Latest tonight on local 5 news at ten. Std out back to you. Stephanie be sure to stick with local 5 as we update you on this story. Turning now to your statehouse matters. The deadline for medicaid is now 12 days away. More than half a million iowans on medicaid will have their care switched over to private out ofstate companies. Local fives chief Political Correspondent amanda krenz is liive wth an update as we continue our countdown to coverage. Amanda bam at the statehouse today, Senate Democrats and House Republicans spoke candidly about their differences regarding the governors plan to privatize medicaid. Senate democrats are standing firmly by their decision to pass a bill that would stop the whole transition from happening. Standing by their position to not even take that bill up for debate. Pam jochum 4 54 i am calling on the house to take this bill up and gie it a fair hearing. If they are listning to the people they represent, they need to bring this bill up before th eentire iowa house and let there be a vote. Linda miller 46 23 the Medicaid Program is administered by the department of human services. Its not a legislated program. What the legislature does is legislates the amount of money needed for the Medicaid Program or the state match for the Medicaid Program. Amanda bam as weve been telling you, the whole medicaid to managedcare switch cant happen without approval from the federal government. The scheduled roll out date is march first, but the state still has not been given federal approval. Live in the studio, amanda krenz, local five news, jack a car and a suv landed in a front yard this morning following a high speed wreck. The crash happened at 66th street and prairie avenue in urbandale. Thats right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Cops say the silver car blew through a stop sign, hitting the suv. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital, while the other driver was treated on site. Police say speed definitely caused this. Neighbors say speeding and racing along 66th street has been a continuing problem one they cant seem to fix. We have those signs that say children at play, teenagers dont care about those signs theyll race no matter what jack police say charges will likely be filed against the driver of the car. Stephanie taking a look around iowa now and the use of drones on School Grounds the federal Aviation Administration restricts drones near airports and stadiums, but they also allow school districts, cities, and counties to have additional restrictions. Here in iowa, the Independence School district has now banned drones on School Grounds after someone asked to take an aerial photo. Jill kasparie has that story. From sporting events to daily activities theres a lot going on within the Independence School district. Recently that got the school board thinking and taking action. 16 48 15 its more of a proactive approach by us. Were talking about drones, which are becoming more and more popular. 16 46 50 you try to stay on top of those types of things. The district says this policy is all about safety. Need to come up with a policy so that we can control now that drones are more prevalent and more and more people have them, it was best for us to come up with a policy of how we are going to handle this. The new policy says drones arent allowed at any district event, tournament, game and theyre not allowed above schoolowned property for any purpose. The only exception comes with permission from the superintendent. There are drones that crash and with amateurs out there flying drones, you never know with a drone. There are people out there experienced with them with the equipment, but there could be opportunity for some type of incident to happen, so we just want to make sure we are covering ourselves with that. The superintendent says policies are created so the district doesnt react from crisis to crisis, but instead have a plan. And with changing technology this new policy really is a sign of the times. Oc. Stay ahead of things. Stephanie we awant to hear from you if you have a story you want us to look into. Send local 5 news your news tips. Email us at news at we are iowa dot com.
