The caribbeans tropical reefs are as diverse as they are beautiful. And today, im trading my safari suit for a wetsuit. Were making a difference for our reefs. Look at that. That is gorgeous. Those are baby corals. And heading a thousand feet under the sea. Id want to come in here every day. With this thing here, were going places where nobody has gone. Check it out next, as we head into the wild. In the southern caribbean sea, just 35 miles off the coast of venezuela is the Island Country of curacao. The former dutch colony is small in size, measuring only 170 square miles. But its rich in adventure, especially if you love wildlife. A lot of people dont know where the island of curacao is. I know i wouldnt unless id gone to bonaire. Its called the abc islands, and theyre off the coast of south america. Curacao is located the closest island to, like, venezuela. And its a beautiful place. Beaches, the water Crystal Clear and the wildlife there, especially the aquatic life, is just spectacular. The lions dive and beach resort is our home base for todays adventure. They have a perfect beachside location and run an environmentally responsible business, which means the world to us. Sue and i wanted to go to curacao was the fact that we knew that the sea aquarium had a submarine. One of the latest built submarines, by the way. You go down to a thousand feet, can you imagine this . And i must say, we were excited to get on this thing and go there and see what its like. Well, right here we are in curacao, with the curasub, and bruce, our pilot here. Hi, jack. I hope hes a good pilot, cause were going down in the submarine several hundred feet. So, this thing here, whats in here . Batteries. So what do the batteries do, power it . Yeah, they power the whole sub. Everythings electrically operated. I mean, we got the motors right here, got six of them total. Oh, six of these . Yeah, six. I mean, the mains to go forward and reverse. Weve got the verticals. All right. So we can go up and down. So the batteries operate all of this . Batteries operate everything. As you come back here, it looks like a vacuum hose. Weve got two minuets on this sub, the big arm, we call it, and the small arm. Weve got the system set up. We can sample specimens. Basically what we do is we pump water, displace water, and well get suction on this hose. Oh, i see. So, well suck through this hose, little fish grabs shells or anything that fits in here, could be even like little bit of sand samples, yeah. Where does that go . Goes right in the fish keep. Right in there. So the little fish way at the bottom of the ocean go in here. C
