WPVI Action News 5PM June 16, 2017

To show you what its been like outside the courthouse, this was easily the most notable event here today. Free bill cosby, free bill cosby, free bill reporter a group of cosby supporters here just a strikes me as noteworthy that there has been relatively littlestratr either side of this case, a case with societal implications. Not much public demonstration here in front of the courthouse this week. Joining me tonight is action News Reporter dann cuellar. Good evening, ann. Reporter . Reporter good evening, jim. For the sixth time today or for the sixth time now bill cosbys defense team has asked the judge to declare a mistrial and for the sixth time the judge says no. The jury has now paused deliberations 10 times to revisit testimony or ask for clarity on one thing or another. Late today, cosbys Spokesman Says they remain hopeful. I have a a lot of faith in this jury. I think this jury is looking at theyre retrying the case. Ents, more are they going ask the opening arguments . I think they have all the evidence now that they could ever want. Reporter the 79yearold courthouse looking tired from the wear of the prolonged trial an old man ostensibly lookin his nightmare appears to be coming to an end and perhaps there was a hopeful note to that end when the jury asked for the definition of reasonable doubt but those hopes may have been dashed when the jury also asked for about a dozen excerpts from cosbys deposition in which he talks about obtaining quaaludes to give to women he wanted to have sex with. They also asked for the portion of constands testimony where she talks about telephone calls to cosby as well as phone records introduced as evidence. In addition they asked to hear a portion of her mothers testimony where she talks about her two and a half hour phone conversation with cosby about a year after the sexual encounter a call in which gianna apologized and described himself as a quote unquote sick man. The defense dam argued that the jury essentially wants to hear the whole trial all over again. Deliberating now for more than 40 hours, that a mistrial should be declared but the judge ascan deliberate as long y want. The jury still actively deliberating. There is no reason, well, more importantly, there is no case be court in support of a trial whia jury is actively deliberating. Reporter now, as far as the jury working this weekend if need be, the judge has given no indication that he will make that happen. But his staff s possible and that he could rule as late as tonight if there is no verdict. Jim. Thank you dann. I think the operative thing thing is possible. And we stand here waiting for any possibility. We will be here in the event of a verdict or any Major Development, we will tell you, we can break in other programming and of course we will post any new development on the 6abc news app. That is the situation here at the courthouse. Theres the beach and you can see the rip currents. Were dealing with a lot of low level moisture and a lot of fog as well so weve got a constant flow of moisture coming in from the atlantic so if youre at the shore tonight right into tomorrow rip currents are a big concern. Moderate to high risk of rip currents. Weve got a strong on shore wind so piling up of water. If you are at the shore over the weekend it is a good idea to swim where you have lifeguards on duty and where the guarded beaches are there as well. Right now as we look at the heat index across the region 85 degrees in philadelphia when you factor in the heat and the humidity. 75 in reading, 72 in allentown at the coast in cape may, 73. Atlantic city 83, dover coming in in the lower 80s as well. Here is satellite6 along with action radar. Weve got a mostly cloudy sky across the region but if you look off to the west were tracking a little bit of precipitation moving across western pennsylvania. And also the virginias as well. Some of this moisture will start to fall apart as we lose the heating of the day but a few showers could move on in here later tonight. So, future tracker six showing you that 10 oclock later tonight weve got showers for the city, areas to the south and west. It will continue during the overnight hours and first thing as you wake up tomorrow morning, 8 30 in the morning some spotty showers for the poconos and allentown and also up the 95 corridor there in trenton. Well repeat the pattern as we get into tomorrow afternoon. You have the warmth and the building humidity as this warm front and this frontal boundary wants to lift northward. 4 30 tomorrow afternoon scattered showers, even a rumble of thunder overhead. Its not a washout but with the building heat and the humidity, you do have the threat of a popup shower or a rumble of thunder. Future tracker6 also showing you 4 oclock tomorrow afternoon when you factor in the humidity, its going to feel like in philadelphia were close to 93 degrees, same thing in dover, close to 90. In wilmington the upper 70s, in allentown, however, and as we get into sunday afternoon i should say, its going to feel even worse
