Lets get right over to meteorologist cecily tynan at the action news big board. Cecily how long will the rain stick around. Rick, along the shore the rain, the steady rain should be moving out within the next hour or two, which is good because it has been a washout down the shore. Double scan live showing the big picture. Weve got this low pressure that used to be Tropical Storm bonnie and what this is doing is supplying that steady rain right along the coast. At the same time theres a cold front thats beginning to push into the western suburbs and this does have a broken line of some storms. A lot of those storms should be breaking apart but what this front will do is finally pushing that moisture across the shore out to sea. Well begin to dry things out but zooming in you can see that the heaviest rain right now has just slipped off the coast but we still have a steady rain along the garden state parkway from cape may beyond Atlantic City. It has been a washout on the beaches. But the situation will gradually improve. So, this is what to expect. That rain will be ending along coast within the next hour or two but we could see a few scattered evening showers and thunderstorms with that cold front. The best chance areas north and west. Tomorrow clouds breaking for sun and we finally get rid of this tropical humidity. Ill have all the details on that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. Sharrie he. Cecily thank you. Beaches were near empty today but the wet weather did not stop some of these people from walking the boardwalk. Here on lemon hill this Group Brought pickle to their picnic and set up chairs planning to do plenty of relaxing on a day that turned out to be pretty okay for an outdoor affair. I think were just elated that the rain held off and were able to get out here day. It is wet down here in cape may county, it is a very slow crawl as well on the northbound side of the garden state parkway, rick and sharrie, were barely moving here in the northbound lanes where the great egg tolls sit on the southbound side of the fence. And this sort of pace extends the whole way from sea isle through this point up to the a. C. Expressway this afternoon. Weve been looking at delays like this since 10 00 this morning and they continue in full force this afternoon with speeds like 13 Miles Per Hour on the northbound parkway. If youre taking the back roads along 50 dont forget weve got that bridge Construction North of tuckahoe. What theyre doing now is theyre letting only northbound traffic through there so coming southbound you cant get into tuckahoe. The bridge is closed to you this afternoon. On the a. C. Expressway, its not terrible once you get there having all the toll lanes back at the egg harbor toll plaza definitely helping us out. Once you good tote 42 moderate to heavy traffic in the northbound lanes by creek road headed up toward 295. Coming into jersey at the delaware Memorial Bridge speeds in the 20s coming out of new castle and in New Castle County in newark a truck flipped over so 273 is closed there by the post office at 72. Stick with 72 instead. Also dont forget were on strange schedules acrosstheboard on mass transit. In most cases the Holiday Schedule is a sunday schedule. The county Health Department must give clearance for the pool to reopen. In health check tonight, the department of Veterans Affairs wants to dramatically expand the role of nurses to cut down on wait times at va hospitals. Under the new proposal nurses would be allowed to prescribe medication, administer anesthesia and order and read diagnostic tests, all without a doctors supervision. Only nurses with advanced training would be given more responsibility. A new program will help a man and mans best friend battle cancer better. Veterinarians and doctors at Ohio State University have teamed up with nationwide Childrens Hospital to speed up research in osteosarcoma a bone cancer in children. Dogs get a similar cancer but studies take a fraction of the 10 years needed to develop new drugs for humans. For years you have an answer and then you dont have to lose that time on the human side. Makes a very big difference in terms of impacting how Clinical Trials are run on the human side. There are already two studies under way on the new drugs to slow down the bone cancer in dogs. [gunfire] Veterans Community and Church Members gathered this morning at the war memorial in Delaware County for a service of remembrance. It fired ceremonial shots and placed flags and flowers in front of the memorial on providence road at woodlawn avenue. Resurrection Center Fellowship hall. Members of the community and Council Members recognized the 964 veterans buried at riverview cemetery. The ceremony had to be moved indoors because of the rain. Nearly 40,000 Striking Verizon employees will return to work on mens. This comes after they reached a tentative contract agreement. That agreement includes 1300 new call center jobs, nearly 11 percent in raises and the first contract for verizon workers. Union members will vote on the deal after returning to work. Land line and cable employees have been on strike since mid april. Other workers stepped in but there were some holdouts. This memorial day could mean some good deals if youre in the market for a new car. Experts are predicting sales to individual customers will be down for the month of may.
