Things are relatively quiet across the immediate metropolitan area, but down to the south, theyve seen rain for purchase much of the day across southern portions of new jersey. Thats going to continue to be the case as we to go to through much of the evening. A lot of clouds across long island and the hudson valley, but weve stayed dry. And thats when were anticipating the heavier snow bands, and thatll bring us accumulating snow overnight into tomorrow morning. Most of thats going to happen across long island and parts of new england. Well talk about the totals you can expect across the area coming up in just a few minutes. Cant wait to hear that. All right, audrey, thanks so much. Tomorrow president obamas heading to cuba, and preparations are underway. American products and memorabilia arriving on the island just ahead of the visit. Some want the president to seek the return of american fugitives hiding in cuba. We have more on this story. Hey, antwan. Not since Calvin Coolidge has a island of cuba. Were reminded that on some issues the countries, separated by just 90 miles, are still worlds apart. When air force one touches down in havana tomorrow, therell be plenty of pomp and circumstance celebrating normal relations between two countries who havent had them in 50 years, but for joe conner, tomorrow isnt a day to celebrate. It says this countrys not serious about fighting terrorism. His father, frank, was killed when a tavern in new york was bombed. The man responsible was caught, convicted and imprisoned and escaped from Bellevue Hospital and wound up in cuba where conner says he continues to live as a guest of the castro regime. Conners been working for 25 years to have morrell las sense back to morales sent back to the united states. What i think obama needs to do, and im not hopeful that hell do it, is tell the castros he will not further anything more in cuba without the return of these terrorists. Period. Local convicted criminal now walking the streets of cuba. In 1973 joanne chess marred killed new jersey state trooper warner forester after a traffic stop in east brunswick. She was found guilty, put in prison, escaped and lived underground until fleeing to cuba in 1984. The troopers havent forgotten. I believe all those considering travel to cuba need to be aware that four dangerous fugitive terrorists are living free and protected on the island. They also tweeted this wanted sign featuring the four wanted by the fbi. All this as the white house says theyre working with the cuban government to bring these fugitives back. We have raised our concerns with the cuban government repeatedly that there are fugitives from american justice that have sought safe haven in cuba, and we are seeking their return. I can tell you there has already been a Law Enforcement dialogue established between our two countries to seek the return of these fugitives so that they can be brought to justice. Speaks in cuba, it will be broadcast live on state television there, and he is expected to meet with political dissidents while hes in the country. Missing from his schedule, however, is a meeting with fidel castro. The nypd has a different approach on minor crimes, will it prevent larger ones . Its the topic of tonights street soldiers, and lisa evers has a preview. I was put through the system, and i did not belong there for something that was very minor. And, you know, the penalties are very harsh, especially on the minorities. Eric gonzalez says the arrest cost him his job. He believes Police Officers should have options when dealing with offenses like urinating in public or riding a bike on a sidewalk. Thats the plan devised by cyrus vance and Police Commissioner bratton. What weve attempted to do is give them more discretion. Give an oral warning, a written warning, give a summons if appropriate or make an arrest if thats whats necessary. The change comes as the Police Department says overall crime is at record low levels, yet tensions between police and communities of color remain a concern. One hard line you smoke marijuana on the street, youre going to be arrested. Look at our arrest numbers, theyre up for that offense. A lot of people didnt get the message last year that you cannot still smoke marijuana on the streets of new york city. Critics of lessening the penalties for quality of life crimes fear it will open the door to the bad old days and create a climate of disorder and danger on streets. But former nypd lieutenant Darren Porcher says it doesnt need to get to that point. Its something that should be constantly looked at to insure that were not going back to those early years of, excuse me, the 990s where we had upwards of 2,000 homicides here in the city of new york. Lisa evers, fox 5 news. Again, lisas tackling that debate on tonights episode of street soldiers, her guests include Kenneth Montgomery and former nypd detective who founded the group to defend Police Officers. Thats coming up after our 10 00 newscast at 10 30. Dark in times square from 8 30 to 9 30 because of earth hour, the goal of which is to raise awareness of Energy Conservation and climate change. But spring snow is on the horizon. Audrey is here with details that i think were all going to like when you explain, audrey. Were expecting lighter amounts of snowfall than we anticipated yesterday and the day before. Looks like the storm system weve been expecting is going to take a track further to the east which means less amount of snow for the tristate area. Today definitely too warm for snow, our temperature was 46, a little cooler than yesterday, a little bit below average, but its still going to be colder tomorrow as temperatures will take a drop, the 30degree range for sunday. Mostly in the middle 40s, thats exactly where were at right now. Were at 48 in poughkeepsie, 45 in sussex, and monticello at 39 at the moment. These numbers are colder than they were at this time last night, and the winds have itll be breezy, and well