In other news tonight the daughter of a local police chief is accused of using offensive slurs and throwing punches in an attack on a gay couple in center city. Katherine knox is fighting the charges against her. Today in court one of the victims testified. Action News Reporter trish harder man is live outside the courthouse with details on todays testimony. Trish. Reporter well, rick, day two of testimony in the trial for katherine knox. A bloody shirt was shown on the stand. One of the jurors actually left the courtroom in a hurry after he looked at photos showing the victims injuries. He later returned though to hear more about the investigation into the beating of a gay couple in center city 25yearold Katherine Knott of southampton is the only one who close to go to trial in this case. Her codefendants Kevin Harrigan of warrington and Philip Williams of warminster pleaded guilty and were sentenced to probation and jail time. Prosecutors say the three were part of a group involved in the beating of a gay couple on september 11th 2014 in the 1600 block of chancellor street alleging that knot took part in the beating and used gay slurs while doing it. Both victims suffered black eyes. 28yearold andrew told jurors his face was broken in several places and identified knot as one of the attackers. He testified girl especially was really intense which i was surprised about. He went ton say his jaw will to be wired shut saying for eight weeks i ate only broth. I lost about 15 pounds. I was emaciated. Witness Michelle Moore said she saw the fight and stayed until Police Arrived saying one was on the ground with blood. I thought he was dead. The other was stumbling around like he was looking for something. Defense attorneys pointed out discrepancies having to do with knots dress chlorinate. Moore testified a woman was punching a man on the ground. She had blond hair. That all i can remember. It looked like she had a whitish and black dress. The victim previousological testified that knot was wearing a white dress. William brennan is a defense attorney sitting in on the case. The defense seems to be doing a pretty effective job of saying that while she was with the group, she was merely present. Reporter now, the judge in this case has issued a gag order meaning that the attorneys and the witnesses are not allowed to speak to the media. The trial is expected to last for about one week. The two companies have brought the world products ranging from ziploc bags to teflon. The newly re88ed dow dupont will separate into three companies and theyll focus on agriculture material science and specialty products. In fact its become a growing demand for pork roll in the garden state and for one company in trenton that specializes in pork roll, well, business is anything but a boar. Sorry. Reporter things have busy at the case pork roll factory in trenton tucked away in a small building on washington street in chambersberg a staff of 40 cranks out 5 Million Pounds of pork roll a year. Seems like recently there its very popular. People in new jersey are very, very passionate about their pork roll. Reporter with clients like walmart, costco, shop rite, not to mention lots of delis and diners, case is now adding another slicing line like this to keep up with demand. Were going to double this line here so we could actually do double the production. Reporter at cases pork volume made with ham trimmings and seasoning, no fillers. Its loaded into bags that look like long tubes then stone a giant smoker that uses hickory ships. Thats what were known for is the hickory flavored smosh pork roll. We do it the Old Fashioned way. Weve been in business since 1870. Reporter the production line is expanding because business is expanding. Apparently more and more people are finding out about pork roll and they like it. My kids love it. Pork roll and cheese on bread without bred dont matter. Go out of the trenton area they dont know about it. So, its basically just around this area, maybe 20, 30mile area. Once you get there if youre trying to head southbound towards that sixers game theres a crash approaching cottman off to the side. Speeds from woodhaven down to cottman just around 12 miles per hour. Demonstration by city hall. Around penn square watch out for congestion especially along broad street. Still have a bad crash in souderton this evening blocking off Harleysville Pike 113. Reliance road gets you around that. Truck flipped over in newark on 95 northbound past 896. Single digit speeds there. You could use route 40 as an alternate but theres also an accident there near peoples plaza by the burger king so stay up on kirkwood highway as urinal. Kirkwood highway is also your alternate around old capitol trail. Westbound lanes blocked because of a gas main break this afternoon. Chopper6 hd was over the scene as several dozen activists rallied outside of city hall to protest any changes to the citys current antideportation policy. Theyre upset that mayor Michael Nutter wants to revoke philadelphias sanctuary city status. The mayor has vowed to roll back an executive order barring Law Enforcement cooperation between city police and federal immigration and Customs Enforcement agents but any change could be short lived. Mayor elect jim kenney promised to reinstate the policy when he takes office in january. On health check tonight a workout some celebrities swear by and now its come to philadelphia. Thats right. And it promises to be different than other fitness classes and help make your body leaner. Health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us at the big board with the details. It was definitely different for me. Its known as a mega former workout. Its different than a pilates reformer class and in shape magazine last year actress Sophia Vergara says she used it to get ready for her wedding. Now a studio is open in philadelphia so i tried it out. You can just easily move the resistance up and down. Stephanie first gives me a run down on the mega former. Shes the owner of the new sculpt Fitness Studio or sfs in northern liberties. Classes there use the mega former n3s. Its a system of moving platforms, springs, handles, straps and cables. Stephanie says she took a class using the machine in new york city and wanted to bring it to philadelphia. I was never so challenged by a workout in my life. The workout was inves indiana vented by a former french body builder. After my quick tutorial the real work began its a 50 minute intense Strength Training workout. So, everything is worked slow and controlled. Youre going into slow twitch muscle fibers versus fast twitch muscle fibers isnt she says that helps to tone and lengthen your muscles. Hugging of the midline to bring you back up. And it works the whole body including your thighs obliques backside and upper body. The balance work strengthens your midsection and even throw youre not moving fast, it will get your heart pumping. Theresa low started classes a few weeks ago. I love it. I havent been back to my other gym since ive done my first class here. Both she and friend stephanie say it looks a lot easier than it is. And you will see results. For the first couple times i couldnt even walk or sit down. It totally makes you sore all over the place in a good way. If you come two to three times a week in a month you will definitely see some changes in your body. Reducing infant mortality was the topic of this town hall meeting today involving families in camden. Health experts kicked offer the camden Healthy Start Program in some neighborhoods. The seven day Farmers Market opened here on the 3900 block of Lancaster Pike right where the pathmark used to be. The store actually hired back many of the workers who lost their jobs when the pathmark closed. The manager says in addition to Fresh Produce and other groceries this store will focus on international and ethnic foods. This time of year is best spent with friends and family and thats what folks did at Pennsbury High School today. This is the 18th annual Senior Citizen holiday dinner. More than 200 seniors were there from centers throughout the area. They joined students for a full nutritious dinner. They also enjoyed entertainment courtesy of some of the very talented kids. Nice. If you look out across central pennsylvania, there are some breaks in the clouds but more clouds across the midwest. So, this weekend is going to be warm but it wont be completely bright and sunny.
