Justice will be best served if mr. Liang is sentenced to five years of probation with the condition that he spend six months of home confinement with electronic monitoring and performs 500 hours of community service. Some of gurleys family members rallied after this suggestion was made, but the decision is now in the judges hands. He will decide if liang will go to prison or walk free. I spoke to the nypd a little while ago. A spokesperson there told me situation. They have not assigned a detail to this area just yet, but theyre ready to move officers if need be. A person from the d. A. s office told me the sentencing is scheduled to come down sometime after 10 00 thursday morning. Be sure to keep an eye on that. Were live in downtown brooklyn. Back over to you. Alison thanks. A lot to watch for thursday. Peter frankle is joining me now. Thank you for coming in. Liz mentioned that the community is well aware they will probably judges sentencing decision thursday, but they have had an impact so far leading up to the conviction. Look, i think anytime theres a high profile case, a judge is going to be aware of it and therell be extra scrutiny on what the judge does. I can tell you the judge is aware of whats going on. Is it going to be a factor into what he decides is an appropriate sentence . The answer to that is no. Hes very well respected, very intelligent judge. He knows the case inside and out. He presided over the trial. He knows a lot about the defendant. Hes going to use those factors in determining whats appropriate here. Alison how much of an impact will the district attorneys recommendation have . A great question. Typically and traditionally, the district attorneys position carries a lot of weight. Both sides will give the judge their respective typically judges, i dont want to say they decide with the district attorney, but they carry a lot of weight. What he has done in advance of the sentencing date has put the judge on notice, told the community what he feels is appropriate. I think thats going to go a long way in determining what the judge is going to issue as a sentence. Alison this case is not one that happened in isolation. Theres so much around the country in terms of officers and just looking at whether an officer would get a conviction. What kind of a role do you think the Community Outcry has played in getting to where we are so far . I think in large part, this has been a perfect storm of bad will you can for peter liang in the sense that the climate was awful, not that theres any good time to be a police shooting, but in my view, theres a lot of backlash with whats going on around the country. I think that that certainly hurt him in his trial because in this case, there was a very thin line between what was an accident and what was actually criminal i think based on whats transpired over the past couple of years, the jury sided with the prosecution and found him guilty of reckless manslaughter. Alison quickly, what do you expect on thursday . Jail time or none . I would say no. I dont think its going to happen. Alison thank you so much for joining us. Very much appreciate it.
