The decisions not to file criminal charges following the deaths of eric garner and Michael Brown has spurred a national conversation, a conversation because race and accountability. Correspondent marley hall is in manhattan with the latest. Reporter thousands of demonstrators filled the streets of manhattan for a second night of protests theyre upset with the grand jurys decision not to charge new York City Police officer Daniel Pantaleo for the apparent chokehold death of eric garner. Eric garner mike brownism alexis is also protesting last months decision by a missouri grand jury not to charge former ferguson avenue Darren Wilson for the shooting death of Michael Brown. Im sick and tired of seeing black men around this country getting killed by police and no accountability, no repercussions. Reporter some taunted the responding but reserved police. This officer even supplied traffic cones to alert drivers to a protesters standing in the middle of the street. The demonstrators were not bound by skin color orgy i dont go gravy. Protesters clogged the Brooklyn Bridge stormed the kennedy expressway in chicago, shut downer state 35 in minneapolis and marched through boston common. The protesters say theyre not buying officer pantaleos statement that he didnt mean to harm garner. Hes still facing an internal nypd investigation. The temple protesters were peaceful today. There were no arrests made. Meantime the Police Department in cleveland is under fire. A Justice Department probe has found a pattern of officers using excessive force. Federal investigators cited the use of guns, tasers and chemical sprays all used inappropriately particularly on people who were mentally ill. The results of this federal review come less than a month after a cleveland officer shot and killed a 12yearold boy who was carrying a air pistol. That incident is still under investigation tonight. Well, new at 10 oclock the fbi is now asking businesses in manayunk for video from their surveillance cameras as they search for the missing West Chester University student shane montgomery. Shane vanished after leaving a manayunk bar early on thanksgiving morning. Now investigators are specifically interested in video in the area that is bounded by the schuylkill river, green lane, henry avenue and lincoln drive. Investigators believe that a fire that tore through a Police Detectives home in lower pottsgrove township may have been intentionally set. Eyewitness News Reporter walt hunter tells us tonight neighbors on common drive are helping that officer and his familiar who lost everything. Just days before christmas. Reporter flames destroyed the home where Limerick Township Police detective gene morris lived with his wife and two teen daughters. The detective personally taking time to thank each firefighter who tried so hard to save his house. The flames were pretty much all you could see until they started dousing it with water. Then it was all the smoke. I could feel the heat from it from my porch. Reporter investigators searched carefully to determine the cause of the fire which sources say was considered potentially suspicious. Still being investigated. Theres no answer to what happened. It was shocking when i saw their house and even around the back, its really bad. If they were in there, they wouldnt be around anymore. Reporter the detective and his family were vacationing in florida when the fire broke out. Decorations still on a light post in the front yard are a reminder of a Holiday Season now darkened by fiery devastation. In lower pottsgrove township, pocket county, im walt hunter, Eyewitness News on the cw philly. Well, tonight an 86yearold woman is dead after an explosion and fire destroyed her home in scranton. Neighbors say that the flames from that blast shot about 50 feet in the air. The home exploded around 3 45 this morning and took firefighters several hours before things were under control. Utility crews also responded to reports of a gas odor about 40 minutes before the blast. They did turn off service to the area before it happened. Well, three puppies found in terrible conditions inside of a north philadelphia warehouse last month are getting a second chance. The warehouse in the 1800 block of sedgley avenue was filled with booby traps. Mount laurel Animal Hospital has been treating those puppies for upper respiratory infections and severe cases of mange. Well, the three named lionel, walter and norman are now expected to make full recoveries. Have still a lot of hair loss but their hair is coming in and these guys in a few months you wont even know they had this condition. The three dogs will be in foster care by the end of this week and then theyll be up for adoption. Well, the former Philadelphia Traffic Court judge Thomasine Tynes is headed to prison. Today a federal judge sentenced tynes to two years. She had been charged with lying to authorities in a wide ranging ticket fixing case. The judge rejected a defense request for house arrest or probation for the 71yearold. Tynes was also ordered to pay a 5,000 fine. Got an update tonight for you on that hepatitis a scare in Hamilton Township new jersey. Officials say a suspected second case was a false alarm. This morning doctors said that a 77yearold man initially tested positive for hepatitis but it turned out to be a false positive.
