To attend a rally in tampa, florida where there is heavy speculation that she could andy announce her pick for Vice President. Clinton is already in florida but has refused to answer all reporters questions. She began her day in orlando with a round table conversation and then visited the memorial at the pulse nightclub where of course 49 people were gunned down in a rampage last month. She left a bouquet of roses at that site. Well of course let you know as soon as we know had when she announces who her running mate will be whether that comes today or not. [cheers and applause] and division and finally culminated in a 75 minute speech by donald trump last night accepting the republican nomination. Now trump apparently wasnt finished so he held a News Conference today bouncing from topic to topic including the conventions most controversial speech by far delivered by ted cruz. Dont wander his endorse. If he gives it i will not accept it. If he giver it i will not accept it. Wont matter. Honestly he should have done it because nobody cares. Trump also thanked his supporters and took time to praise his speech last night. He said the reason the speech was so long the longest in Convention History by a nominee is because there was so much applause. As you heard at the start our newscast this evening another mass shooting is unfolding right now in germany, one of so many that have taken place over the last several months here and around the world. One more Reason Police in philadelphia are spending final moments leading up to the convention firming up their security plan. Action News Reporter chad pradelli joins us live from fdr park in south philadelphia where many of the protestors are expected to converge safety is priority number one, chad. Reporter yeah, brian, fdr park is also going to be called protest park. You can see some of the Emergency Services apparatus already in place. Theres a Philadelphia Fire Department Emergency Medical Services special Event Response Team truck. Over here you have a first aid station. Its air conditioned. There are cots inside im told by the city there will be misting stations and water provided for the thousands of protestors expected. Fencing surrounds fdr park a heavy Police Presence is visible at city hall and thomas paine plaza. Security is already tightening around philadelphia. Thousands are expected to protest next week but city officials believe problems will be minimal. First amendment is the First Amendment cause it was the most important amendment for them because it came first and this is the city that celebrates that and were going to keep everybody safe, everybody happy and were going to have a good time. Reporter behind the scenes preparations have been under way for months. The dnc has received more than 40 million in federal funds for security. Jack dui marcio is the security expert and former under secretary for homeland security. Biggest thing i worry about in any of these types of events is the lone wolf, the individual that wants to make a statement who completely goes below the radar screen. Reporter there are no known threats to the convention. He says upwards of 100 Law Enforcement agencies have been planning for the event. They plan for the worst even creating teams to think like an attacker or disrupter. He calls the National Security event a massive coordination. Its a full court press and its going to be a full court press until the last delegate or the president ial nominee leaves town and this thing is closed down. Reporter and the city is used to securing major events. The rnc came here in 2000 and you had the papal visit. The message remains the same, if you see something, say something. Im live in south philadelphia, chad pradelli channel6 action news. All right, critically important that everyone is vigilant. Chad thank you so much. Things could get heated next week in more ways than one. Were talking temperatures in the upper 90s over the last several days or rather in the next several days. Could feel higher than 100 when you factor in the heat index. Action News Reporter Trish Hartman now on the Art Museum Steps with more on that part of this story. Hi, trish. Reporter hi, brian, we will people will soon start to pour into philadelphia either for the convention itself or the Many Convention related attractions spread about town and as those temperatures continues to rise, the city wants to make sure everyone stays safe whether theyre attending the convention protesting or working. Hundreds of bottles of water are loaded into Salvation Army vehicles at a facility on north broad street as the temperatures continue to rise dozens of volunteers will be tasked with keeping First Responders safe during the dnc. Today is a big push day where were just kind of setting the table for the long week ahead. Reporter Disaster Services coordinator bob meyer says hydration was always part of their job for the dnc but with extreme temperatures in the forecast, theyre stepping up their game. Were really targeting First Responder personnel and support staff that are working sort of like those long days out on the perimeter and staging areas standing on asphalt all day long. Reporter that includes police. We found these Police Officers in need of extra water this afternoon as they patrolled the area of the Wells Fargo Center. Over the next few days meyer says his crews will be mobilizing. Association really designed for functionality. Reporter at least one of these canteen trucks will be stationed at the Wells Fargo Center to keep police and other workers fed and hydrated. The food and water was purchased by the city but the manpower will come from the Salvation Army which will also help stock medical stations for protestors at fdr park. Mayor jim kinney says the city has a plan to make sure everyone stays safe. We are taking great efforts to make sure the people who are expressing their First Amendment rights are comfortable and have misting tents and medical facilities and medic units on stand by. Reporter and they also say extra pallets of water will be dropped off each day to demonstration areas the dont have access to drinking water.
