Its tuesday night and the big story on action news tonight is a close brush with catastrophe for a motorist on 676. A metal bar being used for construction on the ben franklin parkway above her crashed on to her moving car. Reporter its no secret that construction crews have been in the area making repairs to bridges for quite some time but Lindsey Richards never imagined metal would fall on her car and shatter some windows and land on her dog. It hit right here shattering like the frame. Reporter a mid morning drive became petrifying behind the wheel. The next thing its flying through the back. Reporter Lindsey Richards claims traveling under the 20th street bridge this foot long piece of metal fell on to her car. We didnt know what happened and the cars behind us saw it too so i dont know if anyone is going through the same thing right now. Reporter after it went through the windshield and shattered the back window she and her boyfriend said it hit their dog in the torso sitting in the back seat. A little sensitive but more shook and you know just and shocked still. Reporter its unclear if the falling debris is construction related or old age of the bridge but that strip of highway in center city is under going four years of repairs as part of penn dot 65 million to preplace structurally deficient bridges including 20 street and its penn dot project say the contractors held responsible for damage in the work zone and making buckley and Company Aware of the quote falling debris. Gunshots rang out again in southWest Philadelphia tonight. Police responded to the 5600 block of ridge wood street at 8 30, officers found a 25yearold man shot in the stomach, they took him to penn Presbyterian Hospital where he is now in Critical Condition and the last week and a half police in the southwest Detective Division responded to at least nine shootings, two of them were deadly. In West Philadelphia tonight a 37yearold was shot twice in the head and once in the neck. The incident happened on the 5100 block of irving street at 6 30 and rushed to penn presbyterian where he is in Critical Condition, police are searching for a shooter. The family of a man gunned down in delaware over the weekend is sharing his story in hopes of catching his killer. 66yearold Charles Mayes was shot several times while driving near the 2200 block of lamont street in willington saturday afternoon and rushed to the hospital but did not survive and his sister says the recent out break of violence in wilmington has been hard to comprehend.