have gus diswinds for tomorrow. No moisture just yet with with the exception of southern new jersey, and it look like thats going to continue for the next several hours. The snow that were anticipating hasnt arrived yet because temperatures are too mild across the region. We are picking up snow on the radar in the Higher Elevations of west virginia, and it looks like it will be heading over towards our region overnight tonight excuse me, overnight tomorrow night. So we still have kind of a half a day to get through before we start to see the first pieces of precipitation move through the area. We are anticipating our future cast kind of blanked out there, but we are anticipating the snow to actually come in late tomorrow night, probably after dinner time, and thats when itll begin to accumulate. Things should dry out quickly as we go into the noontime hour. In the meantime, we are anticipating snowfall amounts to be relatively light, lighter amounts further west, less than an inch across western extreme new jersey, about an inch or two long island will have about three inches, and most of the action happening well off towards new england where theyll see more significant snowfall. Mostly cloudy tonight, cold in the such you shoulds suburbs, and well start off our Spring Season tonight at 12 30, thats when it officially begins, in the overnight hours. Tomorrow part hi cloudy, rain showers in the afternoon. The snow arrives in the evening. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s to low 40s, and it looks like well be starting off our week with a little bit of snow early in the morning on sunday, and temperatures will slowly rise as we go into the rest of week. 60s by wednesday and thursday, and then our next chance of rain comes in on friday. So once again, the storm weve been expecting is going to take a track further off to the east, which we kind of missed on the future cast since it blanked out. It will be slick on the roadways, so that in itself could cause some problems if youre traveling anywhere tomorrow afternoon and into the evening. All right. Well see you again later. Yes. Thank you, maam. Tomorrow night for a live twohour musical event. The passion life tells the 2,000yearold story of jesus christs last hours here on earth. Trace gallagher has a preview. I was so surprised to find how many millennials dont even know the story of the resurrection. So to have this told and set in modern daytimes to top 40 music, it opens up it up it up to everyone. Story, to hear a story more than 2,000 years old told by songs of our time where weve heard them a hundred thousand times i think the songs that were chosen certainly take on a completely new meaning when you see the visuals that go along with it and the sceneses and how they work in the context. The 16song soundtrack is out this week featuring chris daughtry, seal and trisha yearwood. And with thousands expected to watch a 20foot illuminated cross carried across the city, tyler is proud its being broadcast from his hometown. Welcome to the lap of luxury, im allison morris. This week we visit a restaurant in the Time Warner Center where were talking about affordable luxury. A really, really wonderful or familyowned and operated business, and they have some of the best wines available. 1919, it started almost 100 years ago down on spring street in Greenwich Village, and it started as a small wineimporting house, and it was started by my grandfather. They survived prohibition and established new york headquarters in Old Brookville on long island. But in the 1970s, christinas family returned to italy to wine producers in tuscany. My father n1978 they created a wine estate from scratch in a town thats this wonderful medieval village in the hilltop towns of southern tuscany. The land, never before touched, became not just a vineyard, but also a research center. The first vineyard in the world to be awarded the iso certification for exceptional environmental, ethical and social responsibility. We began a 30year Research Project on the grapes, and we experimented on over 7,000 acres of land with all different types of grapes until we discovered what really works the best and what has the most natural home there. They started with grapes and then moved on to pee know agree joe. We started wanted to blend our wines, lets make a wine where we make the different blends and show the world that you can have absolute luxury super tuscans and the brunello, but lets also make this many affordable. A perfect example, their 2010 brand. This is our 2010 label, its 100 [inaudible] grape, and it comes, has to come from the region where the cos costello estate is. Whats beautiful about this wine, twin, it was a perfect vintage. It started out cool, little bit of rain. Long, hot tuscan summer, and then a cooler fall. That makes for ideal growing conditions, and they say that 2010 was the vintage of the century. Wine is poured in nearly 90 countries around the world. So a bottle in this store is about 65. Its a luxury that you can afford. And i think people should because theres nothing like forren even more luxurious tuscan experience, guests can stay at the hotel. Our hotel is actually nestled right next to the 12th century castle. And the castle sits on top of a hill overlooking 7,000 acres of vineyards and woods. Open march through november, it has just 14 rooms. For 1200 a night in season, stay in the only suite in the world with its own private wine cellar or book a threenight retreat for 35,000 which includes a hot air balloon ride, private cooking lesson and a ferrari rental. The ultimate tuscan experience, it really is. And i think it should be on everybodys bucket list because it brings you right back to the another era, and you really feel like you get a sense of history, a sense of place. And when you drink the wine, you just get a sense of enjoyment. Thanks so much for joining us im allison morris, ill see you next time on the lap of luxury.
