A viewing for the corrections officer killed last week during that hostage siege at a delaware prison will be held tonight on the campus of delaware state university. Vaughn Correctional Center in smyrna at halfstaff. More than a week ago lieutenant floyd was killed after inmates took the lieutenant and three others hostage. This weekend the life of lieutenant floyd will be celebrated at delaware state university. Of the the school is hosting the funeral services. While friends and family gathered to remember lieutenant floyd, theres been an intense and Ongoing Investigation to figure out how exactly the inmates were able to carry out the attack. It happened in the prison section c. An autopsy completed by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science has determined floyds death to be a homicide by trauma. Floyd was the lone corrections officer killed. Since his passing, floyds family has been presented with the Delaware Department of corrections highest honor the medal of valor. It was during that ceremony that floyd was also promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. Lieutenant floyd was 47 years old. The viewing here goes until 9 oclock tonight. At least four people were hurt in a twocar crash in north philadelphia this morning. Chopper6 hd was over the scene near front and venango where two cars collided just before 11 00. We know at least one person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Police have not said how bad the injuries were. A south Jersey College student who sued her estranged parents for College Tuition has lost her court battle. Action news Investigative Reporter Wendy Saltzman first reported on the battle between Caitlin Richie and her divorced parents. Initially a judge ruled in favor of richie to force the parents to pay 16,000 for her tuition at temple. In december 20s 14, Maura Mcgarvey and Matthew Richie appealed that decision to a higher court. Today the appeals judge ruled in their favor. It isnt every day that a grandmother gets to deliver her own grandchild but thats what happened today on the way to the hospital in gloucester county. Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and the Organization Give Something Back presented a half Million Dollars to West Chester University today to fund 25 full scholarships. Students who take part in the ed Snider Youth Hockey Program are eligible for those scholarships. Students from the Quaker School at horsham hit the ice in warminster today for good time but also a good cause. With each lap the youngsters are earning money to help children living in a South African orphanage. Students at the Quaker Schoolwork to overcome learning disabilities. Organizers say this event teaches them that they have the ability to help others. They are called the young gentlemen and today they took their pledge top lead responsible and productive lives. The young gentlemens program through the Community Alliance for progressive positive action was designed to inspire atrisk youth. Some of these are my friends. Some of them are from other schools. And its nice to know that i got other kids just like me who want to who have the same goals. I want to get into a good college and i think that the ygs will help me get into one. Reporter through music and performing arts the idea is to instill self confidence build self worth and learn techniques to overcome obstacles. Young gentlemen you can get respect from other people even bad people. Alternative to the things that that are out there in the street but to get them to be above the street and to get them to really be able to find their way. We are young gentlemen. Reporter mayor kenney showed his support leading the yg pledge for this new crop of young gentlemen from that Thurgood Marshall Robert Morris and William Rowan elementary schools. I think what they need to know at that beautiful impressionable age is that there is hope, that we can if we make the effort be successful and that there are adults in the community who think positively about them. Reporter this program started about a decade ago in williamsport. It now exists in three philadelphia public schools. The hope is that with efforts like this psa that they will expand.
