Lucas it was definitely a messy start to the day on roads in northwest iowa with ice and snow, but conditions have been improving all day long. As you can see on the iowa dot online maps at 511ia dot org, central iowa roads mostly clear at this point, but wet from the rain weve had throughout the day. Some roads in northwest iowa remain partially covered, but as we move over to some pictures from snow plows taken recently, we see they too are pretty much clear at this point. New details now in a des moines weekend. Jack ots now the latest on the two people who were shot in the busy bar district of court avenue in Downtown Des Moines just after one am sunday. Today police tell us they think they know who the shooter is. But they arent ready to name that person. The victims were a 23 and 21 year old man the 21 year old died. So is that area safe . Police say this incident doesnt change much. You cant judge any neighborhood based on the actions of an individual, and thats exactly what this is. The person responsible for this is the person who pulled the trigger and thats where our focus is. Jack that homicide was des moines 17th of the year. But the two bodies found in a des moines home earlier today, which we told you about at the top of this newscast, will change that number. Jack we have a shooting to tell you about in the drake neighborhood late last night as well. A man was found shot in the chest and leg in the front yard of a home on cottage hes in the hospital. Police say it was a violent drug deal gone wrong. So far, no arrests. A threat on facebook got a 15 year old arrested today. The threat against Urbandale Middle School surfaced on the schools parentteacher facebook page. Police say it came from a. 15 year old des moines teenager whos not a student at that school. He was arrested this morning, and is charged with harassment. And we have a warning from police on this busy Online Shopping day called cyber monday. Local fives amanda krenz has more. And youll see the delivery workers do a mad dash at every stop. One drop off after another. Sgt. Bryan 11 16 the theives know people will be ordering a lot, delivered to their hous on their front doorstop. Police say all these packages out in the open are attractive targets for people who are willing to break the law. Sgt. Bryan 11 39 they find a truck and start following it around. Jim ohare 16 44 we know from the past, they find trucks. Follow them around and steal parcels off of porches. Jim ohare is the postal inspector for des moines. He says package theives dont strike often but they have noticed an increase in the last 23 years. Jim 15 35 if youre home and you have the ability to get the package off th edoorstep as soon as possible thats always adviseable. Otherwise you should consider having a neighbor pick it up for you. He comes from toledo, where he was head coach from 2011 until this season. Hes a winning coach, with a 35 15 record. And hes young, just 36 years old. Yesterday was his birthday. A big day here at iowa state as the cyclones announce their new head football coach will be Matt Campbell former toledo coach and for Jamie Pollard this was number one on his list. Jack the man accused in the deadly rampage at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic made his initial Court Appearance today. Jack robert dear faced the judge on video from his jail cell in colorado springs. The 57 year old is accused of killing a Police Officer and two others during the siege. The three victims have been identified as Police Officer garrett swasey, as well as a mother of two kids and an iraq war veteran. Nine people the attack. Police say dear was making planned during his arrest. His neighbors describe him as a like president obama. Jack the president urging the action to reverse global warming. Hes in france today, along with nearly 200 World Leaders, for the u. N. Climate change conference. This long planned meeting comes just weeks after the terror attack that killed 130 in paris. President obama says the ongoing Terror Threat should motivate the World Leaders to do more to save the planet. Nw counties had the worst of it with freezing rain and snow with some areas getting more than 6 of accumulation. That is also where roads are still icy in spots. Here in central iowa, we were warm enough for just rain with about 1 4 of rain today. Our temperatures should stay above freezing in the metro most of the night with a few rain or snow showers possible. Most of the showers will be moving north of the so our chances are looking good for decent roads come Tuesday Morning in the metro. However, it will be cold enough by morning in most areas to freeze up any moisture that is left over or falling from the sky. I dont think we will have much precipitation tuesday, but a few snow showers will be possibly mainly late in the day. Wednesday is definitely looking drier, but the clouds could be stubborn to leave us, so i think we will be staying in the 30s for highs. Thursday and friday will be much nicer with sunshine and highs reaching te 40s both days.
