Reporter monica and rick, 24yearold officer James Mccullough is said to be resting comfortably here at penn presbyterian tonight. The commissioner said today he is understandably exhausted. He was up all night and had many, many visitors but the good news, he will be fine. Meantime the young man accused of shooting him is in Police Custody along with an accomplice. All day fellow officers came to visit officer James Mccullough at penn presbyterian where he is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg. At 1 00 this afternoon here in the 1200 block of alden in West Philadelphia, Police Arrested 23yearold Scott Griffin, the man accused of shooting him. Undercover narcotics officers actually saw him. They approached him, took him into can you do and he actually has a weapon on him. Reporter this unfolded last night before 9 oclock. Meals say two suspects, one of them griffin robbed a man in the 5900 block of market street. During robbery the pair took the keys to the victims ford expedition. At market the suspects tried to drive off in a Dodge Durango mistaking it for the ford. A woman saw the two men in her durango and flagged on officer mccullough who chased one suspect identified as samir coyett but lost him. He actually ran past the first individual he robbed and his friends who caught up with him physically subdued him until the police came and arrested him. Reporter back at market officer mccullough got into a confrontation with the second suspect. Theres a slight wrestling, tussling right then and there and then the suspect starts to take you have. Officer mccullough starts to chase him. At that point he turns, he shoots and he shoots him one time in the leg. Reporter officer mccullough applied his own tourniquet and his partner rushed him to the hospital. The 18th district officer joined the force in 2014. This is him playing rugby with a team in northeast philadelphia. He has a fiance an twoyearold daughter. Were just happy that officer mccullough is going to recover and hes going to be okay but his partner responded the way he was supposed to as well as all the men and women out there and they continue to make us proud. The Ocean Temperatures only 53 degrees so that has a big impact on the air temperatures. Temperatures on the beaches generally just in the low to mid 60s. Now, satellite6 along with action radar showing we are still cloud free, but if you look over Northern New York state you can see some clouds beginning to move in. Right now officials in texas are trying the figure out if two, two, deaths there are actually storm related. Officials say more than a foot of rain fell in and around houston last night and it appears that the worst of the storm may have passed. But that rain triggered flooding that closed schools, brought air traffic to a halt and left people stranded on their roofs. Others were forced to abandon their cars in the flood waters including one man helped by a reporter from our sister station in houston. Got to get out. What value i do. Swim. What . Swim. Swim. What shall i do. Leave the car. Swim. Are you okay, sir. Im okay. Im soak oak. The driver said he didnt think the flood waters were deep enough to sink his car. The water moving swiftly after whats being called a historic rain event here in the city which started in the overnight hours. Right over here you can see as the water comes up over the bank it seeps over out onto the streets and then into the homes that we cant even get to at this point but we do know that hundreds of water rescues have happened since the overnight hours throughout the morning and throughout the day today. Also as we mentioned, about a hundred subdivisions affectd in this area with houses that are flooded. But right now we are getting just a break from the rain. We are expecting more rain tonight. The tally still not done yet on how many homes have been flooded and how many water rescues have been performed by emergency officials here but we are keeping tabs on things in houston and keeping our fingers crossed that the rain lets up soon.
