Will things finally clear up later today . Gervais. Welcome back to abc columbia news at 12 30. A very rainy monday afternoon. Right now, at least it is warm. 60 degrees. But rain steadily falling here and likely to see that continue for much of the afternoon. Winds are calm. So not really moving that rain one way or another north or south. We are expecting this line to gradually slide from south to north. But right now, kind of hanging out over the area and bringing us more and more rain. Dew points at 58 degrees. Air temperatures at 60. So pretty much a saturated atmosphere for us. Thats going to obviously be a big result of all this rain that were seeing right now. Look for more rain to fall over the area and see this nice Little Orange and yellow. Thats the lightning and thunder that were experiencing at the moment but these scattered thunderstorms are very, very isolated within this pocket of rain and this Little Finger extension of rain going from essentially dissecting the state from west to east right now. So main band of the rain is right over us. Thats why were seeing the most of the rain. 83 for us. So weve actually seen almost a 10th of an inch of rain since we came on the air in the last 20 minutes or so. Steady rain continuing to fall for us. Almost 1 2 inch in the airport not seeing that much. Orangeburg reporting zero at the moment. Were not getting any recordings from bishopville unfortunately. So cant hardly compare the data there but were seeing a very rainy setup across much of the area. I expect those numbers shape up similar to what were seeing downtown. Numbers, temperaturewise, have been pretty ch right here all day. We started out right around 60 degrees. Downtown this morning. Did see a few spots dip to around 55. That was about as cool as we got. And right now, still around 59d, 60 degrees. They didnt have any reports of rainfall. So i do think a lot of the temperature change from one area to the other is due to that rainfall. Thats pulling down cooler air from the upper parts of the atmosphere keeping us a little bit cool at the moment. Once that rain slides to the north as expected, i do think well see temperatures kind of rebound accordingly. Winds right now have been pretty much all over the place. Not that breezy. Pretty calm, five to seven Miles Per Hour for the areas that are seeing the wind. North from the northern counties, winds out of the south from the southern counties so this is going to cause that boundary that right now is being shown as a cold front, thats going to pretty much stall out over the area and eventually become a stationary boundary that will keep this line in place for the next couple of days. Well look for this band of rain. Main source is out towards the gulf and over towards alabama, and mississippi. Those areas there. This finger of rain thats moving across the area right now, thats going to continue to hang out for a little while. It is slowly trudging to the north. Well keep the rain chances in place. I think it tapers off a little bit later on tonight. But temperatures are going to stay and nice for us. One good thing were look for out of this system. Heres the fronths boundary right now, we have the High Pressure from the north and low pressure moving in. This is going to stall out over the area and bring us continued chance of rain. Now, were seeing a gd deal of rain right now but i do think well see eventually some of this slide a little bit to the north and give us a break from this impending rainfall. Now, were looking for some strong storms to come our way on were certainly watching that. Temperatures will be a little bit warmer. Thunderstorm activity is likely. Severe storms are possible for us. Well keep an eye on that and be tracking that system as it moves our way from kind of texas today and then coming our way on wednesday. After that, were back to the sunshine. But it will be a little bit cooler for us. All right. Thank you, jonathan. Up next, were counting down to oscar. A review of some of the best picture nods. Gervais. 33 week, and a number of hollywood films are up for the number of hollywood filmsre up for the biggest golden statue for best picture and this week, our movie reviewer matt perron nods. Tonight, our matt reviews the oscar nominated brooklyn. Welcome to another monday. Sorry i wont be doing my normal musing but its day four of the oscars overview which means its time to review another one of our nominees that this one is based on fiction. Even though its a made up story, it seems to be a story that could have happened in the 1950s. So with no further pause, lets go ahead and jump right in to the romance drama, brooklyn. Our film begins in 1950s ireland. Eyeless lacy has received a sponsorship from an irish priest to move to america to have a better life. She finds herself in a land where she knows no one. She lives in a boarding house with other girls and has a job at a local department store. Despite the new opportunities, shes weighed down by home sickness and finds herself home with her sister and mother. Attempting to get past these feelings being she participates in community activities. At a local dance, she meets tony. An italian boy she begins seeing on a regular basis who is as outgoing she is shy. Before long, she finds herself spending all of her available time with him going on excursions and even meeting his family to which she becomes endeared. Just as shes coming into her own and out of her shell becoming happy and comfortable in her new life, she gets word that her sister has diedly suddenly in ireland and makes arrangements to travel home. To make sure she has reason to return, tony and her have a quick wedding so shell hurry back. She quickly falls back into small town life in ireland and begins filling in at her sisters vacated position to help out and reconnects with her mother. She decides to stay an extra month to attend and be part of her best friends wedding. Somewhere in the mix, she also meets jim. A local welltodo boy who she seems to mesh very well with. As the time passes, she finds herself growing more and more comfortable and somehow ignoring her heart now exists in two places and she is attached to the life in each. As it becomes harder and harder to leave, we wait to see exactly which path she will choose. Much like the movie room, i had absolutely no idea what this film was about once i walked into the theater. Now ive seen it, i have a few thoughts. First off, i cant imagine what its like to have the courage to do what these people did. Leaving my home, moving half way around the world to a place where i dont know a soul is a very intimidating thought indeed. That being said, i kept thinking man, that girl has a pretty sweet deal lined up. She got room and board and she had a job waiting for her when she got to brooklyn. Not the scenario i imagined when i picture our ancestors coming over and emigrating into the country for work and better lives. The acting is pretty stellar and you find yourself relating to the characters very easily. I do think it was a good movie but i couldnt help as i was was a Nicholas Sparks film. Thats how it flowed to me. An independent girl torn between two lives and two loves, what is she going to do . I mean, it is a good movie. I dont think its going to walk away a best picture winner. Like i said, to me, it seems like every Nicholas Sparks movie ive been forced to watch. Well, this has been your oscars overview. Were halfway there be sure to tune in tomorrow as we start the down slope to the last four nominees. Back to you. Thank you, matt. Remember, the oscars airs sunday night, february 28th. You can catch the glitz and glamour right here. Forecast. Well, rainy monday forecast. See cloudy skies and at least its relatively warm for us. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 60s. Rain will be hanging out for much of the afternoon. I think well carry that into tonight and even that evening mmute looks a little messy for us. Be in the 60s. More scattered rain tomorrow. Better chance of rain and strong thunderstorms possibly coming our way on wednesday. So well be tracking those through the next couple of days. After that, finally some sunshine for the weekend. We will deserve it. All right, jonathan. Youve been watching abc columbia news at 12 30. See you back here at 6 00. Always on line abccolumbia. Com. If you go outside today, grab that umbrella.
