Fire consumed three buildings destroying five businesses in total and several apartments yesterday. This is in keyport. At one point the fire weakened the structure so severely the wall crumbled. Two firefighters were inside. Four others were also hurt balgting the fire. Theyre all expected to be okay. Witnesses say the fire was fast and it was destructive. The office is totaled. They did an unbelievable job from keeping that from spreading to the downtown. Fire investigators havent said yet what may have caused that fire. They are waiting for crews to remove more of that debris before they can get inside and police are looking for a man they say used fire escapes for two daytime break ins in the bronx. Darnell simmons allegedly broke into two apartments using fire escape windows. Simmons is accused of stealing sneakers, a playstation, jewelry, and car keys. New this morning, police have arrested a man who was wanted for robbing more than 16 businesses across the city. August watkins allegedly hit several gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores in this robbery spree. In all, some 16 locations hit across brooklyn and queens between the 26th of march and the 15th of april. According to police, watkins sometimes hit two or three stores in a single day. Fortunately no one was hurt in any of those robberies. Police and a very worried family are desperate to find a missing Nassau County teenager. Clothing, no money, and no phone. You do the therapy, look at me. 71 years old. Ill run a marathon. 71 years young. Tell us. It wasnt too long ago that red peppers were unique to the industry. We saw them two or three weeks out of the year. Because they were so popular we all know that peppers whether it be yellow, red, orange, purple, whatever color peppers, all start off green. So theyre green and what happens is if its an orange variety, it turns orange. If its yellow itll turn yellow. Same with red. These are regular bell peppers we see in the supermarkets. And we have them in yellow and orange. This is a la rouge pepper. This is longer opposed to the squatty pepper here. Its a lot longer. What theyve done with this pepper is now, what happens is why red peppers are more expensive because the yield isnt there. You have to remember that because theyre green first and if they leave them on the vine to ripen, what you get is less and less yield. The sweeter something is the they got the bell ones to the extent now when you pick them in a colored stage, theyre good for probably an extra seven days. Because when they got to the colored stage, they were at the end of their growing cycle. So that means the la rouge peppers are something unique. They are at the peak of their growing. They actually got them to the peak of the growing section. You get an extra 7 or 14 days out of them. What i want you to do is look for heavy in the hand. The pepper itself has got a nice thick wall. Shake it for seeds, right . Of course. Shake it for seeds. You listen. I do. So you shake it to make sure. If the seeds rattle on the inside, that usually means theyre coming off of the stem on the inside. You also want to look at the ribbing or where the stem is here. You want to look at this part. Because this part actually is now, here, i found one. You see this . Where its starting to go . Theres nothing wrong with the pepper. Cut this piece off and its fine. But thats where it starts to go bad. Colored peppers have a lot of sugar in them. The more sugar in them, the more they tend to go bad. So thats what you want to look for. The la rouge peppers are out now and available. Ive seen these as low as 99 cents a pound up to 1. 99. Youre going to see them reasonable for the next couple of weeks. Extremely high for the next couple of weeks. Thats because its not just that many green peppers around. Price. Thats what happens. Youll see them in the stores. A quick tip, if you had a recipe except for colored. In other words you dont need the colored ones. If you see one that called for a red or yellow pepper, buy the more reasonable one.
