WPVI Action News 5PM April 26, 2017

They made connect and shortly thereafter the struggle ensued and at this time one of the two suspects exits the vehicle and proceeded to fire several rounds striking the trooper. He pushed off and ran. Pushed him and ran. I didnt understand it because i thought he was trying to push him to get away and he pushed him and started shooting. And there were several people here at the wawa parking lot that rendered aid to the downed state trooper but unsuccessfully he was pronounced dead. I am told he is a trooper at troop 2 and relatively new to the troop. But one suspect remains hold up at the neighborhood in brick mills. And he continues to fire on police. Im live in bear, delaware, chad pradelli, channel 6 action news. All right thank you. The neighborhood where the suspect is hiding out as chad mentioned is 15 miles away from the location where the state trooper was shot. Police believe that the gunman jumped into a car and drove to polanski highway to Saint Michaels drive. Annie mccormick is live now. Reporter that lock down was lifted and right now negotiators are trying to get the suspect to surrender, they say that the suspect remains barricaded inside of his home. This is chop video shortly after police did arrive to that neighborhood on the 500 block of Saint Michaels drive in the brick mill farm development. Witnesses heard dozens of shots fired and the suspect lives in the neighborhood with his family but is alone inside. The family is not there we are told. Troopers have surrounded the house and they say they got help from the public as you heard from chads interview that led them here to the suspects home. They know the suspects identify did you are not releasing it at this time. There was a lock down for schools, and a field trip for the Elementary School. Those buses were diverted. We spoke to a woman on the bus with her niece while her nephew was inside of the home. And people in the neighborhood are still waiting not able to get home. I learned it on the bus. Brick mill did a good job about not letting them know on the field trip but they did let us parents know what had happened and we just got back to the school right now. They let me pick up my niece and nephew to take them home. But the School System is good in protecting these kids when they put the lock down right away. We were about to leave my neighborhood, like three cop cars lights on floored it and ran right past us and five minutes later my mom called me and said shots were going on in the neighborhood. Police stress to the residents that are waiting now to try to get back inside of their home that is a dangerous situation and need to stay away from the neighborhood. And there is no telling when they will be allowed back in because the suspect is inside of the home and continuously firing at police as Police Negotiators work to try to get him to surrender.
