last september that it reached a deal to settle nearly 1400 cases for 275 million. Hes identified as 42yearold michael the four men got away with money but the driver was not hurt. Were following a couple of terror attacks overseas. One caused massive casualties in turkeys capital. The death toll rising to 37 people where a suicide bomb went off near a bus station. Kurdish rebels are believed to be behind the assault. Turkeys military carried out air strikes against kurdish positions. Dozens of militants were detained by police. A terror group linked to al qaeda says its responsibility for a deadly assault claims responsibility for a deadly assault near several resort hotels in the ivory coast. Theyre skeptical whether they have an hbomb. They doubt it has missiles that could reach the eastern united states. The fbi is looking into reports of two missiles bound for Portland Oregon were stopped overseas. They were found at belgrade airport.
